Ganesha is Shiva's son, and Kali is the angered form of Parvati, who is Shiva's wife. The connections in this fight are so amazing.

There is a thematic thing I find pretty cool with this super boss (but I could be looking too much into it). Through out the game, there have been mentions of God's that fill the archetype of a bull god (on the top of my head there is Zues and Ba'al) and then there are those who represent the serpent (Nuwa and Lucifer) who reject the order that those who are on the throne or who strive for the throne. Shiva here has stuff for both. He has serpents on his body and thematically he is rejecting who ever plans to take the throne by destroying the universe. His sacred animal is the bull, and like the "bull gods" wants the throne for a creation with the ideals he follows. Not to mention the whole idea of destruction is to bring creation after. I just thought it was pretty cool.

Regarding Shiva's goons, it's actually more like his Family than his Friends with few exceptions. Ganesha is his son, Parvati is his wife, Kali is another aspect of Parvati. Dakini is his subordinate through Daikokuten (Japanese for Mahakala, the Shiva equivalent of Kali), and Ananta is an Avatar of Vishnu. Really wished that Kartikeya, one of my favorite demon, and also Shiva's son in this game too though.

A damn shame Kartikeya and Nandi don't appear in the game. But yes, Shiva is the only Kaneko demon who got a fresh new model, and I fucking love how it accurately portrays Shiva.

One of the most eerie and ominous boss fights in Megami Tensei. Despite being much weaker than Demi-Fiend, the atmosphere and Shiva's theme really adds to the apprehensive nature of this fight. Heck, people are even saying the theme fits for a Silent Hill game.

There is a way to one-shot Shiva. It involves killing off demons that have a dark weakness via Kali's dark reflect. In the first turn you buff/debuff and set up some stuff like use crit gems and so on. Basically, you have Nahobino at 1 HP because of Tandava and Endure, use Impaler's Glory, then get Magatsuhi back to full thanks to safeguard and the dark weaknesses of your allies, then get a beast out, use their race skill to stack Magatsuhi skills (yes, that's possible!), switch them back out and then, finally, use figment slash. That should do over 80 000 damage, defeating Shiva with just one attack. Of course, that's a little ridiculous. The way Johne did it was much easier to understand and is probably more reliable overall

Shiva is so cool, one of my favorite demons. His fight is awesome and challenging, the music is imposing, this whole part is perhaps the greatest in the game

A secret I learned from Bucketgetter is that Shiva only uses Impaler's Animus if you block or repel damage. But if you can survive a boosted attack, it's still worth cutting off his press turns.

Your comment about Ganesha is true. Here's why people favor leaving Ganesha alive: -Ganesha's debuff is Matarunda, which is viewed as the least threatening, as this fight tends to be more about surviving and not missing/getting nulled. -Debuffs aside, Ganesha's attacks are solely physical. While that does include Critical Wave, unless you are using Omagatoki: Critical, you cannot crit if the target resists your attack or better. Even then, Omagatoki: Critical does not pierce, meaning null physical or better still counters Critical Wave. -Ganesha always goes second after Shiva. Meaning, if you have a demon that nulls, reflects, or absorbs physical, you almost always deprive Shiva of the rest of his turn unless Ganesha uses Matarunda. This remains the case until Ananta appears (if you are using null phys) or throughout (if you have reflect or absorb phys). However, Shiva does still get one attack in. If you leave Kali and can nullify Kali's abilities, like John did, you can literally just focus on Ananta and Shiva, even if Ganesha decides to Matarunda you (unless Kali decides to also Masukunda you).

I dunno man, seeing dancing three demons and a god on one side and three demons and a fabulous guy on the other side is pretty surreal to me.

I remember when I fought Shiva I used Amanozako, Nuwa (transformed), and Arioch. Amanozako and Nuwa were null repel or drain to almost all elements. I temporarily went with max ice affinity and upping my magic while using Thalassic Calamity and Revival Chant. Amanozako and Nuwa both had Luster Candy and Nuwa had mediarahan. It still took many attempts on easy mode due to the amount of damage that Tandava does as well as the fact that it causes your defense to “hit rock bottom”. I also had Odin in the back for when I ran out of mp and couldn’t use Revival Chant.

I wonder if he'll fight Demi-Fiend... For context, I haven't watched the LP, so I have no idea if he got the DLC or not.

In my party i had vasuki for his magatsuhi skill big bang, i want big damge in the first raund, and he has enduring soul and bufubarion skill, and i have inanna for ice, megidolaon, lightning and fire damge, for shiva and his party, i put metatron for shield and the skill debilitate, that was my main party, if they were killed, i have tao, baal, vishnu, asura and beelzebub, to back me up, as for nahobino he has no weakness, he resist charm and null to poison

I beat this boss (albeit on normal mode) by killing his allies every other round and using Tao with Light of Order to reset the defense debuff and keep everyone healed

I did this boss with Yoshitsune, Idunn and Tao. Idunn and Tao for some reason i didnt give them Enduring soul and i used the wrong dampner on the second Magatsuhi turn and also let Anantha live and let get Shiva healed and he absolutely crapped all over me after that. Second attempt was much more smooth but still i could have made it more easy on myself if i just took a Ice demon instead of Yoshitsune. Though i do say Tao's light of order was pretty useful to remove the debuff Tandava applies

I had Inanna acting as your Huang Long did, also so I could use the lady talisman. I had Odin to hit Shiva hard with crit aura + Gungnir along with the protag spamming Bufubarion. Metatron was there for Shield of God and dekunda to get rid of the effect of Tandava. It felt a bit like I was over preparred but it was a fun fight. Are you going to be doing the demi fiend super boss?

Btw I have a solid build with 2 moves I am planning to replace. Great mana spring and wrath tempest. I have a few options but one is guaranteed going to be replaced by high almighty when I have it. The other will either be revival chant as an aid, critical zealot when I use murakumo for more damage, sakanagi this one is kinda memey but it is as strong as freikugel and probably costs single digits with my 9 potential in almighty, abyssal mask for when status ailments are a pain although I can just use amarita items, or I can keep mana spring to use murakumo and just replace wrath tempest with high almighty. Btw I am using resist dark(will be block, drain, or repel though probably repel because I naturally drain light and it looks neat) and block phys block(probably going to be repel since few block, repel, or drain physical) as I have the affinities of dlc demon cleopatra who resists 4 elements, drains light and it only weak to dark which I covered. I also have enduring soul, almighty plemora, critical zealot, and murakumo if you want to know the rest of ny moveset.

I know this is super old to comment on 😅 but I think Shiva uses Tandava the turn right after you kill his allies. I learned this from my first attempt when I kept getting my defense lowered lol

What's funny is that the first time I did this boss fight, I just died. I died two more times, but then I used a slightly optimized team to beat him. And then my most recent finish used demons that weren't really meant to do super awesome, but still had some special niches. Tactic was centered around keeping the team alive and dealing consistent damage. Also, what's funny is that I found Parvati to be the best to keep on the field if your tactic is focused on keeping your own buffs up. And in my most recent run, Shiva just kept casting Megidolaon and Parvati just kept wasting his turns, even though I did not have Repel/Drain Phys on anyone. I think if Shiva ever gets the chance to use another turn after reaching half HP, he will either Magatsuhi or Impaler's Animus.

I fought Shiva before beating the final boss and hooboy that was so tough and I died so many times. But I did beat him in under one hour after he nearly wiped out all my demons lol I'm a total noob so yeah 😂
