UNIT III AXIAL BAR AND MATERIAL MODULUS Simple stress and Strain, Mechanical Properties of Materials, Statically Determinate Problems and Elastic Constants, Tension, Compression, and Shear, Elasticity, Plasticity and Creep, Hooke’s Law. Allowable stresses. UNIT IV BEAM BENDING AND TORSION Axially loaded members, Statically indeterminate structures, Thermal effects, misfits, and Pre-strains. Torsion of circular bar, Transmission of power by circular shafts. Stresses in beams, Pure bending and Nonuniform bending, Design of beams for bending stresses, Shear stresses in beams of rectangular cross section.
