Danios are fantastic dithers, I know this is a year ago , but I would just keep them in there, great video🙂👍🏻

Many people leave danios and rainbows in after cycling with shell dwellers the only thing is if you want to breed them sometimes they are a problem but usually some fry still survive.

This video was fascinating to me on so many levels ! Isn’t it wonderful when a hobby unites three generations in a family 💞 💕 ♥️ 😀?

I have a 75 gallon sitting empty in my living room for 2 years waiting for all of the pieces of a Tanganyika biotope to come together. I had wanted black calvus, Julie's (regani) multies or caudopuncs, and cyps. I found out that male cyps form a 48" 3D territory and when females enter the males believe they are ready to mate thus easily exhausting females unless the tank is a very long one. This has caused me hesitation in regards to keeping the cyps, since it is difficult to purchase a group of just males. On another note, since it is commonly thought that when the rift lakes formed they were originally oceanic in nature having gotten cut off by a shift in the Earth's crust, you could consider your tank as it stands a precursor biotope. 😁

I wouldn't take a leleupi out. That will just focus the aggression further and make it more likely one will get beaten to death. Pretty soon you'd have only one left. I would add 5 more and they'll work great. Also, cylindricus is a conspecific of leleupi. If you add one it will be beaten to death shortly.

Dainos are from Asia. I've used them as dither fish in mbuna tanks too. And as far as the types of shells, if your grandson likes it, that's all that matters.

I think that if the current set up is working for you then you should keep those fish in there. Also I would argue that putting in a seashell that your grandson wants in there makes the aquarium itself mean much more and look nice at the same time.

Danios are from Southeast Asia. They look good with the Africans.

Hi, I have a 12.5 gallon tank, and I have two Ocellatus fishes (two females). They’ve settled in very well. Sir, what else could I keep with in the same tank that’ll swim mid/top of the water please? Lovely tank by the way! I absolutely love the marine rock! The driftwood tans my water I find it nicer against my danios in another tank I have. I took added shells from our beach and surfing breaks. I love your tank!

I am really enjoying your channel. Just started a saltwater tank, so I am watching the species spotlight series. Never done saltwater before, though been doing freshwater all my life off and on. I agree with other comments, leave it since it is working. Definitely leave the wood out. I don't think you need more rock either. If you like the Danios, leave them, however if you get a chance to acquire a top dwelling Tanganyikan then go for it.

Lelupi and cylindricus will fight. Lelupi is more agressive and will go after the similar body shape. I've had to put my lelupi in time out a few times

Great video, I’ve been keeping them for around 10 yrs now, and the escargot shells dissolve, I use shells from LFS for hermit crabs and others like you have, the dither fish is a good ideal cause it’s hard to keep more than 2 males without them killing them even with the dither fish, I have a rock pile covered in Anubis that I have shells stuffed down in diff areas for the younger males, they’re much easier to catch if they have a shell to go into, you just put your thumb over it and remove them. Lol

The tank looks good. I started off with sea shells only recently changed to escargot shells but my ocellatus don’t move the shells. I have a bit of bog wood in my 4ft tank with Anubis on it. I think it wouldn’t be enough room for Cyprichromis but Julidochromis is a good option. The only thing with the bigger shells if the ocellatus have fry the lelupi and bigger fish would be able to get into the shells .

Quick question how are you going to get babies from the gold ocellatus to grow with all the other fish around?

And if the danios work in the group, leave them. I have a mix of fix that the die hard tang keepers weep at. But they work well together so why mess with it?

Hi, I actually think it's a quite boring set up. Ad more of the rock and hide all the tecnical stuff and the wall behind. Then put a divider of rock in the center so the fish can't se from one side to the other. Do not put in another substrate egglayer, get some mouthbrooders instead. Take out the danios and add some Cypriochromis who then will be under the surface. Then You have fish in all layers. If You also add some Anubias on the rocks just under the surface the fry have some hidingplaces. When the ocellatus will start to breed You need some hidingplaces because they can be quite agressive. Good luck with great fish.
