The classic Dreamcast game was remastered and re-released yesterday. It's not a modern update, but a remaster of the original game. It definitely looks better and runs smooth. The game was revolutionary in its time but definitely shows its age now. For only $30, it's well worth it since you also get Shenmue 2.
In 1986 Yokosuka, Japan, teenage martial artist Ryo Hazuki returns to his family dojo to witness a confrontation between his father Iwao and a Chinese man, Lan Di. Lan Di easily incapacitates Ryo, and threatens to kill him unless Iwao gives him a mysterious stone artifact known as the dragon mirror. Iwao tells him the mirror is buried under the cherry blossom tree outside. As his men recover the mirror, Lan Di mentions a man he claims Iwao killed in China. He delivers a finishing blow and Iwao dies in Ryo's arms...

This game was so far ahead of it's time. I wasted so many hours of my life, no lifing this game when it came out on the Dreamcast. I was so immersed in it's world.

This was the first video game where you could openly explore I believe, especially when being able to talk to all these people. This game was a huge step for video games in general. It was very expensive to make as well.

It's not the first game to do this.... it's the first to be super intricate in open world perspective but not the first open world where you speak to people

Metal gear Solid I think was the real first step to gaming because it was betrayed like a movie with realistic game play and probably the game responsible for stealth combat to what we see in many games today.

I remember playing this game when I was really young my uncle had it in his room. I forgot what the gsme was called then one day I go into a retro games and it’s in the show case. I was so hype. Took me 5 years to remember what this game was called. It’s so nostalgic watching this

@@ThePrinceofElPaso If you can get passed the bad voice acting, its a great story. The voice acting in Shenmue 3 was purposely bad for nostalgic reasons but that's really my only issue with the game. Oh and now there's a weird hunger mechanic that I'm not too fond of but all in all, Pretty damn good story.

It's a shame they changed the voice of Lan di in III. They also changed Ren's but I didn't even notice as it was so similar.

3:21:06 POCKET SAND! Thanks for posting this bro, I've never been able to finish this game, it totally loses my interest and stomps all over it around the time you get the harbor job. I enjoy the story, I'm interested in seeing how things develop concerning Ryo's father, the eternal life elixir in the basement has me theorizing that he was some ancient master who's lived for thousands of years or something- but man, the ultra slow gameplay is sooooo boring. So I appreciate the upload. Though the adaptive brightness in your video is super distracting.

So he learnt quite a lot of useful techniques and mastered them in such short time and despite himself and his mate was all beaten up they still managed to take down an entire mad angels by the two of them with the right hand man being quite the difficult guy to fight. Now in Shenmue 2 I'm sure he improves even more so how on earth did such a man like Ryo struggled so much the low level thug leader yanlang who just have raw power but has like no real techniques and relies on just swinging around and just trying to grab and throw? With all these techniques Ryo gained and managing to take down thugs, gang leaders and even an entire gang with help from a half dead friend and he himself was half dead? Makes no sense, what's worse he even have to learn the body check just to defeat Yanlang. I understand about the red snake leader but Yanlang made no sense lol. Anyone who knows Ryo in Japan would be like wdh, so you can take down an entire gang with some help and both of you are half dead and sicne then you improved so much and actually still lost to this Yanlang guy?

it's a remaster of a 19 year old game. the graphics are barely touched up, but hey, that's all a remaster usually is. You can't compare it to the likes of the recent Crash or Spyro ones, because they are proper remakes.
