He is the most wonderful bird! Too bad he can't have a family, but the logistics are huge, eh? You'd almost have to hand raise a female and keep them apart unless it's breeding season.

I just want you guys to know what an inspiration you are to me. I live in southeastern Colorado, the dry plains! Watching you and how you interact with your animals makes me go out in the 29 degree windy weather and talk to my horses and hens! Oh and can't forget CC aka Coop Cat. His momma left him and his brother under our coop camper. They would come in through the chain link. Well his brother Loki, lives with my son now. CC is now officially too big to go through the chain link. But the girls, hens, love him. Many many times I've gone in and one of them are cuddling with him. But anyway thank you for taking me along on your journey. God bless you all and your farm!

It appears your place is located on a natural spring. Creative use of french drains will help. You might be able to drive a drainpipe horizontally in the hillside back of your house and water your entire place year-round.

Loving this redo! Was wondering if y'all could just follow the drain areas with a built up dry/drain creek over them. The goats have some rocks for their hooves and the drain field path could be used and still navigated through their yards. Just following up on an idea for rocks with goats don't recollect where I got it from, lol.

😉😉. Such a relaxing day spent with y’all and love hearing all your plans. Future rains will tell if recent work will help your drainage problem and what more needs to be done. Not realize all of that was swamp land. We had drainage problems after a big earthquake years back had ripped and gouged into our area even knocking down retaining walls. Finally when remodeling exterior and building a studio a landscape architect suggested laying in LARGE pipes all over giving us drainage for all the water to flow into the creek. Brought in all kinds of river rock and soil to firm it up and for that first year just kept building it up until rock hard. We don’t have the rain you do but those pipes have helped after he came on a rainy few days to see the real flow to fix. Earthquakes can really open up the land and scary when buildings involved and never know which way it will go. LOVE LOVE that garden popping out of that black gold. Definitely a picture worth hanging. So many places that looks like an artist is creating his masterpiece. Y’all have really planned things out. I never tire following the work you do to all the animals and make them comfortable and keep making your home place more beautiful ❤️❤️😘❤️😘❤️

Will willow trees work on the bank? They're really good soil stabilisers for banks. Bamboo is another. We have a wetland area (in the wet) and had an environmental officer take a look at our property. We were looking for advice on retaining walls and stabilising the slopes. He told us that wherever you have hard-scape (rocks) you need to incorporate soft-scape (plants) to defuse the velocity out of the water, when it comes to flash flooding events. Because the rocks will create velocity, with faster and more erratic water - where as the plants absorb the velocity out of the water. He recommended reeds, bulrushes and lilly grasses, like Dianella. I reckon even a mulberry tree would do well near the creek, and has soil stabilising roots too.

You might consider planting some tropical looking things with big wide leaves around your watery drain and maybe even above it by the road. Things like Bananas ginger, Canna Lillys and maybe even plantain. (I'm in zone 8 and can grow all of those. All of those things would be great fodder for your animals too. they would die back in the winter but in the spring when you are getting rained out they will make a soil matrix that will catch a lot of that water and keep your soil in place and they are easy to split and propagate by root cuttings.
