I watched She-Ra three times through to put together my feeling and opinions about the show. This is the culmination of all that time and effort, a basic rant on what I like and what I don't. This is entirely opinion based and not an objective or analytical look at the show. Just my feelings on a show I care about.

Frosta makes me eternally salty. I liked her initial introduction, and I was hoping they'd expand more on her struggles with being a ruler so young but they... didn't? They made her a stereotypical energetic kid which seems to go against everything they set her up to be??? It was incredibly disappointing.

When she first appeared I thought the same and they didn't show her much the rest of season 1, then you get the start of season 2 and I was genuinely shocked to see she was a completely different character, I was like: did a couple of months pass and I'm missing something or... wtf

I kind of thought that what they were going for was that the energetic kid was the “real” Frosta and that the tough, cold persona was what she became after being forced to take the throne because no one would listen to her unless she acted this way. But then they never really did anything with it so the character just ended up feeling like she took a 180 turn.

they made the fall of her kingdom seem like not a big deal even though it very much was. I was so concerned when mermista was like "I have decided not to cry about this anymore and move on!" Like what? Girl millions of people died? It wasn't until a post I saw that I realized that nobody died and that everyone was able to evacuate. But if that was the case then they should have made it more clear. Either way, it was her kingdom and it should have been focused on more than just a single episode.

I was lowkey expecting the plot twist of 'childish Frosta' to be that she was acting all along, because she got so used to act like an adult that she just thought "I can be myself around these people, but how do people my age act? I guess I'll just be as obnoxious as possible and see how it goes, children are obnoxious, right?" and THEN have her character development rely on her knowing how to relax and be a kid, but nope, it was a literal 180 and she's now a Toph wannabe...ok.

As much as I like Prime as an end-all villain, he was never "Adora's" enemy. He was to Hordak what Shadow Weaver was to Catra. There was no real history between them, so Prime's rivalry with Adora comes across as bland. Also, can we just think about how dirty the rest of the cast did Entrapta? She tries so hard so be useful to whoever her friends are at the time. Tech was one of the things she was best at, and making things for others was her love language. The heroes never went to retrieve her supposed remains or even double check if she was just injured. Glimmer forbid the others from saving her from Beast Island until the war is over, whenever that may be. Catra manipulated her by prodding at her insecurities to convince her to join the Horde, only to electrocute her and send her to a literal death trap when she got more attention from their boss. The princesses put a fellow princess, a fully grown adult who is their equal, on a leash not once, but twice! And there's never any real apology. Sure, Catra said sorry, but what for? For being a bad friend, for sending her to die, for betraying her, or for lying about her whereabouts to lab partner? I can't help but feel terrible for her...

No they didnt do her dirty. Literally they showed how risky it is to save someone(Even Adora barely saved Glimmer had it not for Catra letting them escaped),the others couldve lost their lives too without the success of retrieving Entrapta..Only Adora knew the way in and out of there so even if they tried to get her immediately,there's no assurance they'd find Entrapta and head out in time. Do you understand that? That would only bring about more damage.. Only Adora is capable of saving her and Glimmer teleporting their way out but even them got almost trapped so what other logical thoughts they shouldve considered at the time? It was also shown that as soon as Bow and Glimmer found out she's alive,they tried to save her but they dont know where to find her(she's not familiar with the place) and were caught up with Catra. Theyve also tried to convince Entrapta to return,but she made her decision to stay with the Horde which Glimmer interpreted as betrayal.(She had a reason to believe it so you cant blame her) If you've just paid attention. They didnt really abandon her. Entrapta couldve just escaped but she didnt. Even Adora was guilty about not being able to save her. Glimmer's reason for not saving Entrapta in beast Island is reasonable.

I had a problem with the whole Catdora thing but I don't talk about it out of risk of being called a homophobe(and anyone who calls me that I will hunt you down and gut you like a fish). My problem is Catras' whole "I love you" thing implies that the literal reason she did all those horrible things between episodes 2 and 40 was because she wasn't able to woman up and just tell the girl she has feelings for that she has those feelings. Plus Hordak isn't that good a villain when you realize his big motivation is trying to prove his worth to big brother prime. Also don't try to figure out Nets and Spinny, I don't think even Noelle knew what to do with them and she voiced one of them.
@gabrxael

My big beef is that Hordak was just as abused and manipulated as Catra, but ended up turning it around to have a fairly healthy relationship with Entrapta, which she clearly felt the same way. Catra on the other hand was such a toxic character. She was supposed to turn it around at the "I love you" point, but that essentially meant that all of their fighting and conflict before meant nothing. I wish they had switched more focus to Hordak, because if they had people would probably have much different views of him.

@@gabrxael Entrapta and Hordak have by far the most healthy romance on the show and it was pulled off without any of the usual cliches like a kiss or an "I love you". You just look at those two together, or even individually when they're thinking about each other, and you can see that their love is deeper than at least 50% of married couples. It's a kind of love that anybody would be lucky to find in their lifetime.

@@gabrxael This! Hordak was supposed to be the big bad up until one point. He was a war criminal, a fascist dictator and killed thousands of people. But the reason I don't hate him as much Catra is because of how he treats the one person who cares about him. He genuinely liked Entrapta, he does nice things for her, he appreciates her help and concern, he protects her. Unlike Catra who abuses everyone, and then complains about how lonely she is.

I would say that comparing any redemption arc to Zuko's us a bit unfair. Though it is interesting that you bring up both Zuko and Azula's arcs from ATLA, because I interpreted Catra's storyline to be more a representation of unhealthy coping mechanisms for abuse as a foil for Adora (similar to Zuko and Azula'srelationship) Catra never had to realize she was on the wrong side like Zuko did, she didn't care about that. Catra needed to learn that love (cheesy as it is) isn't a weakness and she is allowed to show people that she cares for them. It was never meant to be a redemption, she isn't redeemed in the traditional sense at all, but she can finally accept and give affection and acknowledge her emotional needs

The problem with Catra's redemption and her ending up with Adora, isn't necessarily that she did some really bad shit, but that she did them out of spite. If she and Adora were on opposite sides and simply fought for the cause they believed in, this wouldn't be a problem. But Catra handles out of her love/hate feelings toward Adora. Everything she does is motivated by her obsession to beat Adora, and make her pay for leaving her. Now obviously Catra loves Adora, but she has a very unhealthy obsession with her, and these two really should not be together. Like, AT ALL. And I'm really sorry, but the writers shouldn't have made their main gay ship be a toxic relationship. I mean, how is this relationship suppose to survive considering how much Catra tried to hurt and even kill Adora, even trying to destroy the world just to rub Adora's face in it? Could you imagine their first real fight as a couple? And how healthy is it for Catra to be romantically invloved with the person she feels such crippling guilt over for having hurt as much as she has? Catra could end up completely cyphering herself away in this relationship just to atone for what she did. I mean, we want these two to be happy together, but too much hurt has been dealt. And only in the moment, when we see them kiss and confess to eachother, does it give me a happy feeling - as soon as I start actually thinking about it that completely falls apart, and I realize how fucked up it is that these two end up together. Catra deserves redemption, but that's not the same as forgiveness. And it would've been a powerful gesture if Catra did the right thing, atoned for her sins, despite not being forgiven and not being with the one she loves. Heck, just having one person, like for example Glimmer, not forgive Catra would've already been something.
@inichan8786

I am with you on that topic. Specially : There are several routes it can go and none of them are healthy. One be the one where Catra actually feels remorseful and tries to overcompensate her cruelty from the past towards Adora fully breaking down her own boundaries for the sake of redeeming herself, making herself worthy and Adora trying to comfort her which can and probably will bring them back to the circle of Catra feeling inferior and as before might again lash out to her. Then the one where Catra now having her goal falls back into former patterns because: It worked. She has what she wanted and can keep her this way as proven by the kiss and all. Adora can also get a sort of obsession of fixing Catra, which is not too far fetched if we look at how easily she let her back into her life and further. Which would be patronizing someone who should be your equal. The show is a ton of halfbaked never thought through ideas any typical fanfiction writer starter does for their selfindulgent fanfic. Only that people wasted money to get it animated.

Relationships are meant to be worked on do i forgive catra for nearly destroying everything in an attempt for her to sort out her emotions and anger ?no.But i feel like they ,in their relationship, would work towards healing.Catra only saw adora as both friend and lover but now that she has others her love has broadened.Shes not obssessed her obsession fell when her emotions with adora were solidified. Catra will always feel guilt.True sins cannot be repented for.For her to isolate herself will only cause more pain and suffering and is not a good positive way to heal.Her helping rebuild and actually doing something is. Everyone bears scars,regrets and guilt but its the people around you who help.Catra leaving wont only hurt her but adora too.She’s needed and wanted. The show should show that people wont forgive afterall she lead several attacks killed people and nearly destroyed everything in her own twisted obssession.So she shouldnt be forgiven.But redeeming her past ways is always the best next thing. like zuko a perfect example he was hated and shunned but he was humbled and understood that he deserved it due to his last actions.

My complaint with season 5 is there were so many relationships that came out of nowhere. There was very little pointing to adora wanting catra or mermista wanting seahawk. I just wish there was more development of these feelings
@tomnorton4277
@tomnorton4277 2 жыл бұрын
Mermista wanting Sea Hawk was handled fine. It's just that Mermista's way of communicating that she likes someone involves a lot of groaning, like she's saying "Fiiiine, I guess you're not a terrible guy, maybe." It's like Leia refusing to admit that she likes Han Solo, except Sea Hawk is much clumsier than Han. At the end of Boys Night Out, Mermista subtly taps her foot to his shanty, showing that she doesn't dislike his singing anywhere near as much as she pretends to. Catra and Adora's "romance" was dog shit though. Adora never showed any attraction to Catra before Season 5, unless you're REALLY stretching to see signs of romance between them at Princess Prom. Where Catra initiated the "romantic" interaction. And Adora only played along because she knew she was planning something. I buy that Catra was lusting after Adora because she's fucked up enough to want to bang her adopted sister but there's no way Adora was lusting after Catra until it was shoved into Season 5.

A huge issue I had with the show is how it handled the narrative of war. A war is something that affects thousands of people, not just the heroes or villains. But despite there being an ongoing war here, it really seemed like the story was Catra vs Adora, rather than the Horde vs Etheria. Despite there being mentions of the Horde's activities, the only time we feel like it causes important problems is when Adora first finds out about it. And that was only used for Adora's character development. It feels like the death and suffering of common people or the destruction of places doesn't matter at all. All we see is people crying and running, then She-Ra popping in and being like "I shall rescue you!" and everyone is saved, and they all gawk over Adora. Again, that narrative only serves _Adora_ . Not to mention, the princesses act so immature, it's so cringy and strange. The prom was supposed to be about Adora inviting Frosta into the rebellion, but it quickly turned out to be Glimmer getting jealous over Perfuma, and ✨ gay dance ✨ with Catradora. Similarly, they try to plan out how to attack the Horde, but end with the princesses just playing dolls and acting like this is some roleplay fantasy? It seems like they're trying to do normal teenager tropes, with the message of war in the background. The princesses were extremely stupid and the only reason they won in any scenario is because the plot wanted them to win. A show that handles the message of war effectively is Avatar the Last Airbender. While there are certainly light-hearted and humorous moments, it doesn't take away the fact that the war is extremely important in the narrative. From Zuko's perspective alone, we meet Song, who was attacked and burned by the fire nation; and Lee, who lost his brother in the army. From Aang's perspective, we meet Haru, an earthbender who gets imprisoned by the fire nation; Jet, a freedom fighter who is vengeful against the fire nation because his parents were killed; Hama, who learned bloodbending and starts attacking innocent civilians in order to get back at the fire nation. We see how the fire nation civilizations aren't actually bad, how the education system works, how the prisons work, how the other nations also have evil people and this world isn't as black and white as we think. They accomplished all that without making it boring, or too focused on unimportant characters. We feel for everyone in the story, because all of them are suffering the consequences of war. Some people are getting killed, some lose their loved ones, some lose their homes, some are imprisoned, some are forced to seek refuge, etc etc. Despite being a kid's show, ATLA really drives home the plot of a genocidal war and how it doesn't only affect the heroes. But She-Ra? Mermista's kingdom getting conquered was a huge blow. But then, in the next episode we see her sitting in a bathtub, eating ice cream and making depressed cynical remarks, as if she went through a bad breakup instead of losing thousands of people at war. At the end of the episode, she's just like "alright, I'm not gonna stay sad! Let's fight!" The writing was immature and the whole point of this show seemed to be Catradora. Nothing mattered, the ending just needed Catra and Adora to kiss, and the rest of the plot is just adjusted. When discussing something as serious as a war, it's really insensitive to make it seem like it's not a big issue. If it's just a one on one battle, where no one else gets hurt, that's fine. But that's not what a war is, and in the end, She-Ra just seemed like a Catradora fanfic with some other elements sprinkled in. Other issues I have with it is Catra's really bad redemption, Catradora's toxic relationship being romanticized, the extreme ableism shown towards Entrapta and the fact that Horde Prime was a really uninteresting and weak villain to be a big bad.

As a lesbian who identified with Adora on many of the mental health issues courtesy of a horrible mother figure who loved manipulation, allow me to highlight for you the fact that any time Catra showed up Adora was immediately distracted from her She-Ra duties. This is especially prominent in the DnD episode, where Adora does not even stop to consider that maybe she just shouldn't go after Catra when she shows up despite stressing the fact that Catra showing up to distract her would literally tip the scales against them. There is also the fact that she went WAY out of her way to go save Catra from Horde Prime despite how horrible Catra had been to her during the show's time as well as potentially in their shared past as well (as evidenced by some of the actual flashbacks.) As someone with a Catra of my own, I have literally dropped everything to rush to their side at the slightest hint of a problem or danger. Even before we were anything official I could be completely oblivious to the world around us when we were hanging out together, so maybe it wasn't completely obvious in the way Scorpia's crush on Catra was or the fact that Catra loved Adora, but there are so many signs there if you know how to read them. Unlike with Bow and Glimmer, because you are so right and neither of them looked heterosexual in the slightest. Catra and Glimmer had so much chemistry and Bow totally fawned over Sea Hawk.

Well, he wanted the planet for it's magick capabilities so it's kinda useless to nuke it from orbit, especially if all the princess chicks and First One's tech he needs are down there. Besides, the resources and manpower Etheria had are still useful to fuel his war machine and conquest so *not* utilizing it would be just wasteful. Furthermore, he's got a Messiah/God complex cuz according to him _"everyone has a place in service of Horde Prime"_ and all that narcisstic bs. He also appears to like keeping trophies of his conquest around, and what better trophy to have intact than the secret weapon-world of Etheria that belonged to his old enemies The First One's? Also, The Horde isn't really "The Empire from Star Wars", just *a* standard run-of-the-mill evil galactic empire present in so much other fiction. If we were to draw comparisons The Horde is sort of more like the Borg from Star Trek, owing to the whole hive-mind, brainwashing, mind-control integration and assimilation deal. All in all, I don't think Horde Prime was a "dumb villain" per se, just.... painfully average. he certainly came of as creepy and sorta scary, but he isn't really extraordinarily brilliant, cunning or unique in any way. What's funny is that while we never see what Glimmer has to do as "Queenly Duties" and what Angella used to do, the bad guys yet again get character development that makes them more interesting than the main cast. I don't remember which season it was, but Catra has to learn that the grass isn't always greener when she has to fulfill the duties that Shadow Weaver used to. She has to go through paperwork, supply various parts of The Horde's territory with materials, and she pretty much loses her mind over it because it's not why she wanted the position. They had an opportunity to show how Glimmer would deal with it differently, but they didn't really bother.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a great example of a reboot that would have been better as a stand alone property. Because it was a reboot of a toyline pushing cartoon from the 80's it was almost contractually obligated to have a massively bloated cast when it's very clear that there were two characters that the show runners were really interested in. The characters that became Adora and Catra. If they had different names and designs and did everything else the same this show would have done much better and could have cut away most if not all of the bloat.

You know the one thing I do dislike a lot,or well,the two things I dislike mostly is She-Ra's design and Catra's redemption arc. I thought the design of She-Ra was fine,just fine,I thought that saying "she looks like a boy" was way too used and an exaggeration. Theeeen the new design came in and now I can't look at the old one without thinking it is a bit inferior and could have been one thousand times prettier. Then there's Catra's redemption arc,I feel like it was... Rushed... Just a little bit. While Catra does show beforehand she's not 100% evil her attitude towards Adora could get aggressive and toxic,and as someone who technically was a victim of toxic friendships this made it hard to like her,I felt like she does get forgiven a tiny bit too fast by any character that isn't Adora,it's just my personal opinion,I don't mind her getting redeemed I'm a sucker for redemption arcs! But I think it could've been slightly longer or reduce her toxic behavior cause sometimes she was too much and even too evil,if she had been less aggressive and cruel it could've been easier to buy her redemption. _Edit: yup. Catra had everything to be a Zuko. And she really wasn't one so oh well_ And this isn't the series but damn this fandom is weird. My biggest problem had to be how Catra was redeemed. I don't think she should have been forgiven by the main characters and especially not by Adora. Of course it's fine that Catra feels remorse for what she did, that is fine. But as you said, the other characters had NO incentive to believe that Catra truly regrets what she did, much less be forgiven. Allow me to remind you what Catra did. She attempted to end the whole world, fully aware of what she was doing JUST so Adora wouldn't win the fight. I don't know about you, but I couldn't forgive someone for that no matter what they did afterwards or how they felt. I think it's really unfair how Shadoweaver was doubted SO MUCH and distrusted by everyone when Catra seemed to have been forgiven easily, even though she had done far worse things. Tried to kill Adora's friends, tried to kill Adora, tried to *end the world*. I would have preferred it if Catra stayed the antagonist, as that's what the story forced into our faces since the very start. I genuinely thought that Adora truly hated her guts on season 2 finale (iirc that was the time stamp). I mean, Adora had literally every single reason to despise and absolutely hate Catra.

She wasn't needed for the story after that - Adora could have handled the Heart of Etheria by kissing Glimmer instead - and they should have made Adora's rescue attempt obligatory. Catra saved Glimmer so Adora should have ONLY gone to rescue her because she owed her. If Catra didn't die, they should have had Adora ignore her and make it very clear that she only saved her to repay a debt, not because she was giving her another chance.

Like have the Nu-Ra(New She-Ra), be Adora's Daughter or perhaps younger sister..and she carries on the torch with the Power of Greyskull and have her own group of friends...There's a reason why shows like Teen-Titans GO, Thunder Cats Roar get panned by fans of the originals because it's just like...Make new and original cartoon properties instead of reboots/remakes.

I cannot overstate how much I agree with this video. So many She-ra videos either overpraise or overhate the show in my opinion, but I agree with pretty much 90% of this video. ESPECIALLY the protagonist's side characters. Like the villains are pretty good and the heroes are fine for the most part but do you even write side characters that bland. Like, they have their moments, but most of the time, yeah they're pretty boring.

I guess it's just a *coincidence* that the only princess who isn't human is aligned with the Horde. I don't think the show should have included a plot thread about racism. Same with Glimmer and her dad, they’ve been separated for their whole lives and when Gilmore finally sees him again they just....hug. Same with Entrapta and Hordak. They’ve been separated for about 2 seasons and build up such a good friendship. Yes they hug and talk off screen, but that’s about it. Frosta’s character was kinda just there. Excellent video! When I was watching She Ra, I thought the premise was really interesting, and as an abuse victim, I could see myself in both Adora and Catra, but the problem with SPOP 2018 is that it settles a contradictory message and Noelle seems kind of abuse apologetic and an hypocrite tbh. SPOP is supposed to tell abuse victims that they should break the cycle of abuse, which is awesome (as shown with Adora's iconic phrase "you made your choice, now live with it" to Catra for example or with Scorpia's "you are a bad friend" phrase to Catra)... but it also teaches kids the opposite by telling them that forgiving your abuser and giving them second chances because they had a rough childhood is okay, which is not. It's like the show tries to convey that some types of abuse are justified and forgivable, and others aren't, for example: Catra's abuse towards Adora is justified and deserves to win Adora as a prize at the end, but SW's abuse is not justified, it doesn't make sense. SPOP conveys a really dangerous message: forgive your abuser, because they deserve it. Yes, I'm obviously against Catradora. Catra did not love Adora, she viewed her as possession. In Catra's mind, Adora belonged solely to her, Adora had to do what Catra wanted, had to be where Catra desired her to be, she wanted to have control over Adora (as proven by phrases such us "I've got control over Adora, I'm not giving that up!" with a smile or "you are mine Adora" while giggling), and she did everything in her power to demonstrate she was superior, that she was in command, how? By constantly abusing Adora both physically and emotionally, and even trying to kill her multiple times. How is this behaviour rewarded? By giving Adora as a prize for her hard journey. It is uncomfortable to watch Catra ask Adora "don't you get it? I love you" as if it was something she had made clear, when in reality all we saw was Catra punching, kicking, scratching, slapping, gaslighting, resenting, threatening and trying to kill Adora and her friends in multiple ocassions. The show failed abuse victims tbh

You dont understand it.Im not good in English so I cant explain it well. But pls. there are people who deserve second chances, and Catra's character deserves it. And for me,Shadow weaver too but it's understandable if people find it hard to forgive her just like in real life.(So I believe it's realistic scenario) We cant force people to easily forgive someone, forgiveness is a decision. Forgiving someone is okay as long as you dont ever allow that person to do the same thing over again.(Dont ever say it's not okay). You are not obliged to rekindle your relationship with that person if it's not worth it. Your perspective about Catra's character is dangerous and not gonna help other people who behave the same way as she did,if I had ead this comment before,it would've turned me worst. You cant expect people to change in an instant without doing anything to help them so why expect Catra who was never exposed from anything other than of her immediate environment to behave well? Expect her views/beliefs will be different from anyone as she had no other influence and that's how she was raised/trained to become. But you can see in the end,she was starting to work on her issues ofcourse by the help of positive influence she's getting from Adora and her friends. I dont wanna justify Catra's action but it's understandable. It deserved attention and empathy. Although I find her selfish in the beginning,at least she was making a progress and starting to accept and be okay with Adora having other friends. That means she's learning and willing. And the physical abuse you were saying is not considered physical abuse there. How're you gonna fight your enemy without throwing a punch? It's like saying boxing is an abusive sport or being a soldier is abuse because they use force. (Physical abuse always depends on the severity,if done in justifiable reason etc.) I also suffered from mistreatment,abuse that made me behave badly. What I hate is when people expect me to be very kind and unproblematic yet no one was willing to reach out when they noticed it

Wow, this is a really good rant! I like how you're stating your opinions without saying 'its the worst show ever', or 'I hate this and this is the worst thing in the history of television'. I also agreed with some of your statements! Like, what DID Angella really do as queen, and what were the specific reasons glimmers so stressed about being queen? In regards to Hordak though; while it is true that Hordak started the war and had the intention of bringing Prime to Etheria, it could all be traced back to Prime. It was Prime who sent Hordak on a suicide mission because Hordak was defective, (something he could not control) and when the portal opened, and it sent Hordak to a strange planet in an empty dimension, with no way to reconnect to the hivemind or go back home. It seems that the clones' only purpose was to serve horde primes will, so when one fails to do that for whatever reason, they were cast aside and sent to die and deemed worthless. All Hordak wanted was to feel worthy of living, to fulfill his purpose (due to the programming of horde prime) and to prove to HIMSELF that he was not a failure.He was completely alone, with no one to morally guide him, only left with surviving in the ways he knew how. (unlike wrong hordak) He knew that to Horde prime, someone who conqured worlds was someone to be exhalted, someone who was worth his time. So, Hordak tried to conqure Etheira. Perhaps the reason we see him have no remorse to destryoing homes and lives is because clones weren't programmed to have emotions or thoughts for themselves (so that horde prime could keep them in power and they wouldn't go against him). We see that only 'certain privalages are reserved for prime', like eating, faicial expressions, etc. So, this leads me to believe that critical thinking and emotions were also 'reserved for prime', so that prime could maintain his clones and power. I see a lot of people compare him to WH (wrong hordak); that WH is what hordak could've been if he was 'good'. The differences between the two is how they bassically 'grew up'. At first, we see WH catching entrapta and bow in the server room and wanting to report them, saying what all clones are programmed to say; that prime sees all and that prime would take care of him. Then, he was dissconected from the hivemind. We see him have an existencial crises when he falls on top of bow and seems very upset about Prime not being able to see his thoughts. I'm assuming this is how hordak felt when he was sent to die(except worse), that he was so worthless and had no purpose to live anymore that he deserved to be wiped away. When he was stranded to etheria, he saw this as a chance to prove to prime that he was faithful and worthy. That he was not a failure. WH on the other hand was accepted into a nurturing family who guided him in a moral and just way that let him decide for HIMSLEF what Horde Prime was doing was wrong. Now, I could rant on and on about Hordak and Entrapta's relationship, and how they both became better people because of it, but I'll just say a few things cause this rant is taking too long. Entrapta was the first person to see past hordak's emotional (and physical) armor, and to befriend him for the imperfect guy he is. She taught him that imperfections were beautiful; that it's what makes way for scientific experimentation. For Hordak (all of his life seeing himself as worthless because of his imperfections/failures) this made him actually feel like a person; valued and loved for who he was. The things he wanted his entire life. He learned didn't have to be 'perfect' in order to be worthy or loved. And Entrapta learned to care for another person and to grow a relationship, something she's had trouble doing the entire show. You could say the Hordak taught her to care for other people and to how to work hard on relationships in order to keep them (platonic, romantic, etc) Hordak truely valued and respected her (even to a point where he valued her more than prime), not telling her to 'speak normal' like the other characters, and respected her like an intelligent ADULT. Entrapta was a major factor into Hordak's ark from a villian to not such a bad guy. She made Hordak capable of retailating against his authority figure and decide for HIMSELF what he wanted, not just to follow orders of Prime. This is just what I think after trying to dig deep on Hordak's character; you dont have to agree!

I disagree with your opinion on Catradora and the lgbt rep. The lgbt rep one is mainly because of the fandom tho. I think the fandom and creators only care about the ships. So to me it felt like the ships were all in your face and I didn’t like that. And it felt like the ships took priority over the story. Also I did not ship catradora because I think it’s a toxic and abusive relationship. All Catra ever did was hurt Adora. Catra emotionally and physically abused hr their entire lives. Catra being an abusive victim herself does not excuse her abusive behavior towards others. Catra tried to kill Adora multiple times, attempted to destroy all of reality out of pure spite for Adora, and actively tried to destroy everything and everyone Adora cared about. Catra has extreme abandonment issues, is selfish, immature, and destructive. None of these issues were ever seriously addressed in any way. I felt the show excused this by saying Catra was in love with her the whole time? Really? Even when she tried to kill Adora and destroy reality? She was in love with her then? In season 5, when Adora believed she had to go save the universe alone, Catra immediately made it all about herself, physically hurt Adora, and didn’t care about Adora’s feelings or her duty as She-ra. I think this is a terrible relationship to promote to children. Terrible actions and abusive behavior is excused by the power of love is a horrible message. How is this a good relationship? I hate the praise and love catradora gets. It’s the only thing the fandom cares about How is this good representation? Am I the only one that thinks catradora is horrible?
@FallenGale

I agree that the ship itself isn't a good example of a healthy relationship. I think it's important to separate what's being praised tho. I think the idea that the main character is in a lesbian relationship with an on screen kiss is an important thing to celebrate because it does not happen often. I said in my redemption section that I do not think the writers handled Catra's redemption well because she did so many awful things and none of them are really addressed, but I don't want that to take away from someone excited that their favorite heroine got to love a girl just like they do. If this was a real relationship with real people, I would rage at how bad this couple is. It is logically an awful pairing. But it is also a cartoon with magic and aliens and talking horses, so I'm not going to get mad at people who find enjoyment in it. Kinda like Joker and Harley Quinn. And I always saw the designs as more Athletic and Feminine, than sexualized. I mean, heck, at least half of the staff in the original 80's show were female, and most of the original character designs were even thought up and drawn by women. Entrapta grew too and so did Hordak. Also, Adora actually REGRESSED in Season 5. Her growth in the first 4 seasons was great because it wasn't just focussed on her being She Ra, it was also about her escaping from toxic relationships. However, they threw that out of the window because she suddenly has the hots for a psychotic cat who abused and gaslighted her for years and tried to destroy the world out of petty spite.

In November 2019, I went with my best friend to see Princess Mononoke in theaters (special event), and I honestly say it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I also remembered there was an intro with Noelle Stevenson before the movie, and she talks about how this movie inspired her work like She Ra (Link to it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aqtza9dlu7Smoqc.html) When I watched Season 4, I was expecting the story to become more interesting and my expectations were pretty high, but the more I watched, I kept asking myself "How is this anything like Princess Mononoke? The characters lack depth, the world is not engaging and confusing, and the animation/action feels mediocre compared to it." Honestly, I dropped the show after Season 4. I just no longer cared for anyone (aside from Kyle and Scorpia) and I felt the great potential this show had was being wasted. Overall, this show is a 5/10 for me. Great concepts and ideas, mediocre execution. It definitely is not the worst cartoon (there are worse things to watch), but I might have to argue against someone who says this is on the level of Avatar or Studio Ghibli.

@FallenGale
@FallenGale 3 жыл бұрын
I think he was done well. By keeping him a less important and more comedy centric character, the writers allow him to just exist without needing to force him in our faces. We understand what he represents in terms of "the lesson" but nothing he's going through really trumps the main plot so it was best he didn't take up too much time. Overall, I found him funny and unobtrusive so I enjoyed his few on screen moments.

To be honest, the Ducktales Reboot is of a better quality. Why? Unlike She-Ra, the Ducktales Reboot stays true to the lore and appeals to the spirit of the original and the creators go as far as doing their research. When they make changes they at least make them feel like they’re part of the work rather than tacking them in. The writers of the She-Ra reboot? They completely alienated fans of the original the more I think about it, and they did little research Masters of The Universe lore. It’s not a faithful reboot.

@@Carabas72 I never said anything about She-Ra being a continuation of the old show nor Ducktales 2017 being a continuation of the original. I was talking about the idea of a reboot being faithful to the source material it is derived from. That’s different from being a continuation of the old show. Like for example in Ducktales, they kept a lot of aspects of Scrooge’s background intact. Like for example they kept Scrooge’s participation in the Klondike Gold Rush from The Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck intact, and that was important event the character went through. Or in another episode where Scrooge receives a letter from his sister which uses the exact wording of the letter Della gave Donald in the comics, but with Donald and Della’s names in place of the Triplets. It’s those kinds of references that matter. Like I said, you just can’t appreciate a good reboot when you see one, and neither could Noelle or any member of She-Ra creative team. You talk about not being allowed to research stuff you aren’t legally allowed to use? Then how was the Ducktales 2017 creative team legally allowed to use the source material for that reboot?
@Carabas72
@Carabas72 3 жыл бұрын
@@paolotorres8537 The old and new Duck Tales shows are both relatively close adaptions of pre-existing source material. she-Ra isn't. And that's fine. Reboots are not one of a kind. Nobody gives Tom Cruise crap because his Mission Impossible reboot isn't faitful to the lore of the 60s original. I only vaguely recall the original Duck Tales show and have not seen one episode of the new one, I mostly recall Carl Banks comics. So all the Duck Tales show talk is kind of lost on me. Nevermind that Noelle's She-Ra show is filled with references both visual and textual to the old show only diehard fans of the old show are even going to notice.

I do really like She-Ra and the Princess of Power. There are some good points in this video. While I like most the characters including the side characters for the most part I will agree that they could have been developed more and they could have been made more interesting. I can understand how the friendship ending can be a bit of a cop out which it kinda was in the first season. I think it kinda makes sense for the last one because of the person that prime is he thinks emotion is a weakness and so he didn’t account for making something to defend against it so it makes sense in that context at least in my opinion

My huge problem with this show is the main ship.I hate that they made Catradora canon just to "make all the fans happy".Don't get me wrong, I'm not homophobic, however I despise abuse.As an abused person, I could not notice the abusive relationship Catra and Adora have, even as friends.It's just my opinion, but I find it disgusting how some people defend this ship with bad arguments.I understand, Catra is mentally unstable, but you can't deny the fact that multiple times, she tried to KILL Adora.You can't justify that with"Oh but she wanted to kill She-Ra, not Adora",or"But she didn't DIRECTLY tried to kill Adora".Let's be honest here, if Adora wasn't a pushover and written just to be mold after Catra, she would've left Catra alone and never looked back.Realistically speaking, an abused person(and yes, I'm talking about Adora here), is most of the time afraid of the abuser, no matter if the abuser is a friend, partner, parent etc, but they play Adora like"Oh, my BFF tried to maim me or even kill me?Hm, strange!".And at the end of the season 3, when Catra opens the portal and Adora saves them all, like always, when she sees Catra, you can even FEEL the hatred in her eyes, and then, Catra is the one that's afraid.But then, in season 5, we get a few episodes of them being friends again and then"lovers".Why?
@ellasharon1899
@ellasharon1899 3 жыл бұрын
All your points are valid: but here’s my take as a CATRADORA shipper. First off, noelle Stevenson the writer WANTED CATRADORA to be cannon from the beginning but couldn’t make it too overt until the end because homophobic executives. As for the abuse thing, that is valid. I read it as two people fighting a war which wasn’t really abuse as much as two people fighting eachother. But that’s just how I saw it so subjective.For me it was okay because CATRA was actively working to become a better person. She wanted to do that one good thing with nothing for herself. This doesn’t absolve her of her crimes, but I believe that she has changed. And it’s adoras choice whether she wants CATRA back in her life and if she forgives CATRA. And she does. So that’s how I got behind their ship. I do have problems with CATRAS redemption arc and the fact that EVERYBODY forgave her, but I really do ship catradora. So there’s the essay that you literally didn’t ask for. I’m so sorry. I just sort of wanted to explain why someone WOULD think it was okay to ship it.

That video is interesting. As someone who loves the show, I agree with many things you said. I especially agree with your opinions on season 5. I believe that Catra should've been given at least a full season for her redemption, instead of just a few episodes and moments and then just being accepted as part of the rebellion, facing the concequences of her actions and proving that she is capable of change. I think the worst thing about her redemption is the lack of concequences she got, especially from Adora. Imagine this: the whole season Adora is the one who mistrusts Catra the most. She's still not convinced that Catra is really on her side, despite Catra trying her best to prove that she's on her side. More and more about the horse and the feelings and experiences of their members and so also Catra gets exposed. Even the other characters slowly grow to trust her more, but Adora remains doubtful. But then in the finale of season 5 the hero isn't Adora but Catra. Catra does something truly incredible and finally Adora realises that Catra is on their side now. That finally completes Catras redemption. In season 6 then they could build more on a team dynamic between Catra and Adora and giving them time to bond more. And at the end Catra gets a therapist because she really needs that. And since I agree that Hordak shouldn't be "redeemed" I believe they also could have had an arc about Entrapta coming to terms with the fact that Hordak isn't just misunderstood or had a bad life but is indeed a terrible person. Btw I also think Shadow Weaver shouldn't have been redeemed.

To be honest. I don’t think in Season 1 just fRiEnDShIP saved the day. Before in the LightHope episode, LightHope literally explained partly that the bond between the princesses was important. The rainbow represented Friendship, yes, I won’t deny that. But it also represented a part of the strong magical bond between the princess and their rune stones, what you could also see in a few shots. Also you could come to the conclusion why Brightmoon was the main kingdom pretty obviously in my opinion. Angella said in Season 1 that when the darkness fulfills the kingdom that the Horde could get BrightMoon and Etheria way more easily. That the runes tones kept a steady connection for the weather and planet. So if BrightMoon, the light for Etheria. Literally. Was taken down, it Wanst as easy to rebuild as for example Salineas. I say light for Etheria, because of the details of darkness, the weather change in the background while the BrightMoon battle and in the end, when all rue stones were connected equally again, the normal brightness was back. So I think it was- kinda obvious? But that is just my opinion.
@Carabas72
@Carabas72 3 жыл бұрын
Brightmoon is the main kingdom because it's where the main characters live. If Adora had run into Mermista and Sea Hawk in the pilot instead of Glimmer and Bow, Salineas would have been the main kingdom. And Brightmoon is also the main kingdom because it was the main kingdom in the original show.

What frustrates me the most about this show is that the original actually did a better job of establishing Etheria and the threat the Horde posed. For example, we don't just see the Horde blasting enemy civilians with lasers as proof that they're evil, we actually see how they treat people under their rule, and there are lots of episodes that show all the different ways that their subjects are affected by them. We see things like them taxing people into poverty, terrorising people who say bad things about them, enslaving people, etc. This serves to both make us care about the Etherians, and want to see the Horde defeated. In the reboot I cared about the war like it was a sports game, I wanted the good guy's team to win, but that was about it. They also removed all of the original comic relief characters, but then turned serious characters like Sea Hawk into comic reliefs. Like... why? Just keep Loo-Kee and Kowl if you wanted comic relief!

@@lalaland2107 I feel like the show would've been much better if it centred around a less serious conflict, like a basketball tournament or something. Then the characters not taking things seriously would be justified, Catra's feelings of betrayal at Adora leaving the Horde would be justified (as she actually would be leaving her for better friends), her decision to stay with the Horde would be justified, and us never getting to really know the common people wouldn't matter, as they'd actually be irrelevant. Noelle Stevenson apparently only worked on stories like that before this show (Lumberjanes for example), and didn't want to make a reboot of She-ra, but it was the only option given to her. So I get the feeling that that's what the show was intended to be, and they just didn't adjust the characters to the new setting.

@@lalaland2107 I'm thinking that because 80's She-ra was kinda campy and silly, all parties involved assumed that that wouldn't matter, as mature writing is only needed for dark/gritty stories. What they failed to realise is, is that even in a light-hearted and colourful show, you still need treat serious topics with some level of weight and dignity. From what I've seen of it, it's just about a girl scout camp, and the misadventures the scouts get up to.
