This organic chemistry video tutorial discusses shielding and deshielding as it relates to H-NMR spectroscopy. A hydrogen nucleus is said to be shielded from an external magnetic field if it is an electron rich environment. It will thus appear upfield in the NMR spectrum. Protons adjacent to electron withdrawing group are said to be deshielded and appear downfield in a NMR spectrum.

more the electron density around the nucleus, we need more energy to penetrate the electron shield and to feel the nucleus which means more frequency. ie.. we need higher frequency to dance the shielded protons.... this video is complete contrary.. Please verify sir...

Thats why i was wondering that why my text book and this video is not telling me the same.there is something else in my book 😧.I watched this two times .maybe there is some other point we are missing.

I understood it as the more electron density around the nucleus the lower the effective field felt by the nucleus the lower the frequency needed to flip the spin (get a signal).

I just don't understand why if the neutron/atom is SHIELDED, why a LOWER FREQUENCY is needed. I guess I'm thinking of frequency in terms of energy. If there's a shield preventing the atom from feeling the magnetic field, wouldn't more energy (proportional to frequency) be needed (to create a prominent effect, B_eff, on the neutron)?

The magnetic field isn’t the energy source in NMR, but it determines the energy difference between the two nuclear states (pointing ‘with’ and ‘against’ the magnetic field). You need to fill in this energy difference with the right amount of radio wave energy (the amount of energy rises with the wave’s frequency) to achieve nuclear magnetic resonance. The stronger the magnetic field, the higher this energy difference (with no magnetic field, there is no energy difference because the nucleus is free to ‘point’ wherever it wants). The NMR machine applies only one magnetic field of constant strength, but it uses a whole spectrum of radio wave frequencies to see which frequencies are just right to put the nuclei into magnetic resonance. Watch the video again with these things in mind.
