I married my wife June 8, 1974 . TODAY is our 49th anniversary. We got married 3 Days after I got home from Viet Nam. We immediately got in our newly purchased 1969 Ford 500 for $900.00 and drove from our childhood homes in NYC across the country to San Fransico. No dog yet...😊. We never did settle in one place. Always picking up and moving around the country. We have moved around and been through every state in the USA and much of Canada and Mexico. Just traveling , working, and enjoying life. We are both 70 and recently settled and bought a farm house, have a big garden , two wonderful sons, their wives and our grandson. Would not change one minute.

I got married in 1971 so I can totally relate to this song. We both had jobs, though (I worked for an airline, he was a cop). I had travel benefits & he had a Harley so we were able to travel pretty much anywhere, anytime. It was as wonderful as you are imagining it. We're both retired now, but he still has a Harley & I still have my travel benefits! Life is still an adventure ... just takes a lot more planning than back in our carefree days. 🥰

To Rob, the context to this song has a lot to do with the era in which it was made. The hippie, free-love movement along with Woodstock was fresh in the countries conscience even though it was beginning to fade. So, a song about living poor but happy was a confirmation of the times. Love how you two jump off the screen and provoke me and others to smile in such a folksy, welcome and accepting way in your presence.

This song kind of reminds me of a soft rock version of “Sloop John B”. 1970-1975 was a mixed bag of music: bubblegum pop, early funk, glam rock, singer-songwriter acoustic guitar songs, early metal which later would be considered hard rock, novelty hits, and love songs. This song fits in with those times. It has a relaxing, summer vibe to it.

I met Mrs. Rick on the tarmac at Kadena AFB Okinawa Japan in Sept. 1973 late at night. She was one of the first military women assigned to the Island after the DOD changed the regulations to allow them to serve there. I was a young sailor, and we were saying goodbye to a friend from our Bible study. She had just gotten off the plane and was walking towards the terminal with several other Navy women. We stopped them and asked them if they were going to our base. We helped get their luggage and arranged transportation with the duty officer for them. Five months later I beat the odds of about 10,000 men for every woman, and we were the second Navy couple to get married on the Island. We would have been first but she dislocated her knee and didn't want to walk the aisle in a leg cast. We'll be celebrating our 50th in seven months.

Lobo recalls: "I was working on several songs, including a tune about traveling around the country with this girl, and I was trying to rhyme 'you and me.' Now 'me and you' would have been easier, but I was trying to do it with proper grammar. I couldn’t find anything to rhyme that fit what I wanted to say in the song. Finally, after I got back home to Florida, I decided to turn the phrase around to 'me and you.' I was thinking about it, sitting in a room that had a big sliding glass door overlooking the back yard. My big German Shepherd dog: Boo, came running around the corner and looked in at me. I said: 'Well, now, that’s kinda freaky. How about putting 'a dog named Boo’ into the song?” That’s literally how it came about. All of a sudden the song really started coming together. I hadn’t been to any of the places mentioned in the song except Georgia, but I just kept putting in places that sounded far away like Minneapolis and L.A.

This is a sweet love song, singing of contentment in being together. I also think it’s a bit of a love song to the US - travelling around the beautiful country, having pleasant experiences. It sure reflects the easygoing life of my childhood and early teen years, growing up in the 70’s.

I'm so glad you reacted to this! This is one of my and my wife theme songs. She nicknamed our beloved dog Otto "Boo" without ever having heard this song. The first time I played it for her, she was over the moon - we have always love road trips, and we logged many many miles as me and her and a dog named Boo. Sadly, we lost our beloved Boo last year to cancer - he was gone way too young, just a month shy of his eighth birthday. But that's enough sadness - you should really check out our other theme song, which is really more like our mission statement set to music: the late great hilarious Roger Miller, "You Can't Rollerskate In A Buffalo Herd" - but you can be happy if you've a mind to!

This came out the year I was born, but remember hearing on the radio in the 1970's. I was young

As has been stated - "I'd Love You To Want Me," and "Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend" are great in their own right. The former spent 2 weeks at #2 in late 1972. The latter also was a Top10 hit several months later. "Me And You... was a Top 5 hit in 1971.

One of my favorites from what is still my favorite year for music 1971. I was 10 and we were constantly playing this single. Great vibe. Check out I'd Love You To Want Me next.

I fell in love in the 1970s. Love was special. We used to go parking on lovers lane and listen to the radio and talk for hours. I married and stayed married for 40 years, and he died. I eventually got over the grief and ran into my first love in the 7th grade, and now we are married.

You have a knack of reacting to music that so many of us of a certain age automatically sing along to as if it was instinct! Amber gets it right about the feel of the seventies.

I wish this was still possible. I was way too young to do this when the song came out but there’s so much nostalgia tied up in it. It’s not even close to Country Roads but it gives me the same laid back, happy hippie feel.

This wonderful song is very special to me. At the time of the release my family and I had a boxer named Babe whose nickname was Boo. I’ve always felt like this was about my family and I.

Such a classic. I remember this song and as a kid it was a great 'sing along' song. I use it today as a cool-down song for spin classes :)

My dad nicknamed me "Boo" because of this song. Nice memories for me, although we never did travel or live off the land.
