@@ShauriePvs The winner of this fight would advance to the semi-finals. In the semi finals was Naruto, Shino, the winner of this match and the winner of Gaara vs Sasuke match. So if Shikamaru had won, he would have to fight one or two more fights.

Only thing I could see as nepotism is Hashirama making Tobirama the next Kage but even then I‘d argue he was the most competent at the time

Naw its because he knew the true purpose of the exam. He knew didn't need to move forward into the next match and displayed his power and strategy well enough to move up in rank. This isn't a tournament its a chance for the nations to display their combat prowess

I'm surprised they didn't show the small conversation between the two senior ninja's accurately praising Shikamaru's understanding of his own strength to forfeit, since he understands he hasn't got the chakra left to fight he retreats tactfully for now in order to cut his losses, he won't overestimate the situation. Similar to how an experienced combat leader would on a mission, basically explaining why he's the only one to achieve Chunin status during the exam.

@@tatfly5779 I wish Chakra played more of a role in Naruto. Having your resources run out would make the characters plan out their offense and defense better. If it ran out then they'd be left with their physical devices such as kunai, shuriken, and their skill at taijutsu.

This was period of the best artstyle in whole naruto. Temari looked great here. I like how raw and intimidating they looked. In later arcs they've changed for the worse in my opinion. Temari and Gaara looked awful.

To be completely fair to Shikamaru, Itachi, or Tobirama . . . this is Shikamaru at 14 or 15 roughly. That isn't even remotely fair. If we put them all at the same age, the main reason Tobirama or Itachi would win is primarily to superior power, and secondarily to a higher interest in combat.

@@saadatalimithani1336 Either way, the point stands. The guy is naturally smarter than those two mentioned. The only real reason he would get bitch-slapped is due to power-differential and a lack of interest (if we put them all at 12). It's kind of a miss-match. Shikamari could definitely outthink them in a battlefield scenario, but lacks the power to survive a one-on-one. That's kinda the issue. Unless the guy gets a victory in less than four minutes or something via the Shadow Style which I doubt would happen.

He already won the moment he got her shadow caught. Him giving up is a strategical retreat, often used in real life battlefield. Minimise your losses while managing to secure the main objective. No wonder he was the only one who became chunin.

I think its a plot hole for shikamaru, and the nara clan as a whole that undercuts their intelligence. That they created this jutsu that can puppet other people, and they they dont wear armor on any vital points that they could stab. Like, if they have a piece of metal around their neck, they can just win anything by making the opponents stab themselves while being protected themselves. It feels like a critical oversight in character design that undercuts the entire point of the clans signature move in an actual fight

Shikamaru steals the show every time. When up against Hidan and Kakuzu, he's just like "You guys (the only Jounin and rest of the chunin) try and hold off the guy on the left until Kakashi and Naruto arrive with plot powers to save you. I'll deal with the literal immortal that instantly wins if he can so much as give me a paper cut on the right by myself. Meet you back here in 15? Break!" Shikamaru put the fear of life into Hidan. Moral of the story. Never make Shikamaru get serious.

Nope thats not it works. Shikamaru shadow doesnt have to with anything shadow or other form of shadow. Shika shadow affects to his chkra, concentration and range. The farther the target , the weaker is the grip of shdow skill. It is also channeling skill , that means any interuption the skill would break and chkra reserves depends on how many he can control and how strong the control. The parachute clothes decoy is only a distraction and manipulation bcoz Temari will think that the shadow of parachute includes to shadow but its not but to lure him into that hole

Nope thats not how it works. The tunnel shadow has nothing to do with his skill. It merely hides his true purpose of his shadow and also kankuro wouldnt give out warning shout like he did to parachute. If you use direct straight shadow approach then kankuro will warn Temari.
