I played two Shigeru SKEX's so far. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up both times. So smooth between registers. Such depth and color. Some other pianos I have tried include some Steinway D's, Bosendorfer, Yamaha CFX Concert grand, Bechstein's, Mason and Hamlin CC 9'4", August Forester etc... The Shigeru has the best action ever and the sound is as good as any piano I have played. I would say I'm a huge fan and wish my grand room at home was bigger!

First time I started humming your test piece unknowingly while you were playing it, the piano just draws you in. What a piece.

I got to play an SK-EX in a Kawai store in Dallas that had just been adjusted a few days before by a Master Piano Artisan from Japan, he was actually in the store working on other pianos when I was there and I got to talk with him. Shigeru Kawai's concert grand blew me away, I played just a few notes and was so incredulous that I had to stop playing, collect myself off the floor, and begin again. The control when playing softly is magnificent and it was the smoothest and easiest piano I've ever played. A Shigeru Kawai is one of my top 3 dream pianos.

It sounds absolutely massive from my good headphones. it was well recorded. My GL30 is fine but I would love to play on one of those.

You guys just put the word on what I couln't explain when playing on an acoustic vs digital piano, not mentionning the touch which is getting better on hybrid piano. The vibration that you get back in the pedal and through the cabinet that makes me do some unconscious adjustement as I'm playing.

I disagree with your statement in the beginning that the digital piano sounds like real piano, absolutely not, I have ca59 and the sound from speakers even though its a sk ex recording doesn't come close to the feeling you have from playing real upright, even if it's the cheapest upright you can buy

Agreed, a speaker just can’t replicate what a soundboard and cabinet does.

This grand piano by Shigeru Kawai is definitely a very good musical instrument, but you seriously claim that it should be the best grand piano in the world I have to say it sounds really good but not outstanding. If you were to test the C.BECHSTEIN D282 DE absolutely best concert grand piano in the world, then I would be very grateful because this grand piano is ahead of the Shigeru Kawai in all respects. However, I also know that C. BECHSTEIN is hardly known at all in the United States of America because of the inglorious story of Helene Bechstein by marriage during World War II. I can only give you the tip to test one or the other grand piano from the new C.BECHSTEIN.

In store that I visited down in Calgary, they have a C.Bechstein and Fazioli side by side. But I couldn't tell the difference. My talent is too limited and I didn't want to break anything 😂. You had half a million there...

Bechsteins have their own character but I feel are more suitable for homes and smaller halls. There is a reason why they’re hardly used in concert halls in Europe and even in Berlin itself. Just have to look at the recent Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Steinway and Yamaha were automatically offered. Other makes depended on demand by contestants. Only 2 others qualified: Fazioli and Shigeru Kawai. Of the 87 who made it to Warsaw, 6 chose the Shigeru, 8 Fazioli and 9 Yamaha. No Yamaha contestant made it past the 2nd round. Of the 12 who made it to the final round: 6 were on Steinway (of 64), 3 on Shigeru Kawai (of the 6) and 3 on Fazioli (of 8). I think this speaks volumes and lends credit to Alamo music’s opinion on this distinguished instrument.

I think that it's more a question of exposition and volume. Fazioli achieved that very few have but it was already being compared as the Ferrari, Lamborghini of the piano. Check this out: Estonia. I believe that this brand will compete with the best very soon. It's half the price and maybe 90% of the top brand. Pearl River might be able to push one of its top brand (like Schimmel) because of the volume of high level player from China.

@@michelprimeau4531 End of the day , it’s personal preference as far as what one chooses for home. Estonia is another piano which is great value. It has a beautiful fundamental tone but I am not so sure about its action and reliability compared with the Shigeru. Played all the different sizes of Fazioli’s in their Milan showroom. I appreciate their beauty but I am a Hamburg Steinway B and D person. As such I lean towards the Shigeru as it is more similar (bridge design, duplex scaling, tapered soundboard) and thus the tone and sustain are somewhat closer.
