I met Helfgott shortly a couple of times after concerts in Denmark and when I told him my name is Leif he hugged me long and dearly and kept repeating "Leif Den Lykkelige" which was the nordic explorer that came to America 500 years before Columbus. Helfgott lived in Denmark for some time in my home town though I regrettable never met him at that time. When he played his birthday concert in Copenhagen after the regular set he kept running off stage asking his wife if he could play another piece. She rushed him in again and he ran back on stage and asked the audience if he could play another piece. The love from the audiience was never ending. He ended up playing double time, a night never to forget. I still cry when I reminisce.

can never watch this film and NOT cry at the end. The beauty of this scene, the snarky " ugly shirt guy" who mocks. And then when Helfgott plays, (Rush) you just KNOW Mr. Shirt is thinking: "Am 'I' a Jerk, or WHAT???"

21 years ago, when this first came out; it was my first exposure to the Rack 3...I had heard some things by Rachmaninoff and I knew what an amazing pianist he was but...This movie gave me a thirst for more Rachmaninoff...The Rack 3 haunts me; It's power is sublime!

Me too. Favorite concerto from anyone. Absolutely gorgeous. I was shocked I had missed that piece, having been classically trained as a kid and a fan of everyone from Wolfgang to Stravinsky.

It's Rimsky-Korsakov, not Rachmaninoff.
