Cyndi is rebelling against the idea that women should speak quietly, dress modestly, and live bland lives. She wants excitement, wild clothes, and big adventures.

Yeah. Young women are taught to live lives of obligation, modesty, and respectability way before young men are given that kind of pressure. Dudes usually only hear that shit after they get married or have kids. Women hear it way earlier in girlhood. They aren't allowed to make mistakes, to act out, or to have wild and debauched evenings. Cyndi is speaking out against that, and on another level, she's also representing for her sister who was a lesbian and wasn't allowed to be herself at all.

I was a teenage boy in the 80s. To me, this song simply meant that girls are entitled to let loose and enjoy life. They should be permitted to do so without inhibition. Girls loved this empowering message and Boys loved that the girls felt empowered. How they chose/choose to have fun was/is irrelevant.

the guy who plays her dad is "Capt Lou Albano", an old school wrestler and manager in the WWF of the 80's, so thats why she did a wrestling move on him. at he time this song was made, girls were expected to be good and stay at home, and noone batted an eye at boys doing whatever, so this was a sort of protest/rebellion anthem song for girls.

Cyndi is beyond talented!! I've met her and seen her live 4 times. She's amazing. Plays so many instruments, is welcoming to all musicians. One of the shows I saw, she had a small local band opening. As an encore she called them back out and they all just jammed for an hour or so. It was so great. Writes and produces all of her own stuff. I am in awe of her. Please look at some more of her stuff, and not just her 80s hits. 😎

She didn't saying nothing about 'getting with all types of dudes'. She's just gossiping in the phone with her multi-ethnic squad, dancing around, and putting on crazy outfits. And they probably ordered a pizza at some point. And they maybe did some chillin' with cool gay dudes, have a few drinks down at the gay bar, watch some drag performances and tear it up on the dance floor without worrying about getting groped by some asshole. That's how girls like that have fun.

Well, being from that generation I can say with certainty she was talking about ALL OF IT. Women being able to have fun in whatever way they chose without being judged by men and society. Whether it be having a girls night, chillin with gay dudes at drag performance (as you proposed) or even having a little fun in the bedroom with whoever they please. It’s about treating women as equal human beings, in all ways. To end slut shaming and inequality in life. That women weren’t just put on this earth to be virgins until they’re married and then become mothers. It’s about leaving us the hell alone in whatever we chose to do in our lives. She just did it in a positive way with a catchy tune. She’s always been a proud feminist & activist 💪❤️

In the 80s, as we teenage we would talk for hours on the phone with that young mind topics. This was all before the internet. This is how we connected. And we would just get together to just chill. We didnt shop online because we went to the mall. Go to the city and sightsee, hang out on the steps outside & etc. It is just having fun with the girls going to the mall & shopping, looking at the boys, listening to music, and just chilling. She has a song called True Colors that she wrote for a friend that died from aids. That song brought about the rainbow symbol for the gay community that you see today. Beautiful song beautifully done. She always had fun, boppish type music and I didn't really appreciate her music back in the 80's until her song True Colors which became one of her biggest hits. I love ❤️ that you started this year with Cyndi Lauper! Big influence on expressing girl power for GenX girls. While some girls wanted to hooch it up like Madonna... Cyndi made it possible for us awkward girls to be carefree, wild and creative! I was pick my freshman year to paint a mural of her on my High School cafeteria wall. Thanks Cyndi🥰

I first discovered Cyndi when she was part of a Rockabilly band called Blue Angel. Her voice was so unique, I couldn't get enough. She later went on to have recurring roles in tv shows like Bones. She opened a home in NYC for troubled gay and trans teens. She wrote the score to a Broadway show called Kinky Boots, and she now does a commercial for an Eczema medication (can't remember the name). You should try her version of the Etta James classic "At Last" ..... she was extremely popular but underrated by the masses as a vocalist. Fun reaction. 💜

This came out when I was in high school. And it seemed that every high school girl wanted to be Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Cindy Crawford, or Pat Benatar. Or, in the case of me, I was Allison's character from The Breakfast Club, yup, I was the weird girl in high school. The girls who just wanted to have fun dressed like Cyndi Lauper, the slutty girls dressed like Madonna, the fashionable yet sophisticated types dressed like Cindy Crawford, and the rocker/dangerous types dressed like Pat Benatar. There really was only one Pat Benatar type girl in my high school, and she was famous for setting the lockers on fire.

I always loved this vid as a kid because Capt Lou (her dad in this) actually lived in my neighborhood during the height of his fame in WWF, and he was the sweetest, kindest, most gentle man and whenever I’d see him be a big, mean guy on tv I thought it was funny that ANYONE could believe he was scary lol Definition of a giant teddy bear and sooooo kind to kids
