Haha that's awesome! I can remember imitating the attack animations while waiting for the bus for school. I just couldn't wait to get home and play it more. Final Fantasy Tactics is high up there for me when it comes to srpgs, but the sheer cool factor of this game is unrivaled in my opinion.

@@Jerupitus I just picked up FF tactics on my phone - I don’t usually do any mobile gaming at all, but I figured if I’m ever stuck anywhere with just a phone and no desktop, I’ve got a time burner.

Tactics is great no matter how you play it!

There's always mods for SF1 and 2 to scratch that itch.

If you never played Shining Force CD give it a go. Emulating should do it. It‘s not the best of the series (the games are Game Gear remakes after all), but it‘s "new" stuff. I played the original japanese Game Gear versions back in the day and never understood anything, but i loved these games so much.

It's not your fault that some of the old games are better than the new stuff. Play whatever you like! I've played Shining Force 1, and Shining Force CD, so many times... I've even played through the Game Gear ones (which CD basically is....) including the Japan only one. Somehow though, I've never made it very far through Shining Force 2, and I've never even played SF3. One of these days, one of these days...

I've really gotta play SF2, so many people have recommended it and I never really gave it a chance

@@Jerupitus just yesterday i finally made it to the climactic battle against darksol and the dark dragon but I promoted my characters very late because i thought there was merit to waiting till 20 and now they are super weak so i am just grinding out the darksol fight but certain characters like Guntz and Zylo and Max and Mae really pulled ahead of everybody else in damage potential of course once max got the chaos breaker that only helped him and of course musashi is unsurprisingly op because everywhere i looked ever since getting into the game musashi has been called one of if not the best and domingo is just domingo hes been in the party since he hatched in chapter 4 so hes level 30 almost lol taos single target blaze 4 also does a lot and i promoted alef late but im grinding the darksol map so hopefully the better lightning spells show up soon

You're correct that there is merit to waiting until 20 to promote, but it does involve a decent amount of grinding to pay off. Just don't forget to have Max take the final swing on Dark Dragon for a cool surprise!

@@PotatoNinjaMaster I'm going with the original Playstation version as it's how I remember the game, but it would be interesting to try out the sequel. I never played it as I didn't own many handhelds growing up (just a Gameboy). Sadly there's no new versions of Tactics coming out that I'm aware of, but honestly the original game is such a masterpiece that I'm okay with that.

It's interesting because you'd have to go out of your way to miss them, which you'd only do as part of a challenge run of some kind. There are lots of fun ways to increase the difficulty of the game, like knights only, bare minimum party, and permadeath. So while it might seem odd that characters that are part of the plot can be skipped, I think having the option to do so adds to the replayability, which is one more thing that makes this game great

Sorry to hear that friend! I made this video because of exactly that sort of thing happening to me. It's a feel-bad to be sure, but if it's any consolation you typically wouldn't use those characters for the endgame because you'll end up with better options, despite them having some unique characteristics.

@@Jerupitus i used them both quite a bit as arthur gets magic and domingo is a flying mage that's very fast and quite powerful at higher lvl.

@@lurice0 There isn't any way to know beforehand where they are. There aren't any clues anywhere in the game as to their locations, unless you happen to stop facing the particular square, and you happen to notice the search prompt appeared. Sorry that happened to you, I know missing stuff in this game is a major feel-bad, which is why I made this video.

I think that's a totally reasonable thing to include. My idea here was to put together everything you can miss through progress. If you've got Jogurt, you can get the Jogurt Ring any time, but you're right, it definitely could've been included. Maybe I'll give it its own video!

I can't say for sure because I don't know where exactly in the game you are, but if you've left the second instance of Pao, unfortunately you can't go back

That's absolutely true, you really know your stuff! I particularly enjoy when Hans and Tao still talk to you in the first battle even if you skip them.

I don't think it's fair to exclude Luke Ken Tao and Hans since you can't skip them without cheating (and with that logic, everyone is skippable). Also, I assume you meant Mae and not May since they are different characters. Lastly, you missed Max, he's also mandatory :)

If I'm not mistaken you can still retreat from the fight after the earthquake and get them! You just have to walk on top of the house on the far right.

@@itzmejose29 I'm not 100% sure since I haven't tested it myself, but I've definitely read people claim that you only need to check the top left of the priest's house once you get to Pao and he'll still be there. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you!

@@Jerupitus question wasn't for me but I say 1. 1 had a better story and I liked most of the characters but 2 had improved mechanics better soundtrack and was a lengthier game.

That probably would have made sense to do, but those aren't missable as long as you kill the monster holding it. Even if your inventory was full and you didn't receive it, the item can still be found in the Deals section of the shops.

I need grammar

The only secret items that do anything are the Sugoi Mizugi and the Kitui Huku. You give those to Tao and Anri, respectively, and it will change their combat sprite. The rest, sadly, don't do anything other than look cool. Despite the second Moon Stone being totally inexplicable, the secret items feel like an unfinished idea to me. It's possible they just ran out of development time, but that's only a theory.

@@Jerupitus There's a GBA remake of this game that explores content that was planned for the game but was scrapped due to time constraint/technical limitations. It comes highly recommended.

Ah man, Domingo becomes a beast, though, if you use him as a mage.

He's too far behind the others and dies one hit. Already have Tao and Anri so I don't even bother with him. I bet you defend that useless Jogurt too.

@@bladestar2322 That’s crazy, everyone knows Domingo is one of the best. He levels quickly, his defense is fine, and his range is awesome.

@@ChokeslamToHell Well, I'm crazy then. I've been playing Shining Force for 25 years and I have tried him a few times and decided he's just not worth it. Only reason I even take him is to load him like a packhorse with the useless items. I don't even know why I bother with those except the girls outfits. And those are basically useless too. The game is very Centaur heavy, I end up with 3 even at the end. Arthur and 2 others.

The cursed items can (and should!) be used like any other equipment, you just have to use the Friar to unequip them.

@@johnlewisbrooks The Devil Lance is probably the worst cursed weapon because it prevents you from switching to a ranged lance when the situation calls for it, but it's still very good. It's true that you will sometimes lose an attack but the damage potential is worth the tradeoff in my opinion.

Hes great i dont care what tier lists say. When do you first promote him? I felt he didnt bounce back fast after first early promotion.

@@barryt6377 As a kid I was too impatient and just promoted him at 10. He does seem to fall off a bit offensively after promotion. So I'm gonna try waiting until maybe 12-15 now that I have save states to get actual good stats, especially since he can level up consistently with healing, unlike other fighters, which is unique. His vary the most of all characters from what I've seen. He can either get nothing at all, 1 MP, a little defense, attack, or a jackpot of like 3 attack and 2 defense in one level. I'm at the circus thing right now and he has the highest attack of any character at 26. He can get pretty good speed and defense too. Have him at 13 defense and 12 speed right now. I gave all the power potions to the hero or Gong would be close to 30 atk right now. Beastly. The problem is this is right before other characters get a weapon upgrade, so I'm not sure how long that'll hold up. I never get a level that doesn't have atk for him if I can help it, to make up the difference of being unarmed. I think it'd be kinda fun to do a challenge run with just him and the main character and powerlevel him with heals until he can man mode fights while keeping the hero alive. Okay, that was longer than I meant it to be.

@@GruppeSechs It totally would be fun to have him run as #1 Welcome to the Gong show. Guys chopping wood at the beginning doing massive bicep gains. He looks cool when hes promoted, although be it kills his stats.(agility,speed). I started a second playthrough today as him in hopes to bring him to end game. Why i ever kicked him out of my party , i brought shame to my family. Gong doesn't need no weapons hes amazing!

This is true, but requires an exploit to trigger "missing" them. For the purposes of a video like this, it doesn't seem necessary to include their joins as they occur by playing the game normally.

That's a fact, and he can even use some spells!

And, to add to his spellcaster, I give him, but do not equip, the 2 cursed rings, which gives him a better Blaze and Bolt. I just make sure not to use them after they crack and repair them.

Without knowing your party configuration, the best advice I can give is to make sure you're using your spellcasting weapons and rings effectively, and make sure your formation sticks together. Overextending can get you into trouble fast, particularly against endgame monsters. Also, make sure you've got plenty of healing seeds on each of your characters. The good news is you keep your experience and levels from the fight if you find yourself in a losing position and cast Egress, so you can't actually lose unless you give up. Just keep trying, you'll get there! He only joins if you have him give you the demonstration, and searching the engine is the only way I'm aware of that triggers that scene.

@@Jerupitus i heard otherwise by two guides, they are saying he's great if you train and promote him.

That's true, but it's also true of the entire cast. It really depends on the goal of your playthrough and if you don't mind replaying battles to grind. I dislike leveling healers due to their poor movement and the lack of experience you get from casting healing spells, but they certainly can become very powerful if you invest in them.

@@darklordyianni4463 Oh I completely understand; in fact I find grinding to be a relaxing and enjoyable activity. I think you'll be interested in taking Arthur the distance because he becomes quite absurd if you do!

I think the saddest one is the Teppou. It seems like it should be an actual weapon, and a gun wielding Kokichi would have been so cool!

@@Jerupitus I actually don't know what the intended purpose of those items are. If you have a source, that'd be awesome. That said, Teppou I would have thought be a Lyle outfit.

@@123luff No one knows their intended purpose, I'm only speculating of course. To me it looks like a pump action shotgun with shells, which would make a cool weapon for a ranged attacker, but it being an alternate costume is a really interesting idea I hadn't considered.
