I totally get that. I 'm uncomfortable being placed with people I don't know closely, I'm a little geeky in some ways. At our employer's christmas party I came to sit beneath a colleague who I thought of as a bit nerdy and insecure. After a while we started talking, and the exact thing you described happened there. We share a lot of similar interests, laugh about the same things, and she has become a good friend since then. A colleague asked me afterwards if that wasn't a terrible evening, sitting beneath her all evening. No. It was great.

I feel for Kristen in this interview. Shia is so deeply honest and direct which seemingly scares her when he goes straight for the brutaly honest questions that requires you to be 100% grounded in your own skin. He does an amazing job answering her deflections, whilst not letting her off the hook on the hard questions that can be difficult to face with great follow up questions to really have her dig deep.

I think she did a great job even understanding what he was asking most of the time. When she said, "Do YOU think that?" it does get to the point of, he's actually making a ton of statements about his views while framing it as a question. He didn't really answer questions too deeply, he framed most things as questions. I do this a lot too and there are some unfortunate implications about that.

Shia has a gift for listening, with his Aquarius Ascendant, Mercury/Venus in Cancer, Jupiter in Pisces, this is an individual with incredible patience with people, and true desire to want to understand them. I doubt he understood everything she says but he's probably not a very judgmental person, he's trying his best that's for sure. He knows how to put people at ease, and when he speaks of LOVE he means it. Aquarius/Cancers (and Libra/Pisces to a degree) are the signs of therapists. I was surprised how many therapists I knew personally had those signs prominent in their charts.

@@FrancoKTA Why she does what she does. I couldn't know though. I just meant she's clearly backing away from Shia's perspective in this interview. Her sarcasm is telling. He knows what acting is. Unless you've seen others who've been through what he has, they don't. Many people are great without reflecting on what they're doing. Many others reflect and can never be great again. A select few understand what they're doing, why they do it and do it exceptionally. He's actually getting there. She's lost. Charlie's Angels? Really?!
@FrancoKTA

youtoober2013 You should watch her Hot ones interview (the hot wings show) she just did. I think you will get a better understanding of why she acts the way she does. It start the same as this one you know she is kinda on the defensive. But you see her open up as she can tell from Sean’s questions he is asking genuine questions and I actually curious about who she is as a person. I mean remember how much shit she got when those twilight movies first came out. And even after they were done she constantly asked about her relationship (which was super messy if I remember right) and about the twilight movies. If you ever seen her talk about those movie you can tell she doesn’t give a fuck about them. So I think she just grew to hate interviews and is alway instantly defensive at the beginning of them. Like she thinks your going to take jabs at her so she throws them first. TLDR: Watch her hot one interview. I think it will change your outlook on her and help you understand why she kinda defensive in interviews. It did for me at least.
@youtoober2013
@youtoober2013 4 жыл бұрын
@@FrancoKTA I was disappointed in this interview _because_ I watched the Hot Ones interview when it came out. This one obviously happened first. That's why she mentioned Shia off-hand. Thing is Sean is amazing at what he does, but he knows well that his job is to make his guests as comfortable as possible, so they can open up to his personal questions under the heat stress. The whole premise of the show is genius. Taking interviewers out of a show is also smart. That's why I usually enjoy actor on actor interviews... and especially comedians. It's not about the people it's about the art. She acted like this was an interview about her... it wasn't supposed to be, the whole purpose of these interviews is to be more vulnerable and open with the chemistry between the like minded. Shia was really diving in -and immediately like she noted, to the point of the interview. It may seem like she doesn't want to reveal some side to herself or something, but in reality it's because she doesn't even know that side of her herself. That's why she does movies that no one hears about and then a movie like Charlie's Angels... let alone start in a movie like Twilight. The drama involved with that position should have been obvious. She's clearly always felt uncomfortable in regular interviews, which is the reason why she shouldn't have felt weird in this one, but she made it weird. This is coming from an "agent told me to do it" perspective and I think that if she was confident in the reasons she wanted to act like many certain strong females that she has in underrated films, then she would be able to talk about it. _Especially_ with another actor _ESPECIALLY_ with a guy like Shia... -no, there is no guy like Shia... she wasted a great opportunity to figure out why she uses art as a conduit for love. The way she talked about her family... sad. Reminds me of that kid from Pewdiepie's latest Dr. Phil episode that doesn't talk to his mom because she doesn't do anything to make him "relevant". It's a sorry case of being lost in life, only in Kristen's case here, she actually has talent and a seemingly really cool personality, but it's all the chips you hold on your shoulder that ultimately weigh anyone and their craft down. Shia on the other hand is constantly shedding even every skin. Charlie's Angels? Seriously?!

@@RickyMackie Which you -judge- as condescending.... It can easily be a genuine question from people who would like to simply understand why you are being more quiet than they themselves would be. As to get an insight into your thinking, which they don't get if you say nothing out of your own initiative. Apparently they are interested in you and you make it out to be something negative. Geez... Also, people who are not quiet by character are often only quiet when they feel left out or not at ease. It is not so strange that they project this onto other people as well. Maybe next time someone tries to involve you in conversation, you can think it is nice of them instead of having negative feelings.

I've watched this interview so many times... Someone said that it's like watching depression and anxiety have a conversation and i think that's hilarious and true.. AND there's such empathy present. Such kind curiosity, such vulnerability, such emotional and social intelligence. I'm thinking lately that everyone could benefit from having acting be a part of our lives. I don't think we should idolize actors but i do think we should admire and observe them as mirrors. Love both of them much more than i did before the first watch. Damn Shia saying how deeply dissatisfied with life is SO REAL.. and i get it. I think we all can.. WE spend so much of our daily life 'acting' and life is easy in those circumstances because they don't demand complexity. they separate us from the rest of our lives... Anyways, great interview.

I am suspecting that Kirsten may be on the autism spectrum. She said several things that point in that direction. For instance having such a hard time getting herself started in the morning. Many autistic women are gay or bi. Autism goes along with a lot of anxiety. Acting isn't an obvious choice of career for an autist, though...
@Canadian97467

@DAVE ADAM (1) It's not a fictitious condition. (2) I am not imagining anything particular about her personal life. I'm just noticing that a number of things that she revealed about herself match the diagnostic criteria for autism in grown women. (3) It's not about being horrible to her. She is obviously plagued by a high level of anxiety. This sort of thing can be debilitating. It's actually really sad that a lot of women don't get a diagnosis and struggle when they could, instead, get the proper help and support. Autism is an invisible disability, which unfortunately goes hand in hand with a high rate of suicide. The growing awareness of it is a good thing, both in terms providing more adequate help to those affected, but also in terms of showing the proper understanding and care to someone who doesn't function like most people do. (4) Kristen doesn't provide enough info to know for sure if she has high-functioning autism, but it's a possibility.

@DAVE ADAM There are several straw men in what you just wrote, and I won't take the time to correct them all. You sound like a fan and I am sure that you know a lot more about Kristen than I do. Autism isn't a fictitious condition. You are the one who is uninformed if you think that Jenny McCarthy is an authority on the matter. Within the autism spectrum, there is a variety of IQs. Many geniuses are actually on the autism spectrum, and many historical figures are suspected to have been autists. If you are right when you say the following, it actually supports my suspicion instead of undermining it: "She is in fact high functioning genius, incredibly intelligent, incredibly well-read, highly introspective, and also somewhat shy." That's what a high-functioning female autist looks like. They are otherwise known as nerds.

Put two BRILLIANT minds, complex beings, highly emotionally and overall intelligent, authentic, gifted humans together in the same room and you just get a free trip to an unforgettable cerebral and sensorial Nirvana!.... That’s because he’s the alpha. The dominant force. If he wasn’t guiding the conversation from that position the dialogue would’ve gone no where important and there would be nothing of value to take away from this video. Luckily Shia took it upon himself to manufacture an interesting conversation. Did this bimbo even ask him a single question? No. Did she talk about anything other than her gash? No. C’mon Actors on Actors, pair someone better with the great and wise Shia.

Mike Posner I think you’re just projecting whatever incel bullshit that’s infected your perspective on to a social situation. Shia is way more zen and accepting, doesnt mean he’s dominating the conversation. On the contrary, because he’s so comfortable in his own skin he doesn’t project on to Kristen or ever feel like he needs to lead. That’s the entire point. Once you reach a level of personal growth you dont feel the need to be anything other than yourself. Kristen still looks like she has a long way away from being not so self judging and over analyzing.

I appreciate that they asked the tough questions and not simply patted each other on the back, which is something that frequently occurs in AoA interviews where the actors are seemingly BFFs and jokes around half of the time. For an "Interstellar" reference, Shia and Kristen kept the honesty setting at 95%, but lowered the humor to about 25%. ❤😊

The thing with Kristen is that she tries to awkwardly joke around a bit, I think in part because she's so anxious, and sometimes she mocks him in a playful way to lighten up the mood but he doesn't let her have it, he is so proud of his responses and interested in deep diving into the other person's feelings, he emanates that "I understand that you're trying to be funny because you're looking for relief from this serious thing we're talking about, and I know you're doing things like these because you think what you're saying may be silly, but I want you to know that I take you seriously" vibe. He has such a powerful energy and it's a joy to hear him speak, he has definitely a darker side to his words, but it's just a part of him speaking the truth.

They're both narcissists who say and do things that offend most people. He's been abusive to women and she got caught cheating with a married man, even though she knew his wife and two kids. These aren't things that decent people give you a pass on. It's not that hard to understand, plus in her case, she has no range as an actress and people get tired of seeing her play herself in film after film.
