@LeonAllanDavis
@LeonAllanDavis 3 жыл бұрын
@@Inyourspectraleyes Yeah...it's really kind of crazy when you think about it. Spanky MacFarland. Janis. Grace Slick. Cass Elliot. Petula Clark. Michelle Phillips. Bonnie Bramlett. Leslie Gore. Carla Thomas. They could all bring it. It's easy for young people today to look at someone like me and say, "old people always think their time was better." But really, go ahead and compare the lady singers of my day to what you have now. Taylor Swift who can't sing a note without Autotune. Lady Gaga who feels the need to dress up in clown outfits. And worst of all, a couple chicks rapping about their "Wet Ass Pussies". Worst of all, there's a market for songs done by females about their soaking wet vaginas. I haven't heard anyone say this is a bad thing. And all signs point to things getting worse.

You need to listen to COURTNEY HADWIN and her live AGT Audition 2018 (something like 3 or 400 million views at the time & plenty more since - waiting for her first album which covid has delayed) where she covered "Too Hard to Handle" which she did ala Janis Joplin - she lit the place up. Now, 3yrs on, she's been rockin some covers and making each one her own in the process). We who loved Janis Joplin dearly now love this young girl who will be even bigger, and for the same good reasons - it's been said by many she is Janice reincarnated 🤪👌 You will double your likes and subs if u win over Courtney Hadwin fans! Pls check her out 🙏 Love your reactions 👍❤

Big Brother already had an album out before Monterey Pop. I used to listen to it with a girl who worshiped Janis. However, like with the Grateful Dead, it may not have been a big record company. When Janis signed with a major label, part of the deal was she had to drop Big Brother as her back-up band. I think it helped to destroy her. Sam Andrews used to look after her.

Around the Bay Area we knew of her. What was going on at the Avalon and Filmore was way better than what was playing on the radio. Back then it took time to get known across the U.S. Everything was regional. There were hits on the West Coast before the East Coast ever heard of them. The Jefferson Airplane was the first with "Somebody to Love" but no one from the East Coast ever heard of them. The Summer of '67 brought maybe a million tourists out to S.F. I don't know if it's still the same but you can have stars in Texas who sells records but the rest of the country has never heard of them.

When I was in my mid 20's I was working for my then girlfriend's Dad's truck repair shop and worked with an older black guy who turned me onto the blues, gave me a Howlin' Wolf box set. We then began to talk about other artists and Janis Joplin came up and he thought she was black for the longest time, I'll never forget that comment, or Cliff for getting me into the blues 😉

Couple of important points. The band was Big Brother and the Holding Company. Janis kind of hooked up with them. They thought they were super hot but Janis put them in the shade. They never got their mojo back after they were tagged as a backing band for Janis. Second point. This was on June 16, 1967. Janis died on October 6, 1970. So she was on the national scene for only 42 or 44 months. Not very long. You should do her, "Cry, Baby!" That'll rock your world. Starts out with that primal scream. Maybe the greatest hook in the history of rock 'n roll.
