5:48 Using the removal tool on the 2nd bearing is blooming awkward. Its a lot easier to use a 24mm socket and bar on the 2nd bearing. 15:18 Installing shimano bbs with the single tube is also a pain, it often moves out of place when pressing. The two sleeve tube that FSA use is much easier as it stays in position when winding the bearings in.

Great video as usual. So annoying having to buy special tools to remove and install these. I have a Shimano SM BB72-41, would the tool at the start you used work? What model is it? What about the adaptors on the threaded rod where did you source those please and what type are they etc, what size rod. Many thanks 🙏🏻 SOLVED: Removal tool is a park tools bbt 90.3 and it comes with those adaptors if anyone else needs to know this information!

Hi, I have a problem, while using the Park Tool to knock out the NDS bearings (they were in extremely bad condition) the bearing housing itself which I think is a composite? (it's Shimano BB71-41) basically disintegrated leaving me with a problem oh how to get the remnants out without damaging the frame. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Another very detailed and to the point video. THANKS! On the use (or not) of grease/ adhesive/ anti-seize: Shimano does not mention any of these in their installation manual. I understand your approach would be first to use nothing, and see if there is any cracking. If there is, then try anti-seize/ grease. If there issei's till, then use Loctite. Correct? Only drawback I see, is that I should then disassemble the BB repeatedly, which means potentially damaging it when blowing with the hammer. Another question on the use of grease: would grease not allow some movement of the bearing cups under load? maybe that is the reason why Shimano does not mention it? Your comments would be very much appreciated! Thanks PS: I very much prefer threaded BBs....unfortunately frame manufacturers do not seem to agree with me

@@elvyskennethmiguel8817 No, I got no replies. I have mounted mine with no grease, but I have not DE-greased the surfaces either. So I count on the extremely thin layer of grease that is on the parts naturally. Again, if Shimano engineers for whatever reason believed some grease was necessary, I am sure they would have mentioned it. I trust them. Incidentally, after 9 months of use, I hear no noises and it works very well.

@@fabiopunk1661 grease would only keep any gaps lubricated to reduce clicking/squeaking. There's going to be movement which you don't want so realistically you want to loctite and not grease as loctite will 'lock' it in place rather than grease any movement.

@@out_spocken Again, who better than the designer and manufacturer would now how to assemble? They mention no grease nor lactate. I have followed their instructions and after two years of use, no fancy noises. If I had some noise, then I would consider doing something.

Another great detailed video, thanks very much. My bottom bracket is creaking so from what you said I would need to use locktight or grease, but I have heard that you shouldn’t use grease on a carbon frame because it can react with the resin holding it together. I just wondered what your thoughts were on this. I am a bit worried about it.

Hi, thanks for your video. I've learned a lot. When I removed my BB, a shimano press fit from a road bike, it was really soft to do. I've used the dedicated tool. When I've installed the new one, I could fit tionly by hands, so I'm guessing that the tolerance of the bottom bracket housing is too low... I've noticed that, pedaling, the bottom bracket is rotating (I've checked by placing a bit of tape to mark its initial position). I've no lateral ovement, or creacking or anystrange feeling while pedaling, but the bottom bracket is rotating on its housing on the frame... Do you think I should fix it (by using some retainingc ompound) or having it rotating a bit is not a big deal? Thanks again!!!

How important is the plastic bit/tube between the two sides or the bb? Are these bb all the same width, or it varies from frame to frame? Cheers
@2WheelsGood.01
@2WheelsGood.01 3 жыл бұрын
There are many different BB widths so you have to make sure you get the correct BB. The plastic tube is part of the Shimano BB. It keeps the spindle clean inside the frame and if you have DI2 or internal hydraulics it prevents the wires and hoses from touching the spinning crankset spindle.

Marek Juraszek 22 minuty temu Hi, I just installed my pressfit BB86 with resing cups (Shimano BB-RS500) for the first time inside my bare carbon shell. Is it normal for the resing cups (or bare carbon) to snap/click loud like this when pressing in ? I was afraid I am damaging something ( I was using a home made press tool) but I ensured that the cups were prefitted parallel to the shell axis. I also lubricated both the cups and the shell with a little bit of waterproof grease. I think that even though the grease has been applied, the cups were sort of 'tension jumping' due to the friction with carbon but I want to make sure that this snapping noise is normal for bare carbon shells. can you advise ?
