Two Aikido Masters get drunk in a bar, get in an argument over a mutual girlfriend. They agree to settle their differences outside ( to preserve the Bar from possible property damage). Once outside they circle each other, each waiting for the other to attack. Legend says they are still there today.

Guys I've seen vids showing corrective Aiki teaching of what were originally master energy+structure mechanics but were mistaught by his sensei in lazy western lessons. I believe all martial arts work in their logics but we get stupid useless ppl. Bad teaching inadequate training and opportunist internet critiques should not disprove ingenuity of any science. I want to learn correct things that's why we need both scepticism and respect. This showed it works it seems. Some things do sometimes. Isn't that important? I'm so attracted to this but i need partners i can't have.

That's the nature of aikido. I don't respect any martial art where the instructor only does demos with compliant senior students and won't test his or her skill against a proper opponent. As a martial ART it's fantastic. As a means of self-defense it's worth less than nothing.

That’s because you don’t understand self-defense... Aikido is made to handle “pre-fight scenarios” like if someone grabs to threaten you or if someone pushes you (same reason it’s techniques are utilized by security guards and police officers around the world). It’s not made to fight against someone who jumps around in a fighting stance. Those idiots you can always run away from.

Me with NO EXPERIENCE in competition fight but a few fights on street and kung-fu practitioner and power training have NO MATCH to be put down with an Aikido 1dan fellow that I often train(is even hilarious how he tries to apply his techniques and I EASY debunk them!) and I think even 2-3-4-5 dan using only this art moves!!!!

@@LightPresident95148 Oh, I was just quoting Mike Tyson for the metaphor. His quote more so places emphasis on the fact that when confronted with an actual crisis/self defense situation, people often forget a lot of their training and things go awry. That's why it is important to make sure a person incorporates training that is stress-based and as realistic as possible. To ensure that their body reacts appropriately to the situation and they apply that kick, punch, elbow, e.t.c. In Akido they often don't do much stress training or hands on sparring. .sorry, but your opponent is not going to stand there as you try to apply the perfect joint lock or throw. Now if you incorporate some akido into your daily sparring secession with an opponent that's trying to resist and strike back. .there's some decent stress training.

@@mynomadicnotebook2510 agreed. And on that regard, imo it's a little strange seeing this video, aikido vs mma. The techniques shown were not mma techniques. I mean, no fighter would try and grab the opponents' hands in the octagon. They would get punched and kicked before they could grab a hand. Hand grabs are more common in the streets, like someone is mugging/bullying you or something. *I'm not an mma fanboi. Just saying what I think. Aikido is remarkable imo, if used correctly.

That’s basically the idea. A lot of martial arts have different techniques with that idea. Bending or twisting a limb to the breaking point where if they don’t go with the flow, it’s going to break. So they basically flip themselves to the ground, not really you being strong enough to just flip someone over with brute force. The idea is they just naturally go with the movement to relieve the pain and prevent a broken arm, wrist, etc. I believe Aikido does have some effective self defense techniques that can be used in your average self defense situation against some untrained dipshit who saw you as an easy target and decided to jump you and only knows how to throw random haymakers and trying to get you on the ground to get on top of you. That’s basically what it was created for. It’s obviously not the thing to use for all out brawls, or against very skilled offensive fighters/boxers. It’s a self defense system, not a brawling/fighting system.

@@uome20bukz the thing is the amount of training done in akido compaired to boxing is so different you could be good at self defence with just 1 year of training boxing while you might need 5 years for akido. Kali and escrima are amazing styles to study and if you doubt that look it up and check out Dog brothers . Aikido is a great system ,it is not fake but yes is it a sport, NO ! Again to study Martial arts is just about enjoyment ,real life fighting is not sport ,it is not found in the dojo or a gym . Real life martial arts is violence ,life and death period . I'm 46yrs old started training at 12 . I have learned alot and respect all styles ,99% of people can go thru their entire life without fighting . Martial arts is about how you live your life ,I personally love fighting and violence but as I have gotten older I know I avoid more conflict and realize Road House rules are a great way to live ,lol Aikido is a great art that can relax body and mind and has great principles and concepts ,its up to me to make them work and the chances of me actually ever fighting again is slim ,but I also believe in the NRA lmao !!

What I find interesting about Aikido is it's almost like a passive-aggressive martial art why you take a sort of passive defensive posture but when you execute the moves you are in a sense being aggressive I like the idea that it's not all kicking and punching but it seems to me that you have to be very patient and remain calm so you can execute the movements rather than give in to the natural urge to strike back.

The problem with aikido is that people don't let you grab their wrists in real fights. And disciplines like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling have their own wrist locks. Aikido is maybe 5% effective in a real fight. Do you want to spend a decade becoming a black belt in something that's 5% useful? I don't.
@MasterK9Trainer

@@RictorIAG that does make a lot of sense. I think the problem is that the aikido techniques work but as I was saying one has to be very patient and wait for that opening or like you're talking about wait until they can get that that grab or connection to the other person's hand wrist or arm to execute a move and so it limits your potential reactions to your opponents attack.
