In Duluth Minnesota we have a very large homeless population and Winters coming. For the first time in my life I've seen many tents in a lot of our parks and on the sides of the railroad tracks. It gets 30 below here in the winter and the shelters get full really quick and the rent here is getting really really high so we are getting more and more homeless people. The mayor of Duluth is advertising this as the San Francisco of the North but what she's not telling people is there are no jobs here unless you work in the medical industry or hospitality. I really hope we can get some form of shelter like you build here in Duluth. Thank you very very much for the work that you do it's a beautiful thing. Blessed be to you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

After watching so many videos on tiny homes and retrofitted school buses, vans and the like. They really missed some easy to manage design features. Like fold down desks, couches and the like. A couch can be made into a bed. A bed can be mounted on a platform, and use an analog pulley system to raise and lower the bed, and create a living space when the bed is not in use, like a fold down desk. They should have offset the door, so there could be a small counter for a mini sink, microwave or hot plate. Nice idea, but with the internet, there is no excuse for so much under utilized space.

Every positive step forward people make in helping others is ALWAYS worth it. I'm quite sure those who are currently homeless would appreciate someone valuing them, caring about their wellbeing and taking a step, or two, or........three, forward, in helping them towards a safe, secure, place to stay, that they can call home. Sure the long term goal might be a house or apartment, but as is the saying, "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". But, if people don't care about those around them, nothing will ever happen.

No insulation and no windows? Where do they go to the bathroom, prepare meals, take showers, etc.?

Having worked for a shed manufacture for almost 10 years I wonder why they went with a round roof design? Also, a shed manufacture could build that shed in like 3 or 4 hours and it would be built to similar standard like a house. It just appears the builders made this a lot harder than it needs to be. I admire their effort but why take so long to do something that can be done to a higher standard in a small fraction of the time? What am I missing here?

I can appreciate what Ed is doing. I don’t condone shanty towns. These are eye sores. Why build shacks for people to live in? Why can’t we have HGTV Contractor, Joanna Gaines or Property Brothers build out a historic building or any building with organic farming on premise. Separate non violent from violent offenders. Teach a trade to get people back on their feet. Have competent doctors and police on premise with Psychology degree and rotate help so these people don’t get burnt out. Teach people non violent communication skills and how to be in life long long term relationships in every area of one’s life.

Great job there are some people in our area that could really use these can you give some details about how you built sizes or do you offer plans for purchase i would like to build a couple for some friends i have that are in need of a place to stay i would be willing to buy them thanks for sharing i thank what you are doing is great

Why didn't they put installation in these little tiny houses it's like living a freezer. Plus you can't breathe properly. Because there is no window or a vent hole. Sad isn't it.

The problem with the tiny homes for the homeless is ….where to put them, and the dozens of related questions that follow from that main one (who gets to stay there? Forever? If problems arise, can they be evicted, etc? Not a criticism…just a reality and one that they seemed to have worked out, which is great.

Though we all appreciate the joint effort - without insulation and heating this comes across as a mere PR stunt for Rotary Clubs. 'Better than a tent' is not good enough and still humiliating to the homeless.

Are these now or will they ever be available for sale to the public? I live in Tornado Alley and cannot afford replacement insurance on my home; but I do have a tiny bit of savings. It would take a load of worry off my mind if I knew I could get something better than a tent or a toxic FEMA trailer after a disaster if that ever happens here. (So far not, due mainly to topography.) Zoning's pretty much non-existent in TinyTown anyway, and the land itself won't blow away.

People are more interested in the function/working stage of the shelters; who is going to be living in them and how the villages help the homeless. If you want to make vids about the building process then go right ahead, but give it a more accurate title. This video shows the structure being built and a FEW pictures of the homeless in front of it at the end.

No insulation? In Rochester's climate??? How about wash/restroom facilities? Heating? This might make the rotary feel better but it's not much help to the targets of the good deeds. The US needs to drill down on the causes of homelessness and provide actual indoor facilities for people who are the victims of drug use, bad upbringings, bad choices, etc. Capitalism is dog eat dog and sooner or later, we're all dinner. I have to wonder how many people commit petty crimes just to get arrested and provided with a bed and meals. I've lived in several locations where the homeless (or people pretending to be) are standing on the side of the freeway exists, begging. Finally moved to a place where you don't see that (Tennessee where begging has been declared illegal) - I have to presume anyone begging is arrested and placed indoors, in custody. It's a start but the solutions seem to be evading us.
