This version of "Simple Man" has a lot more behind it than a simple cover. In case people don't know, the original is by Lynyrd Skynyrd, with Ronnie Van Zant before his death in a plane crash in 1977. Shinedown and Skynyrd are both from Jacksonville, Florida. Shinedown's original guitarist, Jasin Todd is married to Melody Van Zant, Ronnie's daughter and the band used to play at a venue in Jacksonville called Freebird Live, which was owned by Melody and Judy Van Zant, Judy is Melody's mother and Ronnie's widow. The band used to play this as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Incidentally, in this video there is a little girl holding a picture of a man - that man is Ronnie Van Zant and that little girl is his grand-daughter. The best comment I've seen about this is - "People don't realise that Shinedown is Lynyrd Skynyrd family". Just copied this from another youtuber video that someone coment about this cover, just want you all to know how cool this is! :)

A very popular shinedown song is “.45” a lot of people have heard it, I think it came out around 03 or 04? But it’s a good song and “Monsters” is one of my personal favorites from their newest album

He definitely has an awesome voice. My son chose this song at his wedding for the mother and son dance by Skynyrd. Blew me away. Now every time I hear it, it takes me back to our dance. God Bless Bird Man.

Shinedown is my favorite band!! Brent Smith has an amazing voice! Cant go wrong with any other songs. Alot of their songs have messages deal with mental health and substance abuse. 45, Monster, I'll follow you, Bully, Cut the cord and one of my favorites, Get up. Enjoy! Great reaction.

Fun fact: The lead singer of Shinedown said in an interview, anytime shinedown plays a show with lynyrd skynyrd they always ask permission to play this song. One such show, during Lynyrd Skynyrd's set, they said "we're gonna do something a little different tonight. We're gonna play a Shinedown song" and played this song. Mad respect for both bands.

Omg there is so much amazing Shinedown! I have been lucky enough to see them live twice and will see them again in two months with my oldest son! It’s going to be his first rock concert and we are both so excited! My song dedicated to my kids is by them called “I’ll Follow you”! But anyways you can never go wrong with any of their music bc they have a lot of variety. They have really hard stuff Like Sound of madness and Devil! Also some upbeat rock like “State of my Head” or “cut the cord”! And they have some with the most amazing messages like Monsters,Get Up and Second Chance! They are my favorite so please dig deeper I promise they are a band worth your time not just musically but also on a personal level all these men are just beautiful human beings🖤🤍🤟🏽⚠️⚠️⚠️🤍🖤🤟🏽

My friend...welcome to the world of Shinedown. My recommendation would be the song that got me into them. "Diamomd Eyes (Boom-Lay, Boom-Lay, BOOM)" That song alone caused be to buy 3 Shinedown Albums in search of it, and I have preordered the two that have come out since.

Some back story, the lead guitarist of shinedown at the time is married to Ronnie Vanzants daughter “ the original lead singer of lynyrd skynyrd” the little girl in the video is his granddaughter, the old faded picture she is holding up is a picture of Ronnie. Birdman did you notice that little girl was holding a picture of ronnie van zant. Shine down did this cover because their guitarist that passed away was married to ronnie's daughter. Ronnie's widow owned a bar in Florida, and helped them get their start. So this was their way of saying thank you.

I’m a huge shinedown fan from the very beginning here’s their best in my opinion: lost in the crowd, 45, burning bright, better version, stranger inside, save me, I dare you, shed some light, second chance, crow and the butterfly, if you only knew, what a shame, breaking inside, call me, with a little help from my friends(a live cover), I’ll follow you, through the ghost, for my sake, asking for it, how did you love, black Cadillac, get up, and monsters. Then there’s the Smith and Myers acoustic stuff, in the air tonight, blue on black, someone like you, nothing else matters, and wanted dead or alive. And last Brent Smith(the singer) does a song called not strong enough with a band called apocalyptica that is amazing!

But they have 6 albums that have all been successful beginning from their debut album, and the Smith and Myers stuff is the lead singer and lead guitarist doing acoustic covers together and they’re about to do a second Smith and Myers album Because the first was so successful!

You should slip down the Smith and Meyers wormhole. They are the lead singer and guitar player of Shinedown doing acoustic sets and covers. They do Someone Like You by Adele. Phenomenal! Probably my favorite cover of theirs.

I like the original but I LOVE this version because I think Shinedown certainly did this song justice.. Brent Smith can really belt this song out 🤘🤘🤘 I love Shinedown; Shinedown is AMAZING !! 8:00; did you notice the picture the little girl is holding ?!?! To my understanding, that's an original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I'm just not sure which one it is..

I love Shinedown ❤️I’m going to go see them in April for the first time I absolutely can’t wait I’m 65 years old and my daughter is taking me. ♥️ they have so many good songs most have really good messages. SAVE ME, SOUND OF MADNESS, CUT THE CORD, I’ll FOLLOW YOU alternative version. Their last album Attention attention is a concept album 3 videos from that is MONSTERS, DEVIL, GET UP Piano version. This is not a new band, they have had a lot of great songs. Brett Smith is a great singer. ( They were ask to do this cover by Ronnie Vandanze’s widow. ( I probably spelled his name wrong) They are all from the same town in Florida. The guitarist married Ronnie’s daughter. In the video, the little girl is holding a pic of Ronnie that’s his granddaughter. This cover was very emotional because of their connection with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Do more Shinedown soon, they are very underrated. 🔥🔥

Yeah..I may have gotten a little excited. The original is probably better. But I think I like the lead singer's voice better in Shinedown.
