Being Dutch, our parents took us approximately 30 miles from home and left us to find our way home. Now this was in the 70's so the world was a safer place.

Want to see everything, meet people I love, create worldwide friendships, eat amazing food. I love air travel for its adventure. I'm leaving for vacation in 2 weeks. I already have my clothes, toiletries, and electronics cables packed. I'm taking a train from Missouri to DC, the first vacation I've taken in 14 years. But I have always planned my packing. Once at the destination, though, I have ideas of what I want to do, but don't plan that. It must be nice to be able to arrive late, miss your flight, and pay extra for that. But I have to save money for the privilege of traveling.

We have to be 2 hours before our flights in Australia. I love being early for a flight....I'm a people watcher and I love to look in the stores. Coffee etc....I am already on a holiday at the aeroport before leaving. Hate to be stressed by being late. I'm with you Sheena. .

If I feel like listening to something that is relatable but not all the other crap on KZfaq that's depressing, I relisten to the podcast episodes just to keep my brain from going crazy with my ADHD. I stay at home and just work on making tumblers so you guys keep my brain occupied. I switch between moods of listening to music or listening to stuff on youtube. So you guys probably have at least 10 or 15 extra views just from me alone on all the episodes 😅. I love your guy's humor and how relatable you are. Plus all the tiktok's and shorts lol. I rewatch those when I need a laugh or to mentally feel better. Thank you for what you do!

At 16 I spent the summer working with house painters I spent a portion of the money that Christmas break taking a bus from San Antonio to Chicago where an aunt and uncle lived Executives working at the Sears Tower Loads of fun Even had an entire afternoon downtown on my own Took a train to Milwaukee on my own from there to visit the rest of family But that was 84 things were more lax then Love you guys

I am from India and we as a family have travelled in our car like crazy ,95% of our travel is unplanned like my husband is working till 1am and we decide to visit our parents who live 420 kms away and we pack our bags and 2 kids at that moment and leave the house at 5am . It's really fun and if I forget any clothes or shoes i always get a chance to buy new ones .

I love the idea of not stressing, and living in a go with the flow way, learning new things as you go. However, I am so far from that I am definitely with Sheena on this, but the concept makes sense to me and I am going to try to lean a little more Trids way. At least having that mentality will help me when things do go ary!

Thought I'd show Sheena some love- I would also freak out about sending my kids... and I struggle going late- but I wish I went more with the flow- my family also always traveled as a family.

When I was 4 my grandfather passed away and I had to travel by air alone while my parents were in two different states I had 2 connecting flights then and I managed just fine..yes things could have gone possibly wrong my point is it's best to experience such moments by choice rather than when under duress...so that tomorrow if your kid is complelled to make harsh decision and no parent/guardian is around then they are more capable of doing what's right

Minnesotans, such as myself, usually HURRY to get there so we can sit and wait once we are there. We do this for flights, movies, concerts etc... Always early. Less stress.

Seriously Trid, in the 70’s they didn’t have those damn tags for unaccompanied minors and my brother and I flew all the time by ourselves all over the US. We are both still here.

i have to take Sheena's side. for my trips to Vietnam i'm always getting to the airport 3-4hrs early & if i'm traveling within the US, about 2-2.5hrs early. i wanna avoid the rush, long lines, etc. after getting there early i just relax, put the earbuds in, grab a snack, etc.

I am packing during the week before the trip. I wash and dry the clothes and fold them directly on the luggage. I do that for me and my children. My husband usually does his luggage just before we leave. There s absolutely no time for bathroom or food time in his plans. I always saved the day

I once deliberately went in late for an exam just to see if I can bribe the examiner to let me in. Best day of my life and I learnt a new skill(communication & bribery) that day. I got in too

I'm from LA, so my airport of reference growing up was LAX. 4 hrs for an international flight and 2 for anywhere in the USA. Now that's what I do regardless of what airport I'm traveling out of.

I also pack my bags like 1-2 hours before heading to the airport. And I aim to reach the airport about 1.5 hours before the flight. I agree with not being able to pack earlier because I won't remember whats in the bag and have to re-check everything.

It depends on the airport on how early I get. The airport I live near is a national airport and you can show up 45 mins before departure but if I’m going to DFW I’m showing up 2-2 and 1/2 hours early

Hahahaha Sheena, there are sooo many people like PATOUS MCGORE here!😂😂 I always pack the morning of my trips. Funny enough, my partner is like Sheena and am like TRID. I also am with TRID about kids traveling, I had adventures like him, traveling alone with my younger brother since when I was 13 😂😂

I prefer to be at the airport 2 hours early just in case, pack the night before, and I meal prep on Sundays. LOL

I get to the airport an hour before my flight. Packing depends, if I'm excited about the trip I'll be packing days in advance. Of I'm not excited, I'm waiting until the last minute, day of I'll pack.

When I was 14 I was exploring Berlin by myself during daytime when my dad was at some conference. I knew a a bit of common phrases in German and English😂 I learned lots but I would not do it to kids today. My brother was traveling alone when he was 13 by ferry and boat from Åland to southern Sweden. This was way before cellphones etc were a thing.

I have a separate travel-toiletries bag, so I don't have to think about that the day I leave. I can leave in 15 minutes, but I prefer to be packed a day or two in advance.

Pack the night before. Anything I forget I'll remember before next morning. Else, it's just toothbrush, phone charger, and razor, out the door with my carry on and backpack.

We did not have money for vacations, but my parents gave me a pocket of tokens and i traveled the nyc subway and busses by myself at 12 years old.

I get what Trid is saying about people in work who always get straight As and always plan and organise not really being able to cope well when the goalposts move. I do think these people are very academically capable and have a lot to offer, but I also think there is a lot to be gained from real life problem solving from a young age. Maybe there's a balance for very young kids with travel, like you are with them but ask them what bus/train do you think we need to get if we want to go to this place. I used to travel with my Mam in my young teens for holidays.. We would sit every night with the guide book and figure out our plans together and how to make the best of our time. Then if something cropped up along the way like maybe we needed to prebook but didn't realise then we would revise the plan and I found that really good for developing those skills. Then I travelled a lot with a youth orchestra. I'm from Ireland and we traveled to New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diago, San Francisco, Rome, London.... There were 150 of us under the age of 18 and maybe 20 chaperones as part of our own group so they would give us meeting points and say go do what you want meet us here at this time and we knew if we weren't there we would be in trouble so the system worked very well. It gave all of us independence. Some friends I've travelled with as an adult I literally do not know how they manage to even find their cars in the morning. I always thought those skills I learned as a young teenager everyone had but they really don't and it it getting worse these days so I think anything we can do to equip young people with life skills is necessary

In some ways I travel like TRID. I pack right before I leave the house for my trip. However, I do leave for the airport 2hrs before my flight like Sheena because I have missed a flight before.

I prefer getting to the airport early, so I can relax and people watch. I especially enjoy watching the people who get there at the last minute, and now they are running through the airport in a panic trying to catch their flight. 🤣

I used to fly alone when I was 7-9 years old. No 'neck badge' or 'companion,' just a kid on my own. Times were different. The whole premise of Home Alone 2 was strange to me. Trid-getting in a suitcase is dangerous in the current days; Sarah Boone will prove that to us.

I'm an early packer but I'm always cutting it close getting there. Got no other reason than my time management, anxiety, adhd, brain fog, and mom brain create chaos and I am never on time. I've told my husband to just tell me the time is 30-60min earlier than it really is and I will be closer to on time 😂😂
