Me neither. I remember coming home from school and having my grandma tell me the news. I was still in second grade. I remember telling my grandma "She's not dead! Look, she's in the TV!" and having my granny explain death to me. Her death was so tragic that even in a small town in Panamá caused a whole wave of sadness.

Everyone saying “she would’ve been the next (insert singer)”. I get what y’all are saying. We can all agree that she never got to reach her full potential due to her passing but let’s be real. She has reached legendary status without even reaching her full potential & it’s not due to her death either. While yes her death boosted her fame but the fame she reached has stuck with her for the last 25 years now. That’s unheard of unless you carry the talent to captivate people’s attention. That’s very hard to do even more now a days where we live in a world where we only watch 7 second videos and Selena has been breaking records still. Reaching milestones in our modern world with music streaming sites that she herself wouldn’t have even imagined. We shouldn’t be comparing her to other entertainers. She’s NOT the Mexican Madonna, not the Beyoncé of Hispanics, not the Michael Jackson of Latin music etc. She is Grammy award winning artist and 7x Diamond Record selling legendary artist *S E L E N A* She is a music legend and we should be treating her as such. It amazes me how some people still treat her like she’s brand new..

When people compare her to other top artists, they're merely suggesting that her iconic talent and status as an entertainer is on par with them. They're NOT suggesting that she was in any way a clone of something they'd already accomplished or what they were doing. We all know she was a unique artist and in a category all her own. NO female entertainer (let alone latino female entertainer) today or EVER will be as talented as Selena (my opinion). She had vocal, dance, fashion, looks, southern upbringing and personality..EVERYTHING. I mean, I love Beyonce and all, but Selena held her own in a concert WITHOUT all the smoke, lights, and dancers behind her. She didn't need them... HOWEVER, could you imagine if she DID have a budget like that at her disposal? 🤔... biiiitch 😱😎

The fact that people still don't know that 1. Selena's native language was English, she actually did not learn Spanish until she was very well known in Latin America, and she had to due to interviews and her fans. 2. She was a huge Donna Summer fan and she loved disco music hence why she did a disco medley 3. She is very beloved not only in the USA but worldwide. 4. She is the first bicultural icon from the Latino community in spite of the fact that she could not speak Spanish, we are not very accepting of that in Latin America but she was the exception, she was embraced and loved, but still, a third-generation USA citizen born and raised in Texas, so she has both cultural influences. Look for interviews of her in English, she had the cutest southern accent.

As a proud Houstonian, I want to share this for those who don’t know. This Concert was during The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which used to be held in the Astrodome before this great monument closed its doors for good. Now, it is held at Reliant Stadium. The Rodeo and Livestock Show is a 6 week event. Starts in Feb. and ends in Mar. Each night it features an Artist. It is huge to be booked for this event. For Selena, it meant she finally made it! 60,000 seats sold out. George Strait got his start on this stage (Amarillo by morning video). I’m not sure what night this was filmed...but as a season ticket holder, I saw all the concerts and she was spectacular! She died on March 31st. Thanks.

Dancing...hard, singing live, breath control. That is a Pro! She was also so grounded, no ego all...check out her index finger, she had a broken nail and didn’t bother to have it fixed. lol. So many like (cannot speak spanish) me owned her CD’s because her brother Abe (keyboardist) wrote, composed and produced her music. Introducing the electric guitar and keyboards changed the sound from tradition Tejano music. Her music was just damn good to listen to.

To this day, I still cannot listen to the original versions of any of the songs in this medley without thinking of Selena, and how she knocked them out of the park. And I was born in the 70s, loved me some disco and still do, but Selena only made them better. To the point I prefer listening to this medley rather than the originals. She was a gem, a true talent, and still sorely missed. Amor Prohibido is still my favorite song of hers, even if I don’t speak a word of Spanish lol The feel of her music and her voice was what transmitted the emotions of her songs to me. Like, do you have to understand the words to Bidi Bidi Bom Bom to get up and dance and feel good? ❤️

That was really cool that Selena got to break through the english speakers at least. Many people know her from her English songs then learned that she started off singing Spanish. She's remarkable, I wish her life wasn't cut short. Us Mexican Americans have a curse it seems like. Richie Valens, Selena, SPM. Every time one starts getting to be up there, they get taken down.

Selena Y Los Dinos started off performing English songs til the father taught them Spanish. Hard to believe that the parents were fluent in Spanish but the kids weren't. SELENA, her husband Chris, and her sis Suzette struggled in speaking fluent Spanish but SELENA was a quick learner even though there were a few bumps here and there lol. Idk about the brother A.B. whether he was already speaking it since growing up. SELENA worked hard and waited patiently in crossing over to performing an English Album as a crossover Artist. It was like an Apple dangling in front of her and just when she was about to grasp it...Such a shame. But her Album did manage to cross over though so I guess we must be thankful for this even if she didn't get to complete it.

Thank you for your review of Selena, I agree with you wholeheartedly! I was working when I decided to listen to Selena's concerts and found this video. I basically stopped working because I was mesmerized by her amazing voice, and then her performance WOW her dancing, she floats across the stage! I could not take my eyes off of her! Her live performances are soo much better than her amazing recorded songs, which are incredible. But live, she cannot be beat. She blows away any other female singer I have EVER seen. There are some very beautiful women with great voices who are rich and famous, but NOT ONE of them can hold a candle to Selena Quintanilla! And on top of all of her God given talent and beauty, she is so personable, so sweet and friendly and REAL! Sorry to go on and on, but she will always be missed. She and her husband were married 2 months before my wife and I, and like us, they would have recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary. I always wonder what she would be like now, probably perfect!😥

@@midnyteblues hold up why the comparisons? The music market is big enough for different female artist. I'm a blk woman I love Selena and the representation she brings to her heritage and people around the world. Everytime I come to the comments ppl trying to throw shade on our blk Queen beyonce. That's disgusting and a disgrace to her memory and what she stood for. You see she loved disco black artist.

@@nynurse29 First off, race has nothing to do with it. Second, I never have liked Beyonce. Sort of like the Kardashians and always being thrown in our face. Do I like a few lyrics in some of her songs, yes, but my taste in music is vast and hers is not a voice I can tolerate for more than one song. While others I can listen to all day such as Al Green and Annie Lennox.
