I just purchased this guitar. I frickin Love it. I just need to give it a good setup. Great multiple tones are achievable. Oh by the way I bought this guitar from Guitar Center for $469.99. I couldn’t pass on it. Brand new in the box.

Great review Mr. Murphey , I just put money down on a Red Wine Sheraton Pro II , Not even knowing about the Coil Tap . This is my first Hollow Body Electric in almost 50 years . all 30 guitars I have had since are all solid body. I am getting great deal $440 out the door.
@davidmurphey9514
@davidmurphey9514 3 жыл бұрын
With the exception of acoustic guitars. Solid body guitars have also been my staple. However in the past 5 years I have found the semi hollow guitars to open my over worked ears something new. The Sheraton pickups offer a closer sound to the older Gibson 335. The claim that splitting the coils add more noise in my experience is false. However be careful in pulling because the knob will possibly pull off and can be noisy if you are using overdrive when pulling. So I don't recommend pulling during recording. Good luck with your purchase. Wine is a beautiful color. Thanks for listening. Have a great day

I have the same exact guitar. It comes with D'Addario's 10s which are nice. I play mostly blues so I'm going to try DR Blues next. I don't believe this guitar coil splits. It's actually coil tapping which is very different. Either way an awesome sounding and versatile guitar. I love it.
@davidmurphey9514

Just for giggles one day I split the neck pickup on the Sheraton and compared the neck pickup to the neck pickup on my 2014 American Standard Stratocaster. They were so close that it would be difficult to tell the difference between the two. However, I have never been a fan of pull knobs. Recently when pulling the knob on the Sheraton in came off. So for that reason I seldom use that function. One thing that is totally false. There is no gain in hum when splitting the coils. It's a nice function but pull knobs are not functional. Either push knobs or a switch is more practical. Or simply switch guitars. I love this guitar though.
@ajphotoltd

@@davidmurphey9514 I agree. I have small fingers I could play a strat ok but much prefer a short scale guitar. I also have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro which coil splits. Love them both and I can get a pretty decent single coil sound also. I really don't see the need for a strat. I play blues most of the time anyway. Great Demo!

According to epiphone specs and the luthire that completed the setup. It actually does split the coils. However, I rarely pull to split them.

I agree it is heavy. I got one of the lighter ones. My only beef was the weight of the to large head stock. Epiphone however, has started changing that on some models. I am currently waiting on the Epiphone BB King Lucille. Hopefully that will cure some of the neck heavy situation. Thank you for watching. Sorry it wasn't the guitar for you

Hi, I have an 80s Sheraton as well, mine is the one with “Epiphone by Gibson” on the headstock, these were made only for a period of 2 years, good ones are quite rare to come by nowadays.. the build quality is amazing I have the natural finish one, for a guitar that’s over 33yrs old it hasn’t got a scratch or ding on it.. but like you, I’m thinking of changing the pickups but can’t decide what to get ? I know the Pearly Gates are great for rock, but what are they like for blues and on clean ? would you describe them as a versatile pickup ? Thanks for your views..

thanks for the video. I just ordered one of these and I am having trouble finding a hard shell case. I have read that the Epiphone E519 that Epiphone suggests for it won't fit and I will need to buy an SKB 1SKB-35. Would you tell me what you are using or what would fit. Thanks
@davidmurphey9514
@davidmurphey9514 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I have the same problem. I bought a soft shell case that fits a 335. However the Epiphone headstock is to long and it won't work. I haven't needed a case so I haven't really been looking. I suggest contacting Sweetwater. I'm sure they have run into this before. The next few days are pretty busy but If I find out something I will immediately let you know. Thank you for watching.

@davidmurphey9514
@davidmurphey9514 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know about the neck. However it looks as though that might be true. Having had a dot and dot deluxe the neck feels slightly beefier. Perhaps a little more than my Gold top Les Paul standard. Which for me is a preference. This particular one was indeed made in China. I have heard some other folks ordering what they thought was a China made guitar only to have received one from Korea. That wasn't from Sweetwater. With them you can pick the one you want. I love the playability and tone. It's as close to a 335 I feel you can get. I'll look in to the construction of the neck and get back to you. Thanks and take care

After a bit more research. Epiphone claims the Chinese Sheratons are built more to Gibson specs. They claim to be one solid piece. Initially I was including binding fretboard, head stock and binding. Epiphone doesn't include this in the neck construction. I hope this answers that question. It truly is a fun guitar.

Bought one of these in wine red and a Gretsch fairlane blue sparkle 5420t at the same time, the electronics on the Epiphone are far superior to the Gretsch and it cost 2 hundred more, even though they are 2 different animals the electronics and hardware on the Epi are way better, the Gretsch isn't nothing but a piece of firewood with strings and knobs unless you buy the real deal in a 6000 series, So in less your after that rock a billy twang don't bother with the Gretsch mine just sits in a case taking up space and actually i hate the dam thing!
