For everyone unaware, Shinji didn't originally use his bankai in the Manga. We only learned what it was in a book that came out covering the events after the Manga ended. So they added this in for a bit of fun. As for what it does, It changes your perception of friends and enemies within a specific radius around him. So he can use it to pull a win out even if it's just him vs like 1000 to make them all kill each other. The downside is it also affects anyone on his side (like other soul reapers). So he has to be careful when/where he uses it. Lore dump done, I LOVE the animation of Shinji using his Shikai vs Bambieta.

Since some people dont know about Shiji's bankai, like some of the reactors even though he explained it after, his bankai make his or the enemies allies, turn into enemies against each other. He cannot use it near allies as it would mean turning them against each other, even toward him. The "flower" that surrounded him keeps him safe not from just the enemies' but the affect of his bankai. (Edit) I forgot to mention that he deactivates it before meeting Bambietta Fun fact: His bankai is weaker than his shikai as it is inverted. What do you think of this fact?

His bankai IS NOT weaker than his shikai ! The power to control minds is stronger than the power to control senses ! However his shikai is better for 1on1 while his bankai is better for 1vs100!

His Shikai is restricted to 1v1, but his bankai can affect thousands. It's implied here that, much like other Zanpakutou, his Shikai can be stacked with his Bankai. He taunts Bambie to call for back up while under his Shikai... Basically, he wanted the girls to come assist Bambie, so he could then use his Bankai. They probably wouldn't be affected because stronger opponents can resist it... but I think IF (this is my interpretation), again IF he traps his enemy with his Shikai, then his Bankai would affect them but the thing is, it would be useless in 1v1 because he'd be sealed and his enemies wouldn't even try to attack him so the Bankai would be useless in 1v1 situations. However, if he could meet the conditions of both Shikai and Bankai on Bambie, then she would end up fighting her friends while he just chills... and whoever is left after the battle would be too weak to resist. It's like Ichibei's Bankai. It's not very useful on its own in a 1v1 but, if he uses his Shikai first, then his Bankai becomes super broken. I can't even begin to imagine what Aizen's bankai would look like... I bet it's also "weak" on its own as well, which is why he only ever uses his Shikai... whatever conditions it requires to become OP, would be in line with his cunning nature. It's probably what he used on Hinamori tbh (we think it's Shikai, but that level of control was different!)

It was a really old fact that I heard many others said a while ago when "Can't Fear Your Own World" came out. So you are right it's only good in certain circumstances. Edit: In Bleach Brave Souls, there are versions of characters that have a thing called Beyond Bankai where it takes their Bankai to a new level, and Aizen's is him what looks like him controlling reality. Although it's most likely what he would look like if he was completely fused with the hogyoku.

It's not "weaker", it just that this bankai is best used on mobs while his Shikai is best used in 1v1 duels, making his Shikai more reliable due to Bleach being almost exclusively 1v1 fights. His Bankai is so powerful it had to be banned.

Super outdated at this point but just as an fyi 1. The bankai is supposed to be used on fodder. Shinji even says his bankai is for minnows and his shikai for stronger foes in CFYOW. Also why sakanade is used on Bambi. 2. As for explaining it, it's excusable here because Bambi has no idea wtf he's saying after Sakanade was active. Shinji was just unlucky he fighting Bambi with the perfect counter xD
