Shifter Stuck In Park. There may be multiple reason for your shifting not being able to move out of park. I replaced my brake light switch with a switch with adaptive cruise control and without adaptive cruise control. Neither worked or got my shifter out of park.
I then went to the next easiest thing.
I looked at a fuse diagram and found that my cruise control, automatic transmission shifter, and brake lights all were connected to one fuse. I replaced the broken fuse and all these problems were fixed.
Here are some reasons for your shifter getting stuck in park:
1. Emergency Brake (Parking Brake) Not Set
2. Knob is stuck on brake light switch or gear shift sensor or stop light switch
3. Fuse
4. Faulty Shift Interlock Solenoid
5. On an incline and the parking brake is not being released (push car forward, release parking brake, shift the car, fix parking brake issue before you park on an incline again)
6. Vehicle Ignition Switch fail

Man you are right on I did exactly the same thing spent 35 bucks on a new brake light sensor and it turned out that bottom fuse that I couldn't reach was bad 15 amp!! Good job buddy

I have an ABS light on, a Traction Control light on, a Brake light on, and the shifter is stuck in Park. This sounds similar to what you described in the video. I'm going to check out my fuses tomorrow. Thank you for this video

I had the same problems on my 2016 tecoma. 1. Brake overide Malfunction. 2. Check AnitLock Brake system. 3. Shifter stuck in Park. 4. No Startup and goes into assessory mode. Once I replaced the bad 10A brake fuse, all the errors went away and startup no problem and shift out of park as well. Thank you, Your video saved me a ton on mechanic bills and time for something as simple as a fuse

THANK YOU! I have a 2002 Audi Allroad and I replaced the brake pedal switch sensor and the transmission was still stuck in park. As well the heater and air conditioner weren't working as well as the 4 level air suspension. After watching your video, I checked all of the fuses and it was the CONTROL SUPPLY 10 amp fuse that I switched out with a new fuse and it FIXED IT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO!

Thank you so much for your troubleshooting advice. The 1998 Honda had the shifter stuck. Fortunately, the fuse was blown in the front auto compartment and able to replace it. All the best!

That's a great video. I just had a KIA Forte that didn't want to go out of park. And when I had it all apart, there was just a screw that came undone, so I decided that I'll film it and post it here as well. But it seems like that KIA has a problem with their shifting mechanism.

2002 tacoma! Dam bro! You got me off the side of a back road, thank you thank you! I lost my dash lights and tail light so pulled over and was stuck. Thank again, need to figure out what’s causing it. 165,000 miles on it no rust great truck! Wish me luck!

My car is currently at the dealership after dropping it off less than an hour ago (a "free" recall and replace of it's AirBag). While there I advised them of the shifter being stuck (the same behavior as your shifter). They told me they would diagnose the problem for $125 and then contact me with the repair cost. - Your video has just saved me hundreds of dollars. I called them immediately to tell them to forget their diagnosis and just let me know when they completed the AirBag Recall - Thank you!

Same! Just called them to schedule my recall fix. Told them about my issue and they said it would cost $150 to diagnose, which would go towards the fix.... so could’ve easily been much more $$$. Thank you!!

So oh my lord!!! I just changed my light switch on my 2000 Toyota Camry. I had to research it. I am not a mechanic. My late husband was and he passed two years ago. Sooo I researched how to and did It myself. Proud being a girl and all. But that didn’t fix the issue. Unplugged battery as well. 😂 I feel like I did everything you did, except I didn’t check the fuse! 😅that’s what I’ll be doing next. I have to go buy new fuses so I can replace. I pray this fixes the issue!! Thank you for this video! And I am so glad I stumbled upon it.

Glad it turned out to be something simple, this is why I avoid firing the "parts cannon" at problems without at least pulling up a wiring diagram and checking some voltages first. Not only to save on unnecessary new parts, but also because a "NEW" part could potentially be defective out of the box, further complicating your original diagnosis by adding even more problems into the system. Also it's worth considering what caused that fuse to blow in the first place, it could just be age but it's also possible you have an underlying intermittent short somewhere. That isn't a big deal as long as you make sure to replace the fuse with the same rating, worst case scenario it just blows again down the road and you can diagnose it further at that point. In fact I'd do the same as you in this case, fuses are cheap and there's no point pulling up panels and carpet unless it blows for a second time IMO.

Funny you say that. Now that I think about it... it blew when I was pulling a trailer... which I’ve never done before. Didn’t notice the broken cruise control or back up lights for about 3 months.

Also the car wouldnt start (push to start) and after car was on (bypassing everything and jumping the starter)it wouldn't shift into gear. It was stuck in park. All due to the stop fuse! Thank you

Same problem, i google every reason my brake light wont work and shifter stuck. Only you suggest the simplest and easiest problem to solve ! Others suggest interlock selonoid and break switch. I changed the fuse, Bammmm... My shifter and brake light start to work again. Thank youuu !!!!

Thanks for info. 2007 equinox, shift stuck in park, key would not let me complete shut off to remove it. Before happened, the roof lights blinked day before.didnt seem to be acting normal. And power locks would not always lock door. Battery draining after 3 months. Removed tab under steering wheel,pushed in spring,removed key. Testing fuses,charging battery, etc.take care.

Good video, thanks. I just had the same problem with my 2007 Tundra after hooking up a trailer. The brakes lights stopped working and the shifter would not shift. I did some research and thankfully it was only a broken 15A fuse.

Thanks for this video. I have a question, its hard to figure out... Whenever i turn my FX35 on, hit the brake and try to ship, i have difficulty pressing the shifter to switch to reverse or drive... but after it shifts it works normally. Its only time this happens is when its in park. i don't even know how to explain.

Having a simulator problem with my 2004 Mitsubishi endeavor ether it won't come out of park or won't go into park unless you fiddle with the shift linkage or turn off the car start it back up and it will go into park. haven't figured this one our yet but this video gave me some direction to possibly follow.

Thank you for this video. Shifter was locked in my 2011 Scion Xb and found the faulty fuse and works great again😂 Question, my battery won’t charge. Power steering is off. Checked battery and it is good. Replaced alternator and it still doesn’t charge? I’m at a loss for why it won’t charge. Is there a fuse that could be blown? Fuse box in engine was replaced and not the same as the original manufacturers so the diagram doesn’t match and I have no idea what fuse is what under the hood. The interior is the original and everything seems to be ok with the fuses. Any advise would be appreciated Thnx.

Yep mine was a blown 10 fuse 💥 i believe the blinker/backup light fuse 🤔 if I'm not mistaken

I changed that little switch u did under the brake area all seemed to work fine but now I’ve noticed the brake pedal gets stuck in the braking position sometimes. After a while u can smell brake burn. But if I slap the brake pad with my foot a few times it goes back to normal lol it’s a 2007 Honda Pilot

I realized that it would start working again by lightly pressing the brake pedal upwards, this is, the other way you usually press your brake pedal. I wonder if I could finally fix it by just adjusting it a little bit instead of changing the entire piece

@@dFreemZ no, what ended up happening was I figured out that the manufacturer had the fuses for "open slot" and "brake light" were not labeled correctly in the manual diagram. I was so frustrated at the time I had even ordered a new brake light switch thinking that was the issue. Nope, the issue was I just needed to add a 10/25 amp fuse to that "open" slot and, "woila!" My car was no longer stuck in park.

The Toyota dealership said they couldn't find the problem and my radio had stopped working. They told me the radio needed replacing and the shift was just dirty. My truck is 12 years old so I believed that. But the shift still gets stuck.

Unless you drive almost any Nissan because they use the a p.o.s plastic plunger with a flimsy metal arm to engage the shifter out of park once the brake is applied... and they fail thousands of times every single model they have ever made from 2012-2020 and they refuse to recall them they just send you a bulletin about it and how to replace the part.!! How can they even get away with that. $20 part but takes an hour to get all the panels screws and wires moved to get the center console out and replace the part if so inclined or a $699 replace and repair cost for something they know is their fault .... nuts. I wished it were a fuse on my 2014 Altima but thanks for the video!!

@@ed3643The way I fixed mine was the gear shift cord/ transmission connection was lose. The transmission lever and shift cable slipped out. It was not the fuse.

thank you. hice estos tres pasos..cambie el interruptor brake light switch, desconecte la bateria, y revise los fusibles... ahora la palanca de cambio esta trabajando al 100% . lo hice en un Kia Sorento Lx 2011
