About the Episode: Enjoy modern pop and roots music from Akron’s Dan Auerbach and Austin’s Shinyribs. Auerbach puts the Black Keys on hold to showcase his second solo album Waiting On a Song. Fronted by Kevin Russell of the Gourds, Shinyribs whips up Texas country soul from its new LP I Got Your Medicine.
About Austin City Limits: Austin City Limits (ACL) offers viewers unparalleled access to featured acts in an intimate setting that provides a platform for artists to deliver inspired, memorable, full-length performances. The program is taped live before a concert audience from The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL is the longest-running music series in American television history and remains the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts. I would never want to follow them onstage. I caught them on PBS several months ago, and was about to change the channel, but Kevin Russell's charisma just locked me in and I couldn't look away. His dancing, voice, guitar playing and eccentricities are spellbinding. The whole group is excellent, and who can say no to a band with backup singers called The Riblets?

Discovered Shinyribs on my Spotify .... they sounded like something that would be featured on the GREATEST show that's ever graced PBS - ACL and so now I am watching talent in a cape. Have a feeling I'm going to be watching this band for a long time. Hope everyone enjoys East Texas Rust as much as I'm lovin' it.

Me too Jason! I had just about given up on today's artists. Then I sat down one random Saturday night, began channel surfing, and.....WOW! I'll admit it was the cape that got my attention at first. But then, Whoooa!...WHAT A GROOVE!

Saw these guys a week ago in Ridgeway CO. They blew my doors off. So much power in the music you had to dance. And dance we did..in the pouring rain. What a blast! TOO much! I love you Alice.

I've been fortunate to see this group perform three times. I've also spoken to Kevin Russell each time, and what a genuine guy he is. Ditto for the rest of the band members. They are a very enjoyable live show, so don't miss an opportunity to see them.

Saw them a few weeks ago here in New Orleans at the Bayou Boogaloo festival. I had never heard of them before, but damn they put on a hell of a set. Loved it. Love Texas music. Lived in south Texas for about thirteen years. Love that barbecue, too.

saw Shiny performing live in Threadgills (old Armadillo Headquarters !) during Austin's SXSW in 2014 and as they say in Texas: "they blew my ass away". Great sound.

Saw them 3 weeks ago at Ridgeway CO. The music was very powerful, the band tight, the girls...out of sight. Amazing show!

They played the Kerrville Folk Festival before Covid and I had to leave the Festival before their night. This year I will be back to Kerrville for the first time since Covid hit and I will not miss Shinyribs!!!

This band is pretty cool, tell the pianist I said hi. I got to meet the guy on the plane to Austin and saw the girls at the airport. P.s. he deserves better experience on the plane, he doesn't like the turbulence and it make him nervous. I subscribed by the way. Keep up the good work guys!! -Alyssa

That's great, cheers! And, yeah, it makes sense that this is the first you are hearing about us. We are a startup here in Austin that just finished our first Kickstarter campaign in October. We were looking to snap some pics for KS at Blues on the Green, our free summer music series in town in Zilker Park, when we approached the Shiny team about wearing the Firefly for the show and Kevin's response was "hell yeah!" Apparently, the ACL folks noticed that! We're very grateful to both teams for having us be part of this taping.
