I've been lucky enough to see Ozzy with most of his guitarists (not Brad Willis). And there's one true fact bundy can deny, NOBODY but Jake E. Lee can play SHOT IN THE DARK, Zakk can't, it's a masterpiece, but I don't think even Randy could have duplicated it had he lived. Too many unique things. Jake IS criminally underrated.

One thing that’s kind of crazy is if you think about the big three for Ozzy’s band: Randy Roads Jake E. Lee Zakk Wylde You can hear all of them playing these riffs. Like during the pre-solo slides Jake is doing in Shot in the Dark, I could totally hear Zakk doing something like that. But maybe not so much in the No Rest For The Wicked era, I’m thinking later on No More Tears. (Arguably some of Zakk’s Best guitar work with Ozzy) It’s odd how they have all filled each other’s shoes so damn well over the years. Some might argue that, and one or the other might not be their favorite, but I think most of us can agree that they all have a similar style and a somewhat interchangeable niche with Ozzy.

Funny story (to me anyway). When this song first came out back in the 80's, a friend of mine was into all the pop, bubble gum groups of that time. There was a dance club we use to hang out at every Sunday. They had a jukebox that played videos. This was one of them. So I made her watch it over and over. Along with "Tears are falling" by KISS. Today, she is a hardcore metal head! Mission accomplished! 🤘😂

Since your friend was a bubble gum pop fan I encourage you to look up the original version of this song--Yes,…this is not the original version of this song! This song was brought to Ozzie by the bass player (Phil Soussan) and reworked as a song for Ozzy. The bass player did this song in his previous band “Wildlife”. Look up “Shot In the Dark” by “Wildlife” on KZfaq.

That is Jake E. Lee on the guitar, sir. He is a master. This was my favorite song for the longest time because of his playing. To play those final notes in his solo, you actually take the pick sideways and hammer it against the neck of the guitar on a particular fret (note) really fast and then just slide your finger up the frets (notes) with the other hand on the same string. It makes a trilling sound like that as it gets higher in the chord progression. Awesomeness.

"Shot in the Dark" was originally composed sometime around 1983 by members of Wildlife, a band featuring Steve Overland, Chris Overland, Simon Kirke of Bad Company, keyboardist Mark Booty, and future Ozzy Osbourne bassist Phil Soussan. Wildlife recorded a demo version of the song that was never officially released. When Soussan joined Ozzy Osbourne's band a couple of years later, he and Osbourne then reworked the song for Ozzy Osbourne's recording and release in early 1986. As a result, there has been much debate over the proper authorship of the song. Although the writing is credited to Soussan and Osbourne, some question whether other members of Wildlife (the Overland brothers, in particular) deserve writing credit for Osbourne's rendition, and what Osbourne's exact role was in the rewriting process. Later releases and omissions Despite the commercial success of "Shot in the Dark", it was notably omitted from various re-releases and further compilations after 2000, widely believed to be the result of the aforementioned authorship issues, along with other legal disputes from Phil Soussan and Bob Daisley,[6] while Osbourne himself has simply stated that he hates the Ultimate Sin album in general.[7] One notable exception to the song's consistent exclusion from compilations is the original 1997 release of The Ozzman Cometh. However, the 2002 re-release of this retrospective featured the track "Miracle Man" replacing "Shot in the Dark". In addition, the song is absent from compilations such as The Essential Ozzy Osbourne, Prince of Darkness, and Memoirs of a Madman. Both the EP Just Say Ozzy, which contains a live version of the song, and the original studio album The Ultimate Sin, were officially deleted from Ozzy's catalog in 2002. The original Ozzy Osbourne un-edited studio recording of "Shot in the Dark" (4:26) appears only on the 1986 single and the original release of The Ultimate Sin album. Later reissues of albums featuring a studio version of "Shot in the Dark" (namely, the 1995 remastered edition of The Ultimate Sin and the original 1997 release of The Ozzman Cometh) have the song edited to a 4:16 version, missing four extra measures of music after the first chorus. The original Wildlife rendition of the song was recorded and released by the Overland brothers' post-Wildlife AOR band FM on their 2012 release Only Foolin EP'.[8] The song was also covered by Finnish melodic rock band Stala & So. on their 2013 album Play Another Round (as bonus track), by Children of Bodom as a bonus track on their 2000 record Follow the Reaper, and by German power metal band Powerwolf on their 2015 album Metallum Nostrum.

Great choice by Ozzy Osbourne featuring Jake E. Lee on guitar!! After the great Randy Rhoads, Jake had a helluva run with Mr. Osbourne. “Killer of Giants”, “Bark at the Moon”, “Rock n’ Roll Rebel”, and “Thank God for the Bomb” were all favorites of mine, but the main attraction was the fantastic “Lightning Strikes”… Play that joint and you’ll stare at your tv like, “What in the hell is going on?!?” Jake destroyed that track… Lee is part-Japanese. Peace to Dweezil Zappa (Frank Zappa’s son) who’s driving the car with the young ladies in “Shot in the Dark”, and a major shout to Randy Castillo, who’s playing the drums phenomenally RIP… There’s a full concert video of including this song, as well… Peace to Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, Quiet Riot, Gus G., Zakk Wylde, Robert Trujillo and, of course, Randy Rhoads!! Ozzy is God, pick any of his songs and it will be good. Great choice, seen him many times, both with Sabbath and Solo, and he always put on quite a show, backed up by legendary musicians. For a great Deep Cut of his, try Killer of Giants. Time for you two to go down the Black Sabbath rabbit hole soon. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶

Jake is amazing. BARK AT THE MOON is next. His structure on that song and solo is amazing. 99% of the players who try to cover it are so off from how it’s truly played that Jake did a tutorial video showing how it’s played

Ozzy's guitar player during this period was Jake E. Lee. A VERY skilled player who's responsible for a slew of killers riffs. After his "Ozzy" gig he went on to form a band called, "Badlands" with a phenomenal vocalist named.....Ray Gillen. Their debut album is absolutely excellent. Check out a track of their's called......"Dreams In The Dark". I saw them live and Ray's voice was amazing. Vocals and guitar work are way up their on the whole album and the songs themselves are really catchy.

This song and “killer of giants” were my introduction to Ozzy. It’s funny looking back on how great and popular it was when Ozzy has said how much he hates it. Not a reflection on the band or performance, it was just to pop for him.

You guys simply must dive in to Ozzy's first 2 albums with Randy Rhoads. Randy was the next Eddie Van Halen and was actually in a rival LA band, Quiet Riot before joining Ozzy. Randy's untimely passing was a tragedy in the music world. He was just getting started. But, he left us 2 studio albums and one live album, posthumously. Check out Crazy Train (from the Tribute video), Mr. Crowley (live Afterhours), I Don't Know, Over the Mountain, Flying High Again and the epic masterpiece, Diary of a Madman. ....oh yeah the guitarist on this video is Jake E. Lee and he is pretty amazing as well!

The guitarist Ozzy had at the time, Jake E Lee, has a great metal style. I think you guys should check out Jake E Lee's post-Ozzy project called Badlands. Their debut self titled album Badlands (1989) was sensational and included such bangers as "Winter's Calling", "Live Wire" and "Rumblin' Train"

One thing Ozzy was good at was finding great musicians to surround himself with. The guitar in this is Jake E Lee. You should check out: "Bark At the Moon" "Rock and Roll Rebel" If you like the guitar in this, then oh boy are you gonna LOVE the genius of the late Randy Rhodes on: "Crazy Train" "Flying High Again" "You Can't Kill Rock & Roll" "Mr. Crowley" Then there's Zakk Wylde on guitar on songs like: "Mama I'm Coming Home" "No More Tears" Tioraidh an-drasta 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In the guitar solo, he does a lot of hammer-ons, legatos and sweeps, among other guitar techniques for lead guitarists. That's how he can move hi fingers so fast. Ozzy has had some amazing guitar players: Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee and Zakk Wyle. Randy Rhoads is and was an inspiration to a new generation of guitar players. Another great song from Ozzy is "You Can't Kill Rock N' Roll"
