In regards to the GR-Four AWD system, it does not use a wet multiplate clutch pack found in many of its rivals. It uses a electo magnetic multiplate clutch pack to control the awd slippage and lock. This system is a zero friction clutch and no amount of slippage will induce wear. Unlike some other trick awd systems like the focus RS which did use a wet multiplate clutch to moderate the torque bias. That system did generate a decent amount of heat from slippage.

Having spent years in WRX STi Hatchback, the GR Corolla for me was the next iteration of that idea for rme. I LOVE mine! Even did my own review on it and currently sitting at about 8500 miles... I couldn't ask for a better experience. Even having driven FL5 CTRs and Elantra N's, all good cars in their own right, there is something intangible about the GRC that talked to me and I' m sure many other owners. Even with some interior areas that could use some better materials (I'm tackling that on mine as we speak), and a few rougher edges compared to competitors like the Civic Type-R that have multiple iterations in the US... the experience is amazing.

Great Review! I've had mine for almost three months, and I agree with almost all your descriptions and insights. It's totally weird, a bit rough here and there, and totally delightful. Oh, and the handling is mind-boggling. It's capable of remarkable speeds on challenging roads.

It feels like a modern Toyota STi/Evo, I’d agree with the ratings on the car. The mid-level interior disappears when you grab the wheel/shifter.

Love my car. In Hawaii, there are a lot of Toyota fans. Fun when they recognize my GR Corolla. Easy to drive, handles so well and love that there's no sneaking home because it announces its' arrival a couple blocks from home.

Heres the real how to make it better. 1. Buy it in black ⚫️ premium package* 2. Add the rear CE spoiler and hood. 3. Add the Eventury intake (decreses intake temp by 20f!) 4. Add the pilot spot cups tires from the Morizzo eddition. 5. If you live in a warm climate weather like me chage the engine oil every 3k miles OR LESS regardless of what the manufacturer or KZfaq tells you****. 6. Use protective film for the front bumper and hood to avoid rock chips. There you're welcome and enjoy 😉

Still loving my gr corolla. Best car I’ve ever owned

I drove one of these a couple weeks ago. I never thought I would drive a car more fun than my Fiesta ST, I was wrong. I got to test drive it alone. The dealer had a core version that was a Toyota rep. car with 4500 miles. He just handed me the keys, and said have fun. I did.

The price puts it in Subaru WRX Limited range, with a far superior AWD system for winter weather. Also have fun with the wait times for anything from Toyota they are moving away from dealers.

Great review, especially on the technical info on the drive train. Only downside is the big movie screen in the middle, think I'll stick with my 2001 Corolla, much nicer interior.

6 months later i still love mine. The core is pretty much a LE corolla interior with GR Sport Seats(a legit trim from outside of North Americas)

I sorta tilted my head in confusion when you mentioned a stiffer feel on the clutch pedal. Coming from owning a VA WRX and a 6mt Tacoma it felt really light to me when I drove it. Yes trucks tend to have heavier pedals but man, the VA WRX pedal is stupid heavy for a stock application! My wife had a hard time driving that car because of how heavy the pedal was. I almost stalled the GRC when I test drove it not because I suck at driving but because it was so much lighter than any of the vehicles I’ve owned before I started to let it out too quickly. The GRC is definitely on my list of next vehicles to own. I want back into another V8 car but also miss my AWD car too. Driving the GRC made me feel like I was back in my WRX and made me love it even more

Hope that weird 4x4 never breaks because you’re gonna left an arm and leg in that dealership to get it back

I test drove this after driving my 2022 Elantra N manual transmission. The GR Corolla clutch is heavy, a bit springy and the engagement point is high (roughly 85% of the clutch travel) compared to my Elantra N which is in the middle of the travel. This can make the Corolla fatiguing and hard to drive smoothly. The pedals are not properly spaced for heel-toe downshifting. The interior looks like a rental car. I do like the notchy engaging shifter. The gearing is short which requires shifting more often compared to the Elantra N. The visibility while driving is great.

I hope so[me day soon I could get my self a GR Corolla!!!

Hey guys, don't pay Mark up for the core. But with how limited the CE and ME are maybe it could be a good investment to pay done mark up.

This interior definitely pails in comparison to my Elantra N. Materials aren't great in either, but the N seats have leather and alcantara, there's way more room in the back seats and trunk, and more flair throughout. Screen's bigger, the center tunnel is easier to access and use.

It would be better if I actually could fucking buy one 🙄

Incorrect on the awd system. Its not a wet multiplate clutch. It uses electromagnets. No wear or friction points.

5k over MSRSP. No thanks. Millinials are nuts. Will get one used! Does the 74 inch width become annoying? It's almost a medium size car at this width. Wish this had an automatic like all the German sports cars. Happy with my Volvo V50 for now and would recommend this used for people who like this car but want to pay a quarter the price.
