Crows poked holes in my tarp cover and then the wind took it down. Bought corrugated sheet metal at Lowe's. My frame is concreted into the ground on all four side and I have rebar every 4 ft along the sides.

I just bought the same building for my place, and the reason I bought this particular one is because I intend to do exactly the same thing you've done and I believe this is a decent frame assembly so when I finally put it up in a permanent location I will do exactly what you have done with yours. Nice job.

This frame is sturdy enough to hold the load. I did concrete all 4 corners and rebar down the sides because I had concerns about wind. I've had no problems at all holding up good. Good luck 👍

Thanks for sharing this. Like you, I was searching you tube to see if anyone posted a video showing some ideas to replace the original cover. The frame is solid but the cover of course keeps breaking down and tarps disintegrate too quickly, which is also not good for the environment. Tired of that. I want to figure out how to make a hinged door for both ends. Some great ideas here.

ShelterLogic Group it wouldn’t matter. I bought 2 of these buildings. One of the buildings the material cover split down the middle right at the year mark. The other building lasted about a year and a half and did the same failure, splitting down the middle. I checked on new covers from shelterlogic but it was as cheap to get metal and not worry. I did notice on shelterlogic web site they offer covers that are UV. The standard does not so all of the ones you buy in the big box stores are going to fail. I now wished I went ahead will metal buildings in the beginning.

@@pjkentucky I have a ten by ten by eight shed. that the original cover lasted about ten months. and now the wind has ripped it apart. I had a little difficulty trying to figure out how to contact the Shelter Logic company. but finally was able to get to their web site. and after navigating though the site. I was surprised to find that replacement covers were running up near the four hundred dollar mark. I did find one that was cheaper. but it was still more than I paid for the whole original shed. to me it doesn't make sense to buy another whole shed for the cover. especially when my frame is still in really good condition. and as far I can tell the cheaper cover would be a pretty much direct replacement. of the original cover I had, which meant I could only go about another ten months. before it would need to be replaced. which sort of leaves me with the options. either maybe try go with metal or take the shed down.

I did the exact same thing with my harbor freight building, only i put it on a treated framed floor and framed the ends. @@jasonjackson1848 I believe it is 20 foot long X 13 foot wide. I purchased it from menards, worked well for a few years, except for snow load. 3 things- 1) Install corrugated on top of the tarp that comes with it and buy a spray foam rig (Lowes) and spray the tarp as you go allowing the spray foam to expand between corrugated and tarp. 2) Stand corrugated vertically for the entire height of the "flat" sides for far increased weight bearing capacity. 3) brace 3/4 plywood on interior (sandwiching tarp and foam between plywood and corrugated and screw (w/ rubber washers) corrugated into plywood (length of screw is depth of corrugation + 3/4).🙄👍

I wonder how well FRP panels would work. They are reasonably priced at about $30 or more for 4x8 sheets. It's flexible but durable. I left a partial sheet outside for years after a client project and UV and weather have had no effect on it. Just put up a 10x10 ShelterLogic. We'll see how long the cover lasts.

I’ve started mine and have the first two rows up. I could only get 8x3 pieces. My question is how did you screw in the panels over the peak? It seems it’s too far to reach from a ladder next to the shed and not sure about putting ladder in the shed if I can reach that far.
@kyates98
@kyates98 6 жыл бұрын
poolboybiff1 I ran the peak row first but didn't screw it down all the way. I slid row 2 under slightly for overhang and then screwed threw both metal pieces to secure. Repeat the process. And yes I had to put the ladder inside to do this, doing one row on the right side then a row on the left side. Back and forth. Hope this make sense. Good luck

hey, this looks great. i have a couple questions if you don't mind. first, is it still holding up good, have you had issues with the screws coming loose and losing metal? do you live in a cold clime? i am up north and considering doing this, but am concerned with the snow sticking to it. also, what is the length of this shelter? when you bought metaldid you buy the sheets longer, say for instance 2- 12' pieces when you may only have 20' in length so you can have an overlap, or are say 2 10' pieces long enough to cover the 20' with a inch or 2 overlap in the center? thanks a lot for the video, I have been wanting to do this for awhile, and my cover is getting bad enough that it is not going to last much longer. i do not want to get a new cover because i have found that every one of these I have bought the seam glue comes undone on the end, and i have to fix it anyway.

I am wondering how well this held up to snow load? Ice? Did you have any incidents that required action to prevent leaks, or did you take any additional actions not posted in the video to deal with snow load? Did you ever try to remove the snow from the top, if so, what was the result? I live in Michigan myself and winter is just around the corner. I have one of these shelters I use for goat and cattle housing. I'm about to try this with my ShelterLogic 13'x20'x10' whose tarp tore after just over a year of use. I have mine lined with bull gates and livestock panels, secured by fence posts, to prevent the animals from rubbing on and pushing through the inside, with a gate on the end to secure animals there within when required. I want (and badly need) to make this conversion but if it collapsed from snow weight in the middle of the winter it would leave animals with no shelter before it could be repaired so I wanted to see if you could give me an idea of how well it did in this respect.

@normandumond4690
@normandumond4690 6 жыл бұрын
It is not, I did however use several tent stakes to secure it down. It's on the highest part of the pasture against the protective wind break provided by my forest. I was wondering mostly about the gap in between the poles, concerned snow load of a foot might cause it to collapse inwards. I do however see that you secured the metal over the remaining ends, did that last the test of time as well? The ends and their connection to the metal, or is that why you needed to use some spray foam to shore up the holes in those spots? If it were to rip, have you though about what you might build onto the ends to close it up once again?
@kyates98
@kyates98 6 жыл бұрын
Mine is very secure to the ground concrete on all 4 corners and rebar in between. All metal is overlapped and the screw is through both pieces. I got most leaks around those holes. Any gaps I filled with expanding foam and the screws I sprayed with flex seal. I dont think you have anything to lose. Good luck

Well it's not going to hold 1 or 2 ft of snow/ice so when he says it will hold and he gets 1/4 in of snow and says yes just fine I mean it's just small Lil poles hope no animals got hurt with sharp mettle roof falling on them being trapped under u said u live in Michigan on top of the hill On the outside looking in I would not put no animals inside of that in a winter storm I hope Common sense kicked in before that happened!!!

Back when I built this I went to Lowe's. 2x8 sheets of corrugated metal was around $10/per. Might be higher in this economy now. I spent around $300-350

Also, if you don’t mind one more question, did you consider the plastic version of these sheets instead of metal? And if so, what made you decide on metal as the final solution? Thanks

kyates great idea. I had a harbor freight tent last me 4 years and only ripped because of my stupidity. I bought a ShelterLogic as an upgrade pay 3x more and got 2 years. That’s what brought me to your channel. Thanks for sharing. Yours now seems lifetime strong. Do you get snow?

@@vtecbanger3180 yes but the last two winters haven't been that bad. I've been wanting a good foot of snow to do another update video. Maybe this winter it will happen.

Does this structure meet code at your local??

Phil Williams it's considered temporary storage so it doesn't fall under code. However mine is concreted in on all fours, and I drove rebar on all inside legs as well

Mine is not actually but I dont have any type of door on the front now. Even with the door on the front it was cooler with the metal roof.

Don't know where you're located but we get a lot of snow at times. I'd be worried about the accumulation on the roof with the corrugations holding onto it so it won't slide off.

well done, what gauge steel is that?, any sagging yet ? i believe u said 4 foot spacing ? what's your snow load, we can have a 4' snow accumulation so ill probably strap first then flip sheets (depending on how well they conform) to hopefully encourage snow to slip off with sun as mine is 35' by 85' = lots of weight lol ? any recommendation on steel manufacturer ? thanks !
