The marking pencil spacer and the double back tape holding your mounting bracket in the correct position were great tips. Nice job. Thanks.

If you use the thing with the double sided tape, make sure it's not too strong. I had some trouble removing the brackets again with just the tape ;)

Let this be a lesson to all parents out there. Obviously, and I do mean OBVIOUSLY, Marius has parents that support and encourage and love him. That takes effort and is thankless a lot of times. But if you put in the work, you will be rewarded. Maybe that's just a shelf to some, but every time they see it they will know it's a "thank you, job well done." What more could you want from life?

great job both on the fastening clamps/aluminum slides and on the scribing of the shelf sides, how about making a homemade profiler made of hardwood and with a clamping method securing the "fingers" will stay fixed when you are done copying the shape you want? sounds like a good project for other jobs you can run into, perhaps even making it big enough to handle larger surfaces?

Nice Work Marius. I have never used one of those fancy contour gauges. And I have done lots and lots of contour work. Your method is one of the easiest. For larger spaces between the piece to be marked and the piece to be fitted to I usually cut a marking block equal to the largest distance away from the two and mark it out as you did. Gives you a line that you can directly cut instead of requiring a transfer piece. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the interesting videos.

Really nice clean work here. I do have one small suggestion. If prior to the final installation you were to place those wood spacers, the ones you use to drill through the metal, back inside the metal and then glued your final shelf to that piece of wood (using your final installation as the clamping force), you're finished product would have a great deal more wood for the screws to hold on to, resulting in a stronger more durable shelf. As the Shelf is now your overall holding strength is about the diameter of 4 pencils, which is quite a lot until they go over a speed bump what's some books up on that shelf. If you do as I suggest you'll end up with many times more of that of support. In any event, it looks pretty for now.

Fantastic method as usual Marius. You definitely have a fresh unique way of approaching challenges that is inherent to you. You inspired me back when you did a review on your Hammer saw to buy one from Felder. So a few years and a bunch of saving later I've just ordered the Winner from the Hammer range. I'll make sure they know it was because of you that I'm spending the money on their saw, hopefully you get a kick back or some free Felder stuff in return.

You could have used a piece of L shaped extrusion too if the wood can't handle the stress of the shelf and load. I don't think it will break, but it might due to it experiencing dynamic loading from driving and people moving within the camper.

Hi, Marius! I love that mounting solution! And I always love your accuracy. But there is a mishap in your grain direction, I think. With that cross-grain glueup you will have always a 10% difference in movement. And your side pieces can't handle much load. If the grain would go up instead of sideways there would be much less stress and it could handle more load. I think last thing is significant in a vibrating environment. Regards, Etna.
@ErikBongers
@ErikBongers 5 жыл бұрын
The only thing I'm a little worried about is the stress points. All the weight goes to those 4 bolts and there's not a lot of wood above them (1cm?). You also routed most of the wood away. Might have been better to have just cut 2 thin grooves for a perfect fit of the aluminium U-extrusion. Or, now I come to think about it, have a T extrusion and just cut 1 thin groove in the the wood.

Since you attached the aluminum to the existing shelf with through bolts, not sure I see the point in the fancy fastening system. Run some screws down from the upper cabinet. Nice job anyway! 😀

Absolutely right ... four 8mm threaded inserts two on each side with bolts from above would have worked also.
@aliasks6559
@aliasks6559 5 жыл бұрын
Up there was probably only room for a washer and a nut and you can hold a nut in place with pliers and drive the bolt in from below. Being him I´m sure he found the best possibility for what he had to work with. If you look at 7.27 you can see the place he fastens the shelves to is kinda under the other shelf so he cant reach from up, same on both sides.
