Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi presents an important and enlightening talk based on his new book, "Refuting ISIS." The book details how ISIS bases its ideology on a superficial and literalist approach to the sacred texts of Islam; and concludes that ISIS does not represent Islam, that its declaration of a caliphate is invalid, and that opposing ISIS is an obligation upon Muslims.

This brilliant speech from this distinguished and highly respected Sheik, Sheik Mohammed al-Yaqoubi, deserves many more views! As a Moroccan myself, I can think of few Islamic scholars more studied in the Koran than Sheik Mohammed, and I hope he will continue to give such insights into the Koran for a very long time!

May Allah protect our Shaykh Muhammad. I was wondering what ethnicity he is. I know he's from Syria, but he doesn't really look like an arab to me, that's why I'm curious to know.

Around 37.45 mins the shaikh makes a claim about ISIS making takfir, at 38 mins he then talks for 1 min 45 secs about his book, at 40 mins then skips the subject to talk about Osama bin Laden? I might be a layman but I dont find his refutation at least until this point convincing to say the least.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: (The Prophet) said, "O Allah! Bless our Sham and our yemen." People said, "Our Najd as well." The Prophet again said, "O Allah! Bless our Sham and yemen." They said again, "Our Najd as well." On that the Prophet said, "There will appear earthquakes and afflictions, and from there will come out the side of the head of Satan." (Book #17, Hadith #147, Bukhari) ibn Abdul Wahab LA is the horn of the horns of satan.

@@ibrahimsiali2419 You may apply it to the Saudi government who brought music concerts, the US army and many other fitan in the Arabian Peninsula....wa Allahu A'lam. BUT certainly not to Islamic scholars who taught Tawhid, adhered strictly to Qur'an & Sunnah and rebuked the Shirk of the Sufis and other graveworshippers whom fitna became prevalent in their era.

@@chrisconnor7934 You should produce evidence that _all_ Sufis practice shirk and that they worship graves. The closest you'll get is that some are of the opinion that there are saints, and that intercession via them is permissible. This was a view defended most prominently by Hanbali, and to a lesser extent, Maliki scholars. Proponents say it is similar to hadiths that encourage seeking the dua of one's mother, for Paradise is beneath their feet. This is the basis of intercession, among others, such as making salawat to Nabi Muhammad (ﷺ) which is in turn returned tenfold. I don't agree with this, but the justification itself was accepted by various scholars. There's also the separate but similar issue of visiting graves without intercession. Besides this, I have heard of no member of any Sufi tariqa, or those who engage in tasawuff or tazkiyah themselves, that have called these practices 'grave-worship'. Obviously, because it isn't. Where is it in the literature? That some Sufi made dua to Allah, and then the same dua to some grave? It simply doesn't exist.

@@ibrahimsiali2419 Sufis are known for visiting graves and asking intercession to the inhabitants of the graves to reach Allah. The speaker in the video himself believes that asking du'a directly to Allah is inappropriate, and that it should be done with an intermediary. To ask Allah to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ) is obviously allowed. It is not a scholarly opinion. The Prophet (ﷺ) said it. Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) has reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever sends Salat upon me, Allah sends Salat upon him ten times." [REFERENCE: Jami' At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Book 3, Hadith 485] [GRADE: Sahih (authentic)] To ask Allah to forgive the people inside the graves is obviously allowed. Muhammad b. Qais (radiAllahu anhu) has reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: (...) He (Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi' (to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray FOR them (How should I beg forgiveness FOR them)? He said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, Allah willing, join you." [REFERENCE: Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 2127] BUT it is NOT allowed to ask the dead person for things like: "Ya Mawlana [in the grave], give me this and that." Or "Ya Mawlana [in the grave], ask Allah for me to give me this and that." The latter case is Shirk. Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim: 3. Surely, the religion [i.e. the worship and the obedience] is for Allah only. And those who take Auliya' [protectors and helpers] besides Him [say]: "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allah." Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever. [Qur'an, 39:3]
