In an interview years ago, Ian Anderson stated that years ago, the songs for the tour were all high in his register. Giving a full performance every night damaged his voice and it never fully recovered. Good on Shinedown and Brent for being smart. Recordings last longer than tours. And even protecting his voice, this guy is absolutely amazing!

Last time Brent uses playback everywhere he should hit high notes. But what you wanted? He is baritone and singing high notes are not naturally for his type vocal. When man's getting older his vocal range getting is narrow. If he was tenor he didn't face this problem.

Nope, it appears that his backing vocals from the album are playing through the speakers, and since this is a live recording recorded through the sound board it probably sounds a lot louder than it would if you saw them live.

Anyone who says this is at any part lip-synced is either going deaf or not a fan of the band. KZfaq "Son of Sam live" for that. This is actually a pretty average (I can't bring myself to say "bad") concert performance. I've watched live performances from them on KZfaq and seen them live recently and the vocals on this compared to them just don't stand up. For the people saying it's lip synced, try listening to this on good headphones or studio monitors (or better yet, clean your ears!).

I've seen Three Days Grace twice. First at Uproar 2011 with Bullet for my Valentine, Seether, and Avenged Sevenfold. Then at KISW Pain in the Grass 2012 (local radio festival) with Duff McKagen/Walking Papers, Candlebox, Chevelle, and The Offspring. Shinedown and Seether were at the same venue a week before my last time seeing 3DG. I heard it was good. The Offspring kind of sucked live. Dexter was phoning it in. I should've picked Shinedown. You're going to an awesome show! Have fun!

ive heard the original many times, and the last line of the chorus "im not angry im just saying" sounds almost identical to the studio version. seeing as he wasnt 100% on lower notes, i think at least that part was edited in. its a shame, bands shouldnt play songs at keys that their singers struggle with outside a studio. i really liked shinedown, and still do, but if worst comes to worst, lower the key for a live performance.

@Cas_anova 10 жыл бұрын
mic is placed wrong, or the drum died.but the sound is poor anyway.
@eriklarson9137
@eriklarson9137 5 жыл бұрын
The actual answer is the drummer is using a product called a Danmar Kick Pad. it sticks to the kickdrum head and it makes that metallic click sound you are hearing when struck with the drum pedal beater. A lot of soundguys love them as they provide extra definition. Some drummers love them because they make the drumhead last a LOT longer, especially if you are a hard hitter/kicker. But, as you hear here, if the EQ on the bass drum mic(s) are bad, too much click comes through. It has nothing whatsoever to do with mic placement, or a drum "dying" whatever that is supposed to mean.

well, feeling alone is one of the root problems. i don't know what kind of problem your son suffered from. i have had depression for years and there have been too many points at which i could barely take it anymore. despite help, one often feels very alone with this.

Pretty sure you're confusing that with mic control which is when you move the mic away from your face when you're singing louder to keep the overall volume the same going into the microphone.

Backing track. If you have people purchasing tickets that constitute a LIVE show, it should be live. Tune the instruments down a step if you are unable to hit the higher notes, which happen to be the melody in Shinedown's case. Otherwise you're cheating your audience
@eriklarson9137

If you listen close, and can hear, the problem here is the bass player is not loud enough in the mix. The sound guy catches it, and fixes it some, but not enough.

OK so here's the way it is. They are playing to a click track with a load of "backing parts" added, such as strings and crucially for me vocal parts. You can hear the differences between the live vocal and recorded on the chorus. I've got absolutely no problem with using backing tracks for things like strings etc that aren't practical to replicate live, especially with a song like this. But any self respecting musician that thinks it's ok to have vocals on it should hang their head in shame!

With events like Rock AM Ring and Pink Pop and things like that, the event producers mix out the crowd and mix in audio over the top. Try finding a cam version if you want proof. You can tell it's edited, because the instruments change volume and depth. Not Shinedown's doing. It's all down to the producers and managers. The band has no say in things like that. Clips like this are made for promotion, not research.

Lot of people don't realize that if bands didn't do this they wouldn't be able to make it through the entire show without losing their voice. He'd shred his voice within the first 2 songs if he had to sing it the same octave as what's on the album. That said the sound guy could have done a MUCH better job at blending it with the performance.

From what I can tell, you're almost right. Two high parts they played from the recording but they weren't lip-synced. Brent sung the lower harmony like Brandon said. I think J haze is right, if Brent sung like the recording throughout the entire show, it would suffer by the end. In the earlier parts of the song however, Brent was singing the high parts.

The PiggyGun if he can't sing the songs they record for a whole show that just means he's inconsistent. Either he should train his vocals to hit the high notes more consistently. Or write songs in a lower register. This is just plain out bad singing. I'm a professional musician and would never be seen on stage with someone singing this bad.
