These four short hikes in Shenandoah National Park along Skyline Drive and parts of the Appalachian Trail are by no means the best hikes or the worst hikes, but just the ones we thought would be good. We definitely wish it hadn't rained and we could have hiked Old Rag Mountain.
This is the first episode of our Appalachian Mountain series where we took a two week road trip from Shenandoah National Park down the Blue Ridge Parkway and explored the Great Smoky Mountains. From hiking various portions of the Appalachian Trail up to summits and balds, to exploring majestic waterfalls and bluffs and historical mills and cabins deep within Appalachia, we definitely enjoyed seeing the beauty of America's National Parks.
Hike 1 - Mary's Rock Summit hike - 3.7 mile out and back - 1210 elevation gain (eighth highest peak in park)
Hike 2 - Stony Man Mountain Summit hike - 1.6 mile lariat - 800 foot elevation gain (second highest peak in park)
Hike 3 - Hawksbill Summit - 1.7 mile out and back - 690 foot elevation gain (highest peak in park)
Hike 4 - Little Stony Man hike - 0.9 mile out and back

Head to Bentonville, outside of Luray and hit up the Downriver canoe company. They shuttle you upriver on the Shenandoah River and its a relaxing trip back down. We saw turtles, blue herons, hawks, eagles. Pretty awesome trip for not much money. I think it was $60 for three people to canoe.

$30 for seven days is not bad at all. Are there facilities there, any hookups for RV's? Wow 3.7 miles guys that's a long hike. We are actually scheduling our hike to La Soufriere for this week. Oh boy 4.5 miles moderate to difficult hike. Wish us luck LOL wow 3k plus feet you guys are awesome. Nice views up there! Wow and the very next day you hiked on Stoney Man. Good for you! Were you sore after the first hike? Beautiful view when you reached the summit. The rolling mountains are lovely. Great hike guys!! Wow, three hikes in one day!! Why so many lol I couldn't do that lol All hikes had lovely views. We are afraid of having mist when we go on our hike. But I told Kenny I am only doing this hike once LOL Thanks for sharing. Love your choice of music for the video.
@MagellanandGreyhound
@MagellanandGreyhound 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they did have campground spots for RV hookups. I believe that is the case for all the campgrounds down the Skyline. And LOL you don't need to do all three in one day like we did - we are just crazy. All four aren't terrible at all. Mary's Rock is the hardest, but take your time and anything is doable. Good luck on your hike! I'm sure it will show up in a video :)

I think we have like 14 more videos coming out of this trip, so hopefully those can give you more ideas.
