@AikiTom76 I must have been thinking of the 8 directional sword cut, which is linked to shiho nage movement, just with an extra 4 intermediate directions added. But you are absolutely right, thanks for correcting me. I'll amend the description. Cheers!

Your right about Happo Giri 8 directions & it's connection to Shihonage. However Shihonage means 4 directions. Your both right in a sense!

Why no one mentions Daitoryuaikijutjisu where aikido comes from because it was more brutal and a truly self defense martial art over 800 years old please check it out

I regard 4 direction throw as meaning "all directions throw", because the body movement comes around in a circle. It is an exercise in circular motion - I move my centre and the circular movement takes uke's arm with its ki back over itself in a corresponding circle or spiral. The drill known as "4 direction or 8 direction cutting" is an exercise on a different aikido principle. It is an exercise or a drill rather than a technique.
