I like how the writers seemed to save their introspective character writing for exclusively demons while the human characters are mostly plot devices. It's so strange

That's usually how it is. Since the games aren't really a character-based story but rather most characters that appear are some "plot device" or represent something like "this is another perspective someone may have" the characters tend to be kinda flat as they don't put enough to flesh them out.

In local folklore, a manananggal will usually leave her lower half hidden and unattended while she hunts for prey during the night. If you happen to stumble upon a disembodied torso of a woman, you should put some salt into it, it will render her unable reunite with her lower half. If sunrise comes and she's still in monster form then the sunlight will disintegrate her.

@@Pikachu-qr4yb there are legends and superstitions on how humans could be turned into aswang, but most aswang like manananggal are described in myths presumably to have never started as human either. They were just races of shapeshifters that were kinda already there on the islands

@@Pikachu-qr4yb SMT demons, I believe, are manifestations of human mythology. These events may not have actually occurred, but the demons remember them as if they really happened to them. So, a demon like Loup will have memories of being a human, even if he never was.

I've experienced a few special covos as well but with yoshitsune and a tengu, cerberus and hydra, and another one with cerberus. I remember one in particular broke the fourth wall and was talking about how they were in a video game in the fifth installment. I love these special interactions they catch me off guard everytime.

Yeah, but I can see why they might do that. Mainly because it could net you a demon higher than your level and not all demons have these special conversations.

@@soronexle2681 They could just have it so the enemy demon goes, "Nah, he looks too weak. Once he's strong enough, I'll join you," and then have them automatically join you where you talk to them again at a higher level. Like what happens with normal recruitment.

This was a very odd ability and never touched upon ever again after Chain of Memories. The most infamous use of this ability when Naminé asked how Riku knew that she Kairi's nobody, and Riku replied, "I knew when I met you. You and Kairi smell the same".

Mananggal i's based on Nusantara(Austronesian) and IndoChina mythology. The name itself is varied geologically as in Bahasa Melayu & Indonesia it's known as Penanggal stemmed from the root word Tanggal(detach) which the head detached from its body with internal organs still intact. Thailand it own version - Krasue and Philippines - Mananaggal (like in this game) and surprisingly Japanese folklore as well known as Rokurokubi/Nukekubi

yeap, and Penanggal was featured before in SMT series, and had one of the worst and most unfitting design ever (which fits more demikids or pokemons). I am glad they got rid off it and added the more iconic version instead.

Yet each demons are pretty unique, the Penanggal and Krasue detaches it's head and spine(or innards) while the Manananggal detaches it's torso, Rukurokubi only stretches it's neck.

I love how I care more about these special conversations between demons than the interactions between my character and the other humans, as well as the other humans interactions with themselves. I know it's an SMT game, not a Persona game, but still, I seriously could care less about what happens to the other humans in the world, including those who are "close" to the main protagonist. I know Atlus can make an SMT game where the other humans you interact with are actually somewhat redeemable and fun to be around- looking at you, SMT 4 and SMT 4: Apocalypse- but in this one, I could legit care less if the other humans jumped off of a cliff. And it makes me sad, since I like a good story to go with the action of a game like this.

The similar scene she sense maybe because of the fact that werewolves during the colonial age and manananggal have very similar lore. Coupled with the fact that the manananggal in the game is the witch version that made a pact with the devil.

A manananggal or aswang are in a nutshell a half body vampire that can separate there lower half and fly like what you see. They can burn in sunlight of they don't get back in there human form.

The one thing I didn't like was how they made the new exclusive units mobs. Kinda took the thrill away when you fuse one and then bam there's a bunch of the same demon hanging around.
