It breaks my heart to see how traumatised Stella is but am hopeful your loving care will bring her round to feel safe and loved. This video shows how much more is involved in your work than just cute puppies and perfect patients like Cindy and Rusty. Seeing Stella in this state is hard to watch, I can't even imagine how hard it is for you guys to be living through it. The 60 second success stories are truly heartwarming but seeing all the reality of your mission is vitally important to educate and also continue to generate much needed funding and support, so you can help many more dogs like lovely Stella. You will definitely win Stella over, Nial. Time and patience is all we need. You are a dog whisperer like many other good animal rescuers.

A couple of others have mentioned Rocky Kanaka and how he sits with dogs, too, slowly gaining their trust. Also, Takis of Takis Shelter in Crete, Greece, has had at least a few dogs with horrible deep cuts in their necks from embedded, outgrown collars or other restraints. And they all healed well to where you really can't see the wound or scar any more. But yes, it's crucial to be able to approach and handle the dog to keep the wound clean. As for angry "biters", who have invariably been severely abused by humans, usually men, Takis has used a similar technique of slowly desensitizing a dog with a thick leather glove, slowly stroking its cheek. Eventually it calms down and comes around. So, Niall, if you have any doubts, it seems to me from these other dog guys that you have great instincts and are in good company. All of you have so much love, passion and compassion for these dogs in need. Thanks for all you do. ❤🐶 P.S. You probably already know about Takis and Rocky Kanaka. Just wanted to reinforce the positive connections I see between the three of you in terms of slowly, gently helping dogs become more socialized and lose their fears.

Definitely not a boring video. I felt like a couldn’t get close enough to be in there too 😂 My great grandmothers name was Stella. Very strong, kind, gentle woman but she’d snap once in awhile, too!

I actually prefer these kinds of slow, realistic videos. I was hypnotized by Niall’s voice tbh and watched the whole thing. You can see so many flies around her 🥲 I think Niall was very brave and did a great job.

Thank you so much for saving Stella. She is clearly terrified of humans. Rocky Kanaka, who has his own KZfaq channel on rescue dogs, has great tips for sitting with terrified dogs so you might want to consider checking his channel out. He usually sits with a dog for 30 mins at least without making eye contact before they even think of warming up. So I think we just have to give Stella space and time to come round.

God I hope she gets better and more comfortable, this breaks my heart. People have a lot to learn from dogs and animals in general
