She is such a great bass player... and is incredibly sexy.
I consider this song to be the dark side of "Are You Strong Enough to be My Man."
"Strong Enough" is a sad lament. "Am I Getting Through" is a hard-edged, self-defiling rage.

Definitively, 'The Globe Sessions' was a masterpiece. I got this DVD and the whole concert is awesome, but 'Am I getting through?' will always remain as one of my favourites ever. Sheryl was, is and I'm sure will be one of the best rock females in the music world.

I used to listen to this album on repeat. Out of the blue, this song came to me just now and I was drawn here. A decade since your comment...If you’re still around, I hope it finds you well. Life is very different now, but one thing that will never change is our shared appreciation for great music.

Arguably my favourite Sheryl song. Very eerie and disturbing lyrics, a real confessional.

Very good songwriter. Maybe one of the best. Plus she can rock too. Love to hear her play bass.

This and the other songs on the album were her most interesting moment artistically. She abandoned it in order to pursue commerciality again. Her commercial pop songs were wonderful, but this album moved me more than any other, and after it she declined.

Didn't realize she was such an awesome bass player. I wish she would have played that when I went to see her, that audience was lame.. that was awesome, from one of the very few rock chicks!

I agree. Incredible song, lyrics, and performance. It's like she's in a trance... totally focused and absorbed into the music. Very few performers are capable of this level of intensity. Very few. I think the lyrics give a brutally honest look at her "dark side" here. She seems truly dangerous here. By the way, she was 37 in 1999 when this performance took place.

This song shows Sheryl's dark side. Recorded from her "Rockin' The Globe" concert recorded at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, MI on 5/8/1999. A great concert that shows Sheryl & her band in perfect form & is a must-own for any Sheryl Crow fan! Love it!!! :)
