When it comes to magic, Shin Lim is a genius. Like Michael Jackson dancing, Shin is a phenom… his moves are near perfection. When I first saw Shin Lim do this act on Fool Us in 2015, I spent the next 6 months reassembling my head after it exploded. It's back together. Mostly.

You're just missing the slight of hand, because he makes it appear as if things happen at a different time from where he switches things. I can break down a bunch of what he does, if you really wanna know. I dissected the act while you were watching it, but I've seen this spot before. In the 1st trick ... However, when he tossed Heidi's card on the table, it wasn't her card. He collected her card while throwing out the fake one. Look carefully ... right when he picks up her card and moves that hand towards the deck, he flips her card IN toward him quickly and tucks in back into the pack, while at the same time, flips OUT a new BLANK card towards us and then tosses it casually to the right (out left), to make it appear as if he was throwing her card. Then, when he picks up the deck towards his chest, her card is the 1 closet to him. When he puts the deck in his mouth, he quickly redirects your attention to the fake, blank card on the table, by releasing the smoke (probably with a foot pedal attached to his cart. Now, since her card was the bottom card, closest to him, it was easy for him suck it into his mouth (while you weren't watching), folding it so you'd be freaked when he mysteriously spit it out. Remember, this whole time (since the smoking fake card), the camera isn't even focusing on his face, but it in close-up mode, supposedly so you can see he isn't doing anything funny with/to the card on the table. However, the "magic" had already taken place. In the 2nd trick ... I didn't catch all of his moves, but I can tell you a couple moves I caught. First, when he asks her to pick a card, he has her pick out of only a subset of the cards he has, limiting the possible ones she could pick. Then he pulls her card back toward him and ACROSS his other hand, pretending to be getting ready for the next step. Slight of hand at this point (he moves the cards around in/between his hands. Next, he then PRETENDS to have "sort of" forgotten to ask her to mark the card and thrusts it back in her direction, crossing his other hand again while gesturing towards her and says, "You wanna open the marker?". There is another example of misdirection, drawing your attention to where HE wants you to look. Why would he pull the card back and then hand it back to her after passing it over the deck in his hand ??? Hasn't he practiced this routine a 1,000 times before ??? Next, she signs the card and he makes sure we see that (i.e. camera close-up *** some slight of hand probably going on in the background at this time). Sometimes this "constant shuffle" IS there also to get you used to his movements when he's NOT doing anything suspicious, so your brain will "excuse"/overlook the same movements later, when he needs to pull a fast one ... literally. So now, he takes her card and carefully place it on the bottom of the deck in his left hand. Now, rather than just get on with it, he waves his magical hands very slowly over the deck before moving on, so you'll do what you did, look very intently to see when he switches things up (cause we ALL know he really isn't performing MAGIC, right ???). However, instead of just placing the card underneath, he leaves it stuck out "so you can see where it is, for sure". I suspect that it is tucked in alright, but it is no longer the bottom card. He has cleverly lowered the actual bottom card (or cards) enough to shove her card above it/them (i.e. hers is NOT the bottom card). All that matters is that, it's not the bottom card, HE knows where it is and it's where HE needs it to be. Next, he, for no apparent reason, blows on the deck while lifting up the TOP card, WHILE supposedly pushing her card ALL the way in, even with the rest of the other cards and then, immediately flips the bottom card over the top of the "deck" ... just enough that we can sort of see ... it looks like her card. Then he presses , or more accurately, PINCHES the "deck" and continues to hold them together VERY tightly wile semi-rotating them for ALL to see. I believe these are all special card, designed to stick together, and the angle we see them at, they appear to all disappear ... all except her card. WOW, Amazing !!! Next, he "frees" the missing cards, which is nowhere near a full deck, and we don't know how many there are in either deck ... the 1 he "lost" or the one he mysteriously "found" ... again. Notice, he is very careful to only show the face card of Tara's while dumping the other cards out (so you can't see how many are really there). Finally, he fans out the "new deck" and pulls them toward and OVER Tara's "deck", and SUDDENLY, there's another deck in his "Tara hand". This is where he hands his right hand (with the New Deck) Tara's card, as he shakes what's left of her "pretend deck" . Notices the size of the deck in his left hand now. It appears to be a full deck where they always seemed to be a half deck (or less) before, while the deck in his right hand appears to shrink down to a single card ... Tara's. I believe both decks are "special" decks that can puff up or collapse down when needed, possibly by pressing or releasing them. Notices how he is , once again, squeezing the deck in his right hand, but loosely holding the deck in his left hand. One last thing, I can't tell but, at the last stage, it also looks like his left hand has some cards tucked down in his palm, but that could just be lighting. The very last "hiding on his body" tricks, you're on your own. I haven't thought about it that hard, and there are a NUMBER of ways he could've done it, but my brain hurts at this point and Ima not gonna do no more thinkin', no more, no way, anyhow 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Shin Lim is a genius. If you wanna know the one card to full deck switch it’s a contraption thing that it’s one card attached to a another card that if you let it go drops down but looks like a full deck.
