The Doors were around for four years (in terms of recordings) and just cranked out so many great songs. Jim was a genius but so were Ray, Robby, and John. And that bass? That's Ray Manzarek using a keyboard to play the "bass" with (IIRC) his left hand on a keyboard while his right hand plays the keyboard.

I was born in 77, after Jim was already gone, but I’ve been absolutely obsessed with this band my entire life! Many already told you what a back door man is, but I also want to mention the little girl part… it’s just a phrase that didn’t age well; it simply meant young woman. As for songs, you haven’t done their most popular yet, Light My Fire. It’s a must! I also love Crystal Ship, LA Woman, When the Music’s Over and Spanish Caravan. I can’t wait to see you react to more!

You’re right Amber, Jim is “creeping” in the back door while the little girls (woman’s) man is going out the front door to work. This might freak y’all out but there is no bass player in The Doors. The “bass” is played by Ray Manzarik on his smaller organ with his left hand while he also plays the regular organ with his right hand. They did use studio bass players occasionally on certain songs, but most of their songs have Ray playing the bass notes with his left hand. They liked that they were a band set up differently than most bands. That’s why their music is so unique and wonderful.

The Doors were one of my faves (I’m 73). 4 guys, keyboards playing melody with one hand and bass with the other, drummer, guitar player, and singer. Saw them in Baltimore in around 1970 or so. Just 4 guys on stage playing music. Still my favorite concert of all.

In 1969, after their ibfamconcert in Miami, the Doorscwere sidelined from touring and facing numerous legal problems. There is a performance you should take note of on public television of the group playing THE SOFT PARADE. Jim Morrison is in rare form, bearded, and prowling the soundstage like a marauding lion and bringing real heat to the song. The rest of the band is on full tilt as well. I guarantee, you will absolutely love this. From this stage forward, the Doors are a blues band with a few psychedelic hits. Prime examples come their last studio album, L A. Woman. THE CHANGLING, THE CARS HISS BY MY WINDOW, BEEN DOWN SO LONG, and of course, the title track L A. Woman. You've listened to the beginning and middle of their history. It's time to react to the end. Enjoy

This was The Door's rock version of a classic old Blues song, going back to the 1920's and probably even before that. The Allman Brothers did their own song, "Cause There's a Man Down There, Might Be Your Man" with the same subject matter of the cheating extra guy on the side sneaking in and out of her back door that you have already listened to, I believe. You listen to such great stuff, so many artists I've recommended that you love. I DO hope you check out Maria McKee and Lone Justice, "East of Eden" and all the other tracks on their debut album!

Back Door Man surprised you don't know the term. Yes, the back door man was the guy sneakin' in the back when the husband or boyfriend was gone. It's an old classic Blues tune written by Willie Dixon and first recorded by Howlin' Wolf. Also you talked about the bass a lot do you know the Doors didn't have a bass player in the group. Ray Manzarek the keyboard player and co-founder of the band with Jim Morrison played all the bass parts on a keyboard when they played live. In the studio their producer said the bass wasn't punchy enough so when recording they used a bass player who doubled the same bass parts Ray Manzarek played on keyboard. I got to see the Doors a couple times back in the day, they were great live Jim Morrison was a spell binding front man for the group.

Back door as a reference to cheating. Husband’s leaving out the front door to go to work and dude’s creeping in through the back door so no one sees him. Here’s Aerosmith’s “Rag Doll” which has a similar line: “Rag Doll living in a movie Hot tramp Daddy's little cutie You're so fine they'll never see you leaving by the back door, man” Similar thing in a show with Aidy Bryant (don’t recall the name) where the guy she was sleeping with made her leave out the back door so his roommates didn’t see that he was sleeping with a bbw.

Another great song with bass is Texas Radio and the Big Beat. You also have to checkout Moonlight Drive ....the 1st song Jim wrote and Robbie's slide guitar is haunting.

I love the fact that Ray laid down the killer bass lines on this and other The Doors' tracks with his left hand on a bass keyboard while playing organ with his right hand.

A back door man is your gals side piece, who either comes in through the back door when you leave your house or goes out the back door when you come home.

This was the Doors' first single although many think it was Light My Fire, which really was huge and put them on the map. If you haven't heard L.A. Woman, that should be your next one by them. It was the last song recorded by Morrison and he seemed to put everything he had into it.

There's a great book from 1980 featuring Jim getting caught by his girlfriend while he was busy doing this song to another girl. That was a rough 12 months when the 27 club got crowded.

First song, first album. So this was the way the Doors introduced themselves, and a statement of intent.

Jim Morrison was a great singer & could work the stage. He was a rebel, loved by all his fans, hated by leaders…they didn’t like the hippy scene & the anti war protesters. Jim didn’t care what they thought, unfortunately the Florida officials wanted him arrested for nudity. This is when he split to London, England. We never saw him again, sadly.😪 Thank you for playing his music!👍👏👏👏♥️♥️🌹

One of their best known songs, is still a staple of classic rock radio and/or streams. For a deep cut that is a classic, try Crystal Ship or Moonlight Drive, both great Doors, very atmospheric. Enjoy! 🎵🎹🎤🎸🎶

I love seeing the old album covers. I had this one when I was in college. My favorite song of theirs was Light zmy Fire. You have to read the story about when they were on the Ed Sullivan show. A producer wanted them to change the words to make them less controversial. They agreed but then sang it the way they wanted. They were told they'd never be on the show again. They didn't care--they had done the show. The Ed Sullivan Show was the show that all the groups wanted to be on. The Beatles' first show in the USA was on that show.

I was obsessed with the Doors in high school. I had most of their albums and memorized many of their songs. The biography of Jim Morrison called No One Here Gets out Alive is an AMAZING read! Love your reaction!!
