I already commented this, but I feel like it applies here: That has got to be a super cheap mattress. Only like, one cm of cushion before some kind of material that his full weight on one foot hardly indented at all, it seems like he probably bought it just for this prank. My question is, what did he do with their actual mattress?

From his perspective he thought she was going to get up and leave for a while meaning he'd have to wait longer but she was really getting up to scoot further up the bed. If he knew that he would have waited until she sat on him which would have been a way better scare
