One thing I noticed with vengeful slash is that you can cancel your light and heavy attacks, so if you know an attack is coming you can maintain some offense before switching to the counter. I honestly have been sleeping on that move along with gutting skewer. This is one of those scenarios that I get annoyed at not having access to 6 skills.

Shield Pummel with end game gear is really OP. Dragons get staggered after just a few Shield Pummels to the heart.

Really wish we could equip 8 skills rather than 4, 4 is just not enough. Imagine playing Hogwarts legacy with 4 spells

Gutting skewer is just op

I do miss having shield skills not cluttering up my sword skills. Kinda think they could’ve rolled a few of them into core skills.

Whenever I'm playing any melee class, my top priority is getting enemies knocked off-balance, or knocked down, preferably. Any staggered or KO'd enemy is left open for damage from your heavy attack or, even better, Gutting Skewer. For those who don't know, knocked down boss-type monsters are also valid targets for these "finisher" attacks. For all these reasons, Shield Pummel is a in my kit whenever I'm running Fighter. Shield Pummel followed by Gutting Skewer is basically a guaranteed game-over for anything that isn't a boss monster. Very satisfying against larger hobgoblins or armored saurians (make sure you aim your Skewer at their tail area). Gutting Skewer is also awesome at applying elemental effects to boss monsters when climbing on them. My suggested loadout, if you are not trying to control aggro actively (usually just putting on the Provocation augment is enough), is Bust Strike, Shield Pummel, Gutting Skewer, and Vengeful Slash. Explained most of these, but Vengeful Slash is what I use when facing a large horde of enemies. As long as you are not getting attacked from behind, Slash will counterattack right through anything, even multiple incoming attacks, for HUGE damage. I like Flawless Guard, mechanically, but I just can't get over how stupid it looks. I also kind of disagree about Cloudward Slash. It's one of the better skills, no doubt, but every team should have at least one ranged specialist to deal with aerial enemies so that you can bring a more impactful skill.

Honestly fighter feels more like mystic knight then the old fighter, all the old skills kind seemed lowerer while the defense skills function closer to mystic knight in DD:DA, like the element repost and such. Alot of defense, and response attacks, vrs the more attack focused to DD:DA fighters. I miss my cannon 😢

The biggest nerf the full moon slash got is its now loose the i frame, or maybe there is still i frame but for sure not as long as i frame in dd1, like in dd1 you can i frame from any attack using full moon slash, making it basically sword user dodge, the same with riotous fury, the dd1 counter part is dragons maw, and it got i frame for the entire animation, so its strong and safe. And yeah, the gutting skewer is basically dire gouge in dd1, in it still feels efective

The shield bash is a must-have when you're using a sword. You can't do anything against certain enemies with slash damage unless they're staggered or you're hitting their weak point directly

I always use the provocation passive + ring of disfavor combo to keep aggro on me, and then vengeful slash everything. Feels SO satisfying

Launchboard is also pretty good in traversal, sometimes take a sec, but you can equip pawn with board and to traverse high cliff edges and such

After watching this I'm considering playing fighter again. Honestly dropped Fighter the second I maxed the Vocation, watching this made me realise it has a load of potential.

Shield pummel does really good blunt damage if you have dragon's dogma and the counter damage increase rings on.

I use two rings that minimize your stagger and knockdown. Huge help. I hate getting staggered..

Question, does the counter from Vengeful Slash count as a deflect? Like, would the ring that boosts strength after a deflect proc with that skill?

I think fighter is overlooked often. I've only used 2 wakstones in 2 playthroughs playing as fighter most of the time.

fighter for me is top tier, you can taunt or you can make your primary be a taunter, fun and strong skills (counter, flurry of slashes punish, incredible defense, good mount damage and good minion grab) what else do you want? it was my fav class in the first one, in this one i think bandit is a close contender, too good to have both fire weapons and a pawn with another element (usually ice) to face everything in the game

I played the first playthrough with all classes to level them up, only to return to the fighter on the new game plus. Their only weakness are slimes. Unless you allways carry a elemental weapon.

How good are pawns at using Divine Defense?

I’m trolling right now by not using a shield at all. Just a sword with a damage only augment build. That’s how you separate the boys from the Men.

Can't wait to see magic archer, I know it has OP damage skills, but it has some skills that I think are literally slept on. Pun intended for one of its skills 😂. I don't use martyr arrow, ricochet arrow seems to have been buffed since the first game. But soporific arrow is probably my favorite skill for pretty much every boss, except chimera seems to be immune or at least highly resistant because of its 3 heads. Great for bringing flyers down, even works on dragons. My only complaint is that pawns aren't very patient when you use it. Soporific arrow likely would be amazing on warfarer with another weapon good at doing massive damage to a weak spot. Head shot with it is usually a 1 hit sleep proc, 2 or 3 if you miss the weak spot

I never use launch either but it's good to find treasure you can't reach.

Riotous Fury looks and feels very good, but it seems to barely do any damage compared to other vocations. A charged normal from a Warrior has about the same knockdown in my experience, and Thief's Skullsplitter deals something like 2x as much damage when hitting vitals (for a fraction of the stamina cost and time commitment). When I use it against a Rattler and it doesn't stagger them or do more than 1/4 their health bar, it feels like I'm wasting a slot, and when I get the opportunity to use it on a downed Drake or Ogre, I'm always feeling like it lets me down in terms of damage. I feel like the better use of your stamina is to latch onto a weak point and start Gouging, or maybe even spam Tusk Toss.

Great video, surprise to see many defensive skills at the top. I knew they were good but I would assume since they did little to no damage they would be overlooked.

Flawless guard is basically a "we have full moon slash from dd1 at home" cuz it does basically the same thing full moon did back in the day wich is avoiding dmg man i miss being the god

I would roll a fighter if the enemies were harder that i needed to be more defensive. It looks fun! At this point I'm playing warrior and clobbering fools before they can do much.

My dream would be a shield throw skill, Captain America style. I'd love if it bounced off of targets and came back to you, upgraded version ricocheting to more targets. That would be the perfect ranged option for fighter

Has there been a determination as to the best class in DD2 yet or are they all equally good? I know they all can get you through the game fine just curious if there was a hands down best.

Life taking arrow on Magkck Archer is completely broken. You can shoot it through walls and clear caves and hordes eithout having to think. On top of that it demolishes undead enemies. It will kill a skeleton and destroy their skull at the same time and it absolutely rinses the Dullahan

The mystic spear has the best defensive ability. It can protect you from everything and not consume your vitality during use. You just need to activate it before the attack. It's perfect against big bosses, in addition to being able to atack while you have the magic shield
