A selection of trains filmed at twilight passing this pair of automatic half barrier level crossings near Petersfield. These level crossings are connected by a small side road and are about a quarter of a mile apart, and despite the side road's name ("Long Road") it only takes four minutes to walk on average. Both level crossings still have their Mk.1 twin-arm half barriers, though as you may notice, tell-tale signs that these might not be lasting much longer are evident as a lot of ground work has been done to prepare for full renewals within the next year or so as part of re-signalling.
It was starting to get pretty dark when these were filmed, and a snippet of the second featured video has been cut as an oncoming car's headlights dazzled the camera and caused a focussing issue, which had thankfully gone by the time the train arrived. Fortunately, there is a bit more ambient light at Kings Fernsden Level crossing, which made it easier to film in the dark. It's also a little surprising how the alarm set-up at this crossing has lasted for so long (there's two different types of alarm here; a yodalarm and an E2S alarm, quite an odd set-up).
In case you may be wondering, I managed to take the units' numbers from Real Time Trains as South Western Railway have the 'Know your train' feature on that website, despite the fact that none can be seen in the video itself.
Thanks for watching!
