This is an in depth look at making a belt loop sheath from scratch. There are many ways to go about it but this is just to show my process. I hope it helps!

This is a really well done video. I just started working with leather and liked how you explained each step and how your process works. But I also like how you explained alternate ways of doing some of the steps. I learned a lot. I tried once to make a knife sheath and my pattern was FUBAR. Threw it away. After watching this video, I have some confidence to try it again. Thanks for the lesson.

Thanks so much! I’ll be adding some other simple leather sheath options to the channel soon.

14:21 stitching with an awl gives the nicest looking stitches out there. That is if you aren’t a beginner who thinks a method of doing something is bad because you’re bad at it. It does take time to get used to it and is not necessary the same way high quality pricking irons aren’t necessary if you don’t care about the look of your stitching. But saying it “gives uneven stitching” is like claiming humans can’t swim because YOU can’t swim.

Good stuff. I use the thickness of leather I'm using as a measurement for the crease, ie; if I'm using 1/4" leather I'd come down 1/4" from the crease and line my spine up with that.

Hey Brent, what is the brand and model number of the stitching machine that you use? I'm getting tired of doing them by hand and want something that's cleaner. Thanks

Hi, sorry I’m just seeing this but I am using a Tippman boss in this video. I now use a Cowboy 3200 Machine.

Enjoyed the video. One point, though, You neglected to leave a 'weep hole' at the point of the sheath. You just probably forgot as your work indicates good passion for the art.

FYI, neatsfoot oil is made from the shinbones and foot bones (tarsal and metatarsal bones) of cows.
