A review of one of my favourite games growing up. The PlayStation 2 gem, Shinobi. A hack and slash platformer that's tough to beat and a classic on the system!

Holy crap someone is actually talking about PS2 Shinobi. This was one of the best action games ever and a most for fans of hack and slash. Super skillful and precise combat.

I`m 45 now and will allways remember how this game kicked my ass back then. I would love to play it now on modern machines as remaster or remake. First time here. Great review.

It’s great to see that this game is getting a bit more recognition, I still remember when I was about 8 years old and my dad bought me this game from a garage sale, it’s become my personal favorite ps2 game of all time since then and throughout all of my childhood it was a very slept on game so much so that none of my friends or anyone I knew had ever seen or even heard of the game. While it was a difficult game it still shaped my childhood and was sort of the precursor for my love of the dark souls series since it has a somewhat similar play style in my opinion. I’m just glad that this game is getting the love it deserves. Great review.

I loved this game growing up, remember seeing it got bad reviews on it and it made me mad cuz I thought and still think this game is great. The final boss is tough to beat but is so rewarding when you finally do. Great video thanks

Ever since I got my Steam Retroarch to emulate PS2 I discovered so many great games I've missed out on ; The second I popped in Shinobi and that first level retrowave ost kicked in - I knew I've hit gold and went looking for other Shinobi fans, Thank you for this great review and being able to see beauty in flawed games !

I remember when I got this game as a kid. I woke up and this game was on top of my TV. It was a gift from my mom's boyfriend. I was confused on what to do and over the years of playing, it grew on me. Then when I saw that it was playable on ps3, I nearly scream of excitement! This game will always be my #1 Ninja Game and I hope we can play it again in the future 😢

That last battle does take some finesse. For those paper guys I don't try to direct the attack. I remember taking my hand off of the directional stick while attacking them and Hotsuma would automatically find the sweet spot. Moritsune was twice as powerful, but Akujike drained twice as fast. You could plow right through the game if you were good enough. Joe had the weakest sword, but it wasn't Akujike. It was so satisfying to be able to stand in one spot for an hour. He also had infinite shurikens that did damage rather than stun, and he could build tate too. That is STILL one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played. I beat it with all 3 characters for the satisfaction.

I remember I was like 5 when I first played this on my cousins ps2 in Mexico. It was like nothing else I’ve played before cause it felt so surreal. 16 years later at 21 i’ve bought this game 3 times since then. Its that great.

Thanks to the floorless levels and that final boss fight this game is SEARED into my memories. I do remember enjoying the soundtrack being DOPE af. Also the graphics for the time were amazing. It took me longer to beat the boss than the rest of the game...

The best line ever in a game: "Theoboroaredead. Youarealeaderofnothing." And yes, that is not a typo. That's how it sounded. Ageha, you're a legend that has been seared into my 14 year old brain that I couldn't forget some 20 years from then.

I got this game when I was younger cuz I wanted a ninja game, and at first I didn't like it because of how akujiki drains your soul making you speed through the levels. But it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely a keeper if your thinking of getting it.

This game is very important to me as I have fond memories bonding with a childhood friend over it, but we never got past the fifth boss fight together. I remember I got to the burning village boss, but I never finished this game, maybe one day. Definitely one of the best games of the PS2 with one of my favorite soundtracks.

This game is great, as for the final boss, when hes on the ground you can kick him to open his defense and then stab his back. The hitbox for the floating talisman, is hard to explain but, its like their hitbox is "arround" then, like they have a blind spot in the center of their hitbox if that makes sense.

I know this videos old but I just got around to beating the game after 15 years of putting it off. Good work on the video One thing that was missed was the game has a "backstab bonus" mechanic where the damage you do is double id you hit the enemy character from behind. This works mostly on humanoid bosses, as hitting things like the giant spider from behind would probably be hard. The backstab bonus is necessary to one shot hiroko from a full chain

lol I didn't know that! That's pretty cool and yeah it would be pretty much impossible on the spider boss haha!

Yeah. I loved this game, still do. Don't know why it has not been remade for later consoles. Game developers need to understand that us older (55+) gamers really enjoy the older games but would love play and see them updated.

I never owned this game myself, but I remember getting a demo disc as a kid when my parents bought me a PS2. On that disc were four games I played more than any other - Jak 2, Ratchet and Clank 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and Shinobi. And Shinobi got more playtime than the other three demos out of me. All it was was the village stage, think that would be stage 2 based on your footage, but I went through that same level religiously, always trying to get further and finally, finally finish that one level. I had too many demo discs, that one for the PS2, one for the PS1, and multiple PC and Xbox 360 discs, and no game got as much play time out of me on any of them than Shinobi. Wish I could've found a copy when I was younger, but that's what emulation's for nowadays. Still wish I had that physical disc, though.

60fps was actually fairly standard on the PS2, but that's FIELDS per second, not frames, since this and most other games run interlaced. Performance standards on console took a dive during the PS3 era that we're only just bouncing back from. Love this game~!

I've always loved ninjas and ninja games, but this game has a special place in my heart! 😍 As a kid I played it so much that I became a beast at it, and since there was no Spotify or KZfaq, to listen to the songs, I would go against Kongou at stage 5-A and just toy with him so I could listen to Waiting Place 😍 Also: Solid video and a solid review! Thank you! ❤ What rating would you give this game honestly?

I always had a soft spot for Shinobi. The first game I can remember playin' on an arcade cabinet was Ninja Gaiden III, and the first game I remember playin' on the Master System was Shinobi. When they went 3d, I was the kid who everyone laughed at for preferring Shinobi to Ninja Gaiden in the new iterations. Revengeance made people go back and play them again, and opinions are more balanced nowadays. Still love them all....except the recent Steam releases, of course. Great vid mate. Maybe I'll track the PS2 Shinobis down again. Never knew what the final unlock was, and that EX stage looks like a great long term goal!

Also too...kicking Hiruko before you slash him is how you land that Tate hit a lil easier. Trust me. Dash around back, kick and slice. No matter where he’s at...he can’t block that and the kick doesn’t count against his damage so you’ll get full points for it.

This game can be great. Sometimes it's absolute bullshit. One thing I will always remember is that water is instakill. One dip and you have to play the entire level from the very beginning. No matter how far you are. And the weird thing is that lava isn't instakill. It hurts you, but it doesn't kill you instantly
