Only one vid on the chucker lathe, how is it working out for you guys? Im looking at getting one, but wanted to ask IF you had to do it over would you go with the 18" base and 18" cross slide? I have a 4500 manual lathe I eventually upgraded to the 18-inch base because the smaller one always was to limited and cramped. I also upgraded the head & tailstock with the risers.

Is this really so rigid that it can take a 1HP cut? I have Emco 5 cnc it has about 0.6hp and it can put for example a 1.5mm carbide parting blade to mild steel without any horsepower issues at 2000rpm (20mm dia.) Of course if you want high speed like 10+k it might be taking a lot less cut but needs still same or even more rigidity for preventing the chatter from happening.

1HP, probably not. But more than .5HP, yes. My old Sherline has a 1HP motor on it, and I've managed to get that to bog down in aggressive cutting. Though I do have it belted to a higher RPM. It runs around 5K. Which I would like on this machine too eventually.

@@AudacityMicro impressive cut, the little low spindle height and short distances in general require much less meat to be rigid

As with the Emco, it weighs less than a Chinese 7x12 minilathe if stripped to bare but doesn't chatter nearly as easily when parting steel for example.

Yeah, I've always heard good things about those emco lathes. I would love to get one in my shop so I can have a manual machine. Having CNCs is great until you need to quickly open up a hole, or adjust a part. I miss having a manual lathe around.

@@AudacityMicro I bet the manual one is less rigid very likely, the cnc has solid toolpost or turret in my case and anti backlash ballscrews. The cnc can be used manually for cutting with the jogging buttons instantly. The monitor works as readout then.
