Stumbled on your site. Great stuff. I think what the critic is referring to is the JATP concerts where they had tenor sax 'battles' which included quite a bit of 'tasteless' honking but it sure as hell was exciting. I caught a JATP concert in Houston in 1957 and Flip was one of the battlers. A real treat for this alto sax playing, jazz fan high school senior. Thanks for your enthusiasm and taste.

Do you get problems from KZfaq for repeatedly showing copyrighted audio many times? How do?

Loved the flip-side on that first record! I'll have to look up and learn more about the Apollo label. I've never heard of it. What was the book that you mentioned in the beginning that you used to do research with? Really happy to see Arnett Cobb on this episode too. I bought a copy of Smooth Sailing not too long ago too and have been diving into his Prestige catalog more and more. Appreciated the extra bio info about each of the leaders too!

PS do you have any rhythm and blues or jump blues in your 78 collection?, I have wine only Harris, hey Adams Lewis Jordan, Roy Milton, Roy Brown and his mighty Man among a few other one, many of these people have named were in jazz groups before ever recorded what many call pre rock and roll or rhythm and blues, Louis Jordan was part of Tinfiny 5 and several other jazz outfits before he hit the big time with his song Caledonia in 1945 or 46, Little Richard got his shouting and some of his mannerisms from Louis Jordan.
