Thank you so much for all of your reviews. I have especially been waiting for this one.. I have experienced green, off color in some of the packets. I got worried that I might make my cats sick and discarded them. I may give it another try because it did seem to be good ingredients. Maybe they had some issues that have been resolved. I will say my cats got really food aggressive with sheba. They really liked it.

If you tap the sheba container on your counter, away from the tab, the food will not explode out.

I have a 17 year old cat that has only eaten dry cat food. She didn't like any of the wet varieties. However, she recently stopped eating much at all, so I decided to try Sheba Cuts and Gravy under the assumption her teeth may be sensitive to the dry food. She LOVED it!!!! She scarfed it down like it was the best thing she'd ever tasted! I am thrilled to see my little girl enjoying her food again!

I contacted Sheba about recycling the plastic part of the package. They said they’re recyclable. Just clean them thoroughly first (as with any container that held food).

While the material itself is recyclable, most municipal recycling facilities unfortunately won't be able to sort items that small, and they will in most cases end up in the landfill. Recycling in my state tells us to put small plastics into the trash.

I had one section of a Sheba snap pack and just went and looked at the bottom of it. You are 100% correct! 🐱💕 The recycling triangle is on there.. The print is _teensy_ , but there's a 7 in the middle of it which my recycling center accepts. Glad you brought that up!! 👍

They probably are recyclable, but at very few locations. Nebuchadnezzar is right, by far and away most facilities cannot recycle small/thin plastics. The research is very depressing on this, topic but most plastics that go in recycling go right to the landfill.

Sheba is the only wet food brand I've found that my cat can eat without puking, Holistic Naturals is the only other brand that works for him.

I hope you know the parent manufacturer of this Cat food is Mars intl. same as Royal Canin and Whiskas. This food is terrible and has mysterious ingredients and high carbohydrate content. It will deinitely have long term health effects on your cat. Go for Ziwii, NZ naturals or Feline Natural Wet. The reason your cat might seem to love it is because they add a lot of artificial flavouring in these products. Please check the ingredients before you select a cat food. I'd recommend switching to homemade food, its much more cheaper and easy to make IMO and its 100% raw meat.

It's one thing to buy them healthy food, its another to get them to eat it long term, I've just swapped to sheba as it's the only wet food they'll both eat

Both of my cats are picky about their food and of course they don’t like the same things lol 🙄 Sheba is the only brand that they both will eat and continue to get excited for. I definitely had to get used to opening the packages, at first it was annoying but I think I have it done now. I was looking for the longest time for a food that wasn’t terribly high in carbs because one of my kitties struggles with maintaining her weight so I’m so glad I found one that they both like and is also budget friendly.

My cat always love Sheva, but lately every time I feed her, she vomit all the food. I wait a while then I give her another brand and she does not vomit it. What do you think will be the cause of this? Thanks

The tip of not having the twin packs splash all over the place, face the end where you peel towards the dish you're about to put the food in. The initial opened gap will spray out some of the juice which will land directly onto their dish. Then peel it 90% way out and don't worry about peeling the entire lid off the pack, 90% will be more than enough to get the food out. Most importantly, do not have wet hands when opening it, it'll just become too slippery to easily peel off.

I have a cat that was ADDICTED to kibble and would NOT eat any wet foods until Sheba. She'll eat this. He eats it and will eat all of it. I LOVE that it comes in serving size portions and have never had difficulty opening the package as I use the edge of the spoon under the tab, press down with my thumb and it pulls right off. I do not feed the paté style and have never seen any "off" coloration. I purchase from Chewys as stores are having supply issues.

Thanks for this posting, my almost 18 year old cat ate the Sheba pates almost exclusively until I had to say goodbye to her recently. This wet food did not cause big swings in her blood glucose numbers like Friskies did... DIABETIC CAT ALERT ABOUT FRISKIES, folks!!

You have to use a carb calculator looking at the data on the back. It can be all over the place across brand. Plus these great tips from Mallory.

8:56. After slicing my thumb trying to open a package, I keep rubber kitchen gloves 🧤 near the food. With arthritis in my fingers, the gloves are a godsend.

Oh my goodness. You should not have to wear rubber kitchen gloves to safely open a plastic tray of cat food, but I'm glad you found something that works!

I’ve tried so many wet foods and Sheba is the only one I’ve found my cat will eat. I would love to see their food offered in a 3 oz can though. Thanks for the review.

My senior cat is very picky about food and really likes most of the Sheba flavors. He would never finish even a smaller can of the other brands and refused to eat the leftovers, so I quit buying cans of wet food because I ended up throwing half of each can away, or the whole can if my picky senior cat didn't like the flavor. I really like the portion sizing of the current Sheba packaging because there is very little leftover when serving one side at a time. Less wasted money, very little leftover and a happier cat. The "perfect portion" claim is true, at least for my senior cat.

give him like 1 half or one fourth a an, then put little water in the food put lid back on and stir it and give him another 1/4 to 1/2. mixing it and having the water added freshesn it up.

My cat is pretty picky and she loves all of the Sheba cuts products. A good tip to prevent splashing is to shake the cup back and forth and then give it one good shake in the direction away from the tab. That will move all the food over to the other side so it won’t splash out. The splashing is a good thing btw, it means the food is protected under vacuum to prevent oxidation. Anyway, the food is easy on her stomach and I’ve switched to mostly giving her wet food in order to protect her kidneys long term. Most cats don’t get enough liquids in their diets and end up having kidney issues down the line, so wet food is a must.

I find the Sheba containers very difficult to open, especially for senior citizens. The lady who was watching my cats did, as well. Need to improve containers.

My cat, Ziggy, absolutely LOVES this stuff. She hardly likes other wet food, but the moment I crack those two little plastic trays apart, she gets turned into a beast. She's so happy to eat it.

I use the Sheba packs as a late night snack if I am able to sleep in the next morning. They will probably get a Sheba or Iams pack tonight because it is Friday and I do not have to work tomorrow, so I know they will not have their breakfast at the customary 555am. My cats eat it pretty well, even the one with health problems and a poor appetite.

I came here wondering if anyone else’s cat was addicted to Sheba cat food. I think my cat is unhealthily addicted to it though. I actually didn’t mix any with her dry food earlier and she followed to the kitchen like “finish making my food, short monkey”. Lol

My feral loves Sheba but two weeks ago I had a handful that were discolored greenish. Returned to Target with no issues and the new ones have not been discolored. Would love a review of fussy cat canned food! thank you for all you do for cats! 😻

I discovered using a piece of paper towel to grab the pull tab makes it much easier to open the container. My kitties love it & their favorite flavor is salmon. It's especially the way to go for older cats who have lost some teeth

Yay! So glad Sheba gets thumbs up. I found it to be the best food to feed special needs cats that have difficulty eating, chewing or swallowing…it’s the creamiest one I’ve found, and they love it. I agree about packaging and how hard it is to open packages…annoying.

For all of us seniors that have a hard time with the containers I have a little tiny pair of pliers needlenose pliers I hook it around that little something that you're you're open it with and I twisted around and it peels right off so get yourself a little pair of needle-nose pliers it works great makes it much easier

My 2 cats loved this when they lived outside. At that time, I didn't get much information on the ingredient levels, so I usually fed these cats Sheba and Fancy Feast. After I adopted those cats, we all had a really hard time in the transition period because those cats were so used to Sheba. (I wanted to avoid gums and Caramel as much as I could.. Either Tapioca starch or Agar was a boundary) Now my cats are eating Ziwi Peak, Lotus, and Rawz as their main diet, but when my cat gets tired of other foods, I will definitely save Sheba for the last choice.

my cat with LCL loved this food, definitely feline-approved! I loved the packaging, I found it very easy to open and easier to deal with than cans. I loved the "perfect portions" as my LCL baby often couldn't eat a whole can in just a few days, so Sheba was great.

I was using Sheba for awhile. One of my cats is picky with his wet food, and it was one of very few he would actually finish eating (others he eats about 1/4-1/2 before he just stops). Sadly, I did experience several packages with the green discoloration, and it really worried me that it was contaminated or maybe not stored properly. It was the main reason I stopped buying it. If it seems to have stopped, I would be happy to pick it up again. My cats really do love this brand!

I've been using Sheba for my full grown 6 lbs cat for about 4 months now and she loves it. I see comments everywhere (amazon, target, petco, etc.) about how hard the containers are to open and I disagree, opening a Sheba product is as easy as opening a yogurt container... so anyone struggling probably struggles to open yogurt too? Personally, I gravitated towards Sheba because I wanted to avoid opening metal cans. I have as a small cat and she eats smaller portion sizes so each half is a perfect portion for her and it overall reduces unnecessary waste. When I used to buy her cans I used to throw out so much of it away because it doesn't stay as fresh once open, even in the fridge.

I bought Sheba today at Kroger for $1.50 for one of those twin packs (2 servings). The feeding instructions say to feed your cat 3-4 servings per 5 lbs of body weight per day. The average cat like my cat weighs 10 lbs. So that's 6-8 servings (3-4 twin packs) per day which would cost $4.50-$6.00 per day per cat...OUCH! I know this vid is 2 years old, but if what you said was true ($1.50 per day), that's a 300%-400% increase in 2 years! That's $135 to $180 per month to feed one cat. How can most people afford this?

it used to be 62 cents, they raised price many times in the last 2 years. Just give one serving a day and keep dry food for the rest of the day. It contains collagen questionable sources, in a long run might cause cancer, my cats do NOT look healthy when they eat too much Sheba.

PLEASE read: Many people mistakenly under feed their cat when feeding Sheba. A normal healthy indoor 10 pound cat needs to consume at least 200 calories a day to maintain weight. Each pod of food contains between 38 and 42 calories (depending on flavor). Which means they should eat 5-5.5 pods of food (depending on flavor) minimum.

Our 22 year old who passed last October wouldn’t touch Sheba no matter how hard we tried. Nor would my 20 year old we lost in 2014. It used to come in tin foil packaging in the U.K. There was no fresh food movement when they were kittens but I’m glad there is today and I won’t be offering it to the brothers I have now.

Thank you for this informative video. I BUY SHEBA my cat and kittens like it. I noticed discoloration in some packages that i bought at Wal-Mart closest to Queens NY I bought some at other Wal-Marts and Targets and they were fine.

Sheba is the only wet foot my cat eats in one sitting. Although she LOVES it, and it’s budget friendly, i HATE that plastic waste that comes with it, i really wish they make their packaging more sustainable.

I fed my cat a combo of Sheba and Purina Beyond for the first 1.5 years after adopting her. She is a bit picky and really seems to prefer paté, the smoother the better. She also won't touch anything that has beef in it for some reason. So I mostly fed her Sheba but threw in some Beyond for variety a few times a week. I liked the limited ingredients and low carbs of their patés, as well as the high moisture content. My cat also absolutely loved the chicken recipe. She'd eat the turkey just fine, but she went completely nuts for the roasted chicken and liver. I really loved the convenience of not having to store half empty cans in the fridge. I never had trouble opening the packets, though once I did get a pack where the foil hadn't been sealed right, and it did get greenish and moldy. When my spouse got a new job and a significant raise, I decided to go premium with her food, so I've moved over to Tiki Cat Velvet Mousse, which she loves as much as the Sheba, has an even higher moisture content, and comes in extra convenient single serve pouches. I'm not completely thrilled with some of the additives in Tiki Cat, but it's slightly better than Sheba and my formerly too-skinny cat has gained an appropriate amount of weight on it, which she wasn't able to achieve on Sheba alone. But she did really love it, and I wouldn't hesitate to give it to her again in a pinch.

This is the only food my 17 yr old hyperthyroid cat will eat with crushed up methimazole meds in it. My vet calls it "junk food for cats" but since getting her meds in her is vital & she also gets purina dry food in her diet I feel it's worth it. Her bloodwork shows that she is healthy & her thyroid is now under control. I will say I definitely agree with the packaging issues!! Most days I do wear some of the sauce & I have even sliced my fingers pretty badly trying to pry open the containers. But it's a risk I'm willing to take to keep her around awhile longer! 😻

Then I was using hartz lickable treats but they were hard to find for awhile & when they finally became available again they must've changed the formula & she wouldn't touch it! 😖 Luckily I tried the Sheba & success!! She is on 10mg pills 2x daily so they are way too big to hide any other way!

When I first got my cat I used to feed her sheba and she loved it, my only problem was the amount each Container had, she would never get full with it and I always had to open Both to give her an appropriate portion. I had to switch her to a different brand but would love to switch back as long as they make them into cans instead, also my cat loves their meat sticks

Orijen & Sheba are the 2 most best cat foods for my kittycat, Bluey (ESH tuxedo she-cat). They're the only ones she can eat without having to puke on the carpet!

I personally find the packages very easy to open, although it is possible that they might have changed their packing since this review was posted. I’ve never had an issue with discoloration on the food either.

My kitty looks just like the one in the video. She loves Sheba but has become particular with preference (mainly chicken & turkey cuts in gravy and also pate). After slicing my fingers several times, I've learned to hold the container in a paper towel and slowly pull back the cover This avoids splash and cuts. I also run hot water over the package for a minute to warm up the contents prior to serving. I supplement Sheba with Purina Pro Plan Focus Indoor Care Salmon & Rice Formula. This combo makes for a happy, healthy 😺!!

I have two cats - one extra picky and the other who'd eat just about anything. I bought 30 different kinds of cat food for my picky cat to choose from, and he chose Sheba. He seems happy and has no health problems. :)

I use it for all of my cats. Even the ones with stomach issues have no issues eating sheba. I especially love the plastic containers. I don't have to dirty any dishes to feed the cats. They are easy to open and the cats come running when they hear them being snapped apart. Not sure why people have issues opening them or how people are finding discolored food. I use a lot of sheba daily and never a issue. I suppose some need something to complain about. As for nutritional value my cats blood work has all come back with no deficiencies so I have no reason to change their diet. I rescue animals. I have 30 parrots that take up most of my time so having a quick feeding option that gives me no issues to feed my cats is a huge deal for me time and money wise. Very thankful to sheba for being around!

In response to people saying there is a wet food shortage, I live in the Midwest and have yet to see the shortage. I've seen stock low and flavors out but not all completely out.

My cats prefer this brand but will only eat the trout flavor. For awhile I was unable to get it but recently it is available trough Chewy and Amazon. I agree that opening this container are a challenge. I have actually tore open a thumb nail once.

I, and the girls, are very happy with Sheba. They have always been eager to get their noses into it. It appears to be well suited to cats' needs at a reasonable price. I find the packages no more difficult to open than the average canned product, and the sharp crack of breaking the tubs apart sends a clear message to the cats that dinner is served. (Also, when they sneak out the back door and don't want to come back in, that sound brings them running from wherever they are.)

My 8 year old fur son loves Sheba wet food and Iams senior (green bag) and hairball control (blue bag) dry foods. For treats he enjoys Purina whisker Lickins, Purina dental treats, any wet treat that comes in a tube, and Fancy Feast savory cravings cat chocolate.

My rescue Siamese will only eat the Sheba cuts. NOT the pate which I had to try when the stores ran out of the cuts a couple years back. She also eats Rachel Ray Nutrish Indoor. Figured it was better for her than the Meow Mix she had been eating before I got her, and still affordable.

Our car doesn’t like dry food and we tried whiskas wet food. She doesn’t like it much. And then i watched the sheba commercial and i tried it to my cat and she really like it. Her feeding bowl is always clean.

Hi Diane, you can learn more about Friskies in our written review. allaboutcats.com/friskies-cat-food-review As for indoor cat foods, I generally don't think that there is much legitimacy to the "indoor food" label. Indoor cats are carnivores, just like those who live outdoors, and the high levels of fiber and carbohydrates often seen in "indoor foods" don't really seem necessary. I would opt for a species-appropriate, carnivore-oriented food instead. Calorie control and exercise should be able to keep your cat's weight under control better than any special "indoor" diet. My cat is 7 and was throwing up her dry food, the vet says she needs dental work so I’m saving up for it, but I switched to these since I can’t get to petco now and she loves them!! Eats them up quick and if I do just a half of one I don’t even have to mush it up for her she will eat it!

I've been feeding my cats Sheba for about a year now is a daily night cap for them. My cats LOVE it. They look forward to it every single night. And I personally don't have an issue the packaging, rarely have an issue getting them open. Never had an issue with food coming in green, either. The twin pack is very beneficial, that way I don't have to manual split the serving between my two cats. Other than the recent stock issues, I've had nothign but a positive experience.

Funny thing with my cat she loves sheba but will reject her fav flavors depending on which store they were purchased. it puzzles me so instead of wasting cash on food i just get fussie cat and she always eats that.

I used to feed the boys Sheba when it came in cans. They even gave you a lid to use for after you opened the can. I don't like the tubes because I have trouble opening it. I spilled it all over the counter

one of my cats is super picky & the other is a trash can (eats anything lol) so i can at least try a bunch of things knowing if the one won't eat it, the other will I am trying several brands trying to open the picky one's horizons. Haven't tried Sheba but they love the Sheba chewy stick treats♥

I'm a bit confused about the plastic twin packs, in my country there's mostly Sheba pouch bags (shredded in jelly is what I currently have). Do they not have those at all in the US?

I tried so may brands and my cat will only eat Sheba Turkey Pate. She also likes the Salmon Pate but only occasionally, maybe when she is bored with turkey. She did love the Rachel Ray PEAK wetlands chicken, but that apparently has been discontinued.

interestingly sheba has many trademark sub brands like rich, deluxe, fine, fine flakes and perfect portions. we dont get perfect portions in my country and its hard to find reviews on rich, fine and deluxe.

I tried giving my cat Sheba (Turkey). She now refuses all other food xD We should test if Sheba has heroin in it or something because my cat is like a crack addict for it. She does eat dryfood too but if she doesn't get Sheba she gets visibly upset, sad and angry.

Indeed the plastic twin packs are a total pain in the ass!!!! Also noticed the ingredient Animal Plasma in a recent Sheba seems they recently started putting it in the food. Btw is Sodium Nitrite (for food color preservation) cancerous??? I've seen a documentary saying it's cancerous for humans

Hi there, that's a good question, but unfortunately, I don't have an equally good answer. From what I understand, sodium nitrite can react with compounds in your cat's food to form nitrosamines, which do show carcinogenic effects. It seems that companies use additives, like vitamins C and E, to mitigate that reaction. That said, I haven't been able to find any good information on whether or not this actually reduces the risk of ill effects from eating a food that contains this preservative. I know you've posted in the All About Cats forum before, so if you like, I'd encourage you to post about this there. I'd be interested in seeing what our experts have to say. Thanks for being here!

@Diana Moore We know but she doesn't like canned dog food, however, she does love fish. She weighs a fit 88 lbs. and she goes on a long morning walk with her daddy every day, so we figured that just a little serving of Sheba each day would be fine for her. We also feed a feral cat on our property because she hunts rodents, so it all works out.
