Does the app still have that satisfying pop on the bag?

Yup, production quality on the bags is shit. I had the first button rip in my very first game. It's a real shame too, the game just isn't the same without that satisfying "snap!" when the sheriff opens a bag.

Yep. I got mine second-hand in a trade, but it looked like it had been barely been played. I've gotten maybe a half-dozen plays in and nearly all of my buttons are ripped. That said, these look like different snaps than in my set. They may be more durable. It is a shame. Matt's right. The game hinges on that snap. So my copy is essentially unplayable now.

I contacted the publisher after a bag ripped, they sent me 2 full sets of replacement bags.

The expansion helps alot by adding in the merry men card. These are essentially contraband with special rules, which incentivises people to take more risks

And i highly recommend some LIGHT roleplaying.

It also came in a MUCH smaller box 😂

Same. And the cut is all off, just bad quality on one of the most important parts of the game!

One thing that I noticed that helps deter this is if at least two players 100% commit to "smuggling" all 5 cards while the other player acts as the Sheriff. If negotiations start like this from the very beginning of the game, it often forces other truthful players to begin to lie because the gap will often become to wide to catch-up. . . . But, I agree with others that the fun is often in the gameplay and not necessarily whether one wins or not.

You hit the nail on the proverbial head there: Everyone needs to buy into the sneaky side of the game. It only takes one player not to enter into the spirit of it and the fun is seriously diluted. I prefer Cockroach Poker, where there`s no escaping the sneakiness.

I think this is largely based on your group just being too trusting or not bluffing/lying effectively. We have a friend who has played the last 10 games of Sheriff without lying a single time, and he notably also has not won a single one of those games. If your group is fairly trusting and everyone is playing fairly honestly, try to secretly amass contraband into your hand either by top decking or drawing through limited contraband in the discard piles, and then smuggle in 3 to 4 pieces of contraband on a single turn, and then don't lie/bluff for the rest of the game. If you succeed, not only does that get you a ton more points, but it'll also make other sheriffs more likely to open your bag on future turns, forcing them to pay you It's also important to note that lying/bluffing is two-fold. While it's valuable to get smuggled goods into your shop without paying a bribe, it's just as valuable to entice the sheriff into opening your bag when you have legal goods in it. Offering an insultingly low bribe amount can sometimes be a good way to get the sheriff to open your bag, if done sparingly. At the end of the day, it's a game about playing other players and their expectations. If someone in your group is very trusting, use their turn as sheriff to smuggle goods in and gain a definitive edge. If someone is likely to open bags, only smuggle legal goods will be a good way to get some money out of them. The important thing, though, is to change it up a bit and not be too predictable in your patterns, while trying to identify the patterns of your opponents. Plus, if you play with the same group often, take advantage of the meta that forms, and the assumptions that are made. TL;DR: You can bluff effectively even while being honest.

I usually lie and smuggle. But this one game I was bringing in legal goods the entire time. I had fun acting suspicious as possible tho. I ended up getting my bag opened 80% of the time. It was really fun seeing how pissed they are lol.
