Trey is such a humble guy. I like how Brian touched on him coming out of his shell over the years. I always wondered if that was just the limited spotlight Trey was given or if that was an accurate representation. I also forgot how young he is... He's got a WSM title in his future, and likely an ASMC title if he keeps progressing. I dont think we've even seen a glimpse of what his max potential looks like yet. And that's TERRIFYING to think about as an Open competitor myself. LOL

Brian’s gettin really good at this. He knows how to naturally keep the conversation going with guys who may not have a lot of experience speaking on podcasts and keeps it interesting. Good luck to you both this year! Also, good on you Trey for chasing what you wanted. I’m older now, but looking back my parents instilled limiting beliefs in me too as a child with stuff they didn’t understand. Is what it is, but everyone definitely chase your dreams. You only need to prove it to yourself

Brian Shaw has always been a favorite for me in Strongman. I use to watch WSM with Magnus and then Phil Phister and Derek Poundstone and Žydrūnas Savickas. Trey has a good old school approach with not having grown up with much of a approach other then just lifting without a lot of professional training or knowledge. That shows natural strength as well. Great to get to know his background having not knowing much about him until this You Tube video and Brian’s podcast. Thanks this was a fun episode. Hope Brian wins and Trey does top 3. Also Luke and present strongman Tom Stoltman. Love for Luke to get top 3 he’s getting more towards Shaw’s age.

Trey is a great strongman right now. Hard to imagine him being up there with Brian and Big Z. Similar to Mateusz in that they have a glaring weakness In which they could finish last in an event. Mateusz deadlift and Treys grip. I hope Trey can at least be mid pack in grip events, but you don’t see guys make up that much ground in grip very often. So easy to overtrain grip.

Brian I hope you take a 5th title, I know Big Z was great, but I feel you're nearly as good as deadlifter, and yes Z was unrivaled overhead ... But you have always been in the mix for second, and Big Z was only decent in the moving events, and throwing, frankly the only one possibly able to compete with you is obie and Thor but I don't think either of them would claim to be a better thrower than you. Between your variety of objects, weights, and heights I think are basically unmatched. Basically I think you have the most area under the curve so to speak in being a week rounded capable strongman. If you have a bad event it's usually due to an injury that either didn't heal right, or recently occured, or you just knew how well you needed to place, and did just enough to manage it.

What sort of training style is recommended for training grip? Is it better to do heavier weights with 20-30 second holds. Or 10-15 second holds? Or 60+ second holds. Not sure which has the best carry over
@allylilith5605
@allylilith5605 Жыл бұрын
probably 60+ secs or at least close to that. they are small endurance muscles which respond a lot more to constant middle load than short max out power, unlike other muscles. think of an old farmers / blacksmith's hand and how they built it for confirmation

I hate the stone off in qualifiers. It's so grueling and depending on group composition, if you aren't first, there could be very little motivation to try in the qualifiers, you just do enough to beat the two worst competitors reliably, and then save everything for the stone off ... And personally I don't think the stone off is a fun or interesting thing to watch. At least put on a spectacle for the crowd with fingle finger off, like an 800 lb finger til the other can't match you. Or you could do a rising bar deadlift on 3 attempts, with an exception for unlimited attempts, if it would be a world record.
@trevorrisley5419
@trevorrisley5419 Жыл бұрын
The stone-off is a God-awful tie-breaker. Every athlete hates it and it’s not even visually stimulating. Anything would be better than this. Hell, I’d much rather see a bench press off and a sumo deadlift ladder than a damned stone-off.

Shaw Classic is a Brutal show, I know the Arnold advertises being the heaviest show on earth ... But they had to abandon that and go with more dynamic events, as their are so many fewer 400+ lbs behemoths vs back in the day with obie, terry, you Thor big Z, Eddie, and some high 300's, like Travis ortmyer, phister, Mike Burke, and a guy not z from Lithuania who for a few years showed up and was right around 400+/- 20 ish lbs. The sport is going smaller these days and personally I hate it as a spectator, as a fan who also cares about the athletes and their ability to live life after strong man and not die excessively early, I do like the move towards more movement events. But I do think it's worse to watch most the time, I like watching worlds strongest man, not world's fastest mover of a fridge. So I do like for the sport to lean towards putting on a show, like throwing, fingle fingers, whippy deadlifts maybe from more like a 12 inch pull rather than a puesdo rack pull, I think Brian has some like 70lb 24-30" plates from rogue, personally I think using those rubberized 70's on an elephant bar would be an amazing show for the crowd. Since they look like normal sized weights from a long distance, but then you put a normal plate next to them and you're like holy crap. That would be a way to standardize a big deadlift for people to train that is still something to put on a show, rather than practice on a powerlifting bar with powerlifting plates, and then showing up pulling 4 inches higher and on a whippier bar, without gyms needing the cartoon sized tanks on the ends of the bars, and they could likely find a leg press to that fits 70's and that would be a natural place for normal people to regularly use them. Since I think a lot of gym goers would regularly want to warm up with 1,2,3, and 4 of those a side then make smaller jumps from there. 140, 280, 420, 560+ the sled, and I think it would be more reasonable to accommodate people like you, who thinks 600 on a leg press is probably the amount of weight the sled alone should be.
@bobbybobman3073
@bobbybobman3073 Жыл бұрын
Conan's wheel personally I don't know why I don't like it, but what I think would be cool is if you guys did more inch dumbbell snatches. I think strapless inch dumb snatches for reps would be a very good final event of a contest, preferably requiring the use of one dumbbell per hand and simultaneous lifting.
