I appreciate that you did a bit of research about her before hand. Knowing a bit of her background helps because it helps understand her songs. She's always heavily involved in her albums, from writing to composing to working on the story boards for her MV's, so knowing her history and her struggles just make the songs even better. Btw, her baptismal name is Maria, so she wrote the song for herself, but also to others who may be struggling. She can sing live! Mamamoo all can and I mean REALLY sing live. The word bitch means lit in Korean. But also had the attitude. Her writing is rich in meaning and wordplay. Catchy hooks for those in fluent in Korean. Maria is her baptismal name. A word with cultural meaning. And a common phrase with modern generation usage. Maria is a commentary on the contradiction in KPOP. Red Haired Maria breaks all of them. The fans of Mamamoo in Korea are 90% female. They write to them. The international fans are more female. Rainbow Bridge World, RWB, is all about the vocals. Oneus. Oneus. Purplekiss. Most people say she looks like Beyoncé, but I think her voice is a little bit more like Rahanna But none of these statements means anything. HWASA is absolutely just like herself because HWASA charm is unique.

She has many tattoos along with 2 of her band mates she has two matching tattoos with her middle school bestfriend who is in the group one on the neck and the other on the acheles heel the only one with out any as of yet is the leader Solar i think youd enjoy he group Mamamoo 🙂🙂

I feel it's important to point out the song about feeling the entire world coming after her, alone, faceless critics literally eating her organs, ends with the reminder that she's not really alone and has family-by-choice that will show up and support her when she needs it, and how the audience can relate that to themselves. But maybe that was purely accidental. Hwasa in red you should get to Yes I Am as soon as possible. Mamamoo's song blasting beauty standards (in a positive way) getting 7 music show wins including a triple crown, the women that were "too short and not pretty enough" to succeed looking fine AF while they do it.

A major influence on Hwasa (and all of Mamamoo) is the 2nd Gen Kpop Group 2NE1 (now disbanded), all 4 members of Mamamoo are Blackjacks (2NE1 fandom). That first scene in the mv is like a call-back to 2NE1's Come Back Home video (another group who were seen as shocking and deemed 'ugly' - they wrote a song about it). You see the influence also in their singing style and attitude - especially the 2NE1 leader CL. If you like how Hwasa brings it, you should definitely check out CL's solo material (start with Spicy, pre-release track from her debut album Alpha) and any of 2NE1's mv's (recommended starting points "I Am The Best", "I Don't Care, Crush) and definitely check out CL/2NE1's 2015 MAMA performance where they turned the entire awards show into their own concert.

@@infinitelocke Another former member Minzy just released a new single right before Xmas called 'Fantabulous' - one of (if not the) best female dancer in Kpop - she is on the same level as Lisa (her protégé) and Seulgi. Her solo stuff has more of a Latin vibe to it. The former main vocal Park Bom, who has probably the most distinctive voice in Kpop has a couple of killer singles too (see Spring featuring the 4th 2NE1 member Dara) and is planning a comeback around February 2022. The 2019 Mnet show Queendom featured Mamamoo and Park Bom as a soloist. There were some really special moments between them and at first you could see how shook Mamamoo were to meet one of their idols (the other groups too!).

If you like Hwasa you’ll also probably like Jessi too. These women don’t gaf about Korean beauty standards and do their own thing. I don’t want to spoil anything about where Jessi is from… the discovery will be yours and you can better appreciate her struggles in KPop Industry. Rabbit holes are cool!
