A friend of ours has an older Yorkie, then rescued a deaf Aussie mix. They were the same size (7-8 pounds) when they got the 8 week old Aussie. By the time she was 9 months old, her "big" brother was able to walk under her. But they are very loving and protective of each other. Dogs aren't as concerned about differences, we should learn from them.

you should still mention it when you go to the vet because they might want to look at risk factors and how your dog is doing with it

+ to the vet. My mom has a 13y.o. pekinese with this condition and also flat face that make it hard to breathe. She recently got medicine prescribed, that in theory helps her get more oxigen into cells and help her be more active and feel better. Sadly, at her age, and withount enouth medical supervision before, her trouble breathing affected her lungs and then her heart in an irreversible way. But there are mesures to help support her heart then it gets even worse, that prolongate lifes of dogs with her conditions and make is easier. Those things also may be preventable if you consult vet and give her support for breatimg available before it severely affects her lungs and heart.

@@hollyeasley2928 as a human, I have to uses a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine, or more commonly called a CPAP machine. I wear it when I am having trouble breathing or when I am sleeping. I know when dogs get really bad, they sometimes have to go into oxygenated cages, but that’s not always a long term solution.

@@PoM-MoM Thank you for this info :) Luckily, as i previously stated, my dog is always under control (and is well taken care of). She has other conditions as well due to the abuse of her previous owners'. I adopted her from a local shelter when she was almost 7 years old and my vet said that there weren't great chances for her to pass the 8 year mark...but she's now 14 and even better than years ago. Her tracheal collapse is totally manageable for now, let's hope for the best :)

If it is reverse sneezing then your dog isn't in danger. Though I've never heard of a reverse hiccup! Reverse sneezing is not harmful to the dog. Sometimes our sweet girl "forgets how to breathe" you can do some searches on youtube to see the difference, but there's a very characteristic stance dogs take while reverse sneezing. My dad swears by "holding the nose" technique but usually I just try to comfort the dog and it is soon over.

That makes total sense. We had a Chihuahua and she would do the goose honking. I had no idea it was because of her trachea but since I noticed there were indications of trouble with breathing, I would hold her and firmly, but not harmfully, press just below her rib cage. She would honk once or twice after that, but then it stopped. I never knew why until now.
